Which actually makes me think what's the use of the app if its limited by an NFT collection? Surly it can't reach a mass audience then? Or am I missing something?

TL;DR: The pricing is a function of the networks we build.
TL;GPT: When someone buys an NFT they are actually buying a stake in the creator's network, rather than the item itself. The value of an NFT is largely based on the size and strength of the network, rather than the intrinsic value of the item being represented. The value of NFTs can vary significantly depending on the platform they are being sold on and the size of the creator's network on that platform. I give the example of Grams' photos selling for different amounts on different platforms and suggest that if a well-known creator like Beeple were to join a smaller platform (Lens) their work would sell for a higher price.

I might upset some people with this one so I'll apologize in advance and say the following is how I think about things, all are free to think otherwise. I am truly not looking to start a fight. I'm just one person who has studied under who I consider to be the greatest analysts of the past 2 decades and I clearly have a non-consensus view of NFTs because of that. In the same way it might hurt one's brain a little to hear me say "Airbnb and Uber sell the same exact product" (they do, it's "trust") the following is based on analysis of actual incentives and flow of information:
Base level assumptions and understanding:
-The internet contains packets of communications (everything aural/visual can be represented by a 1 or 0)
-Blockchains contain packets of everything else (any token can represent anything).
-Blockchains sell block space.
-The price of a required native token like BTC or ETH is the price people are willing to pay to have their data written in the block space.
I think one of the difficult things with NFTs is the concepts of ownership vs stake in a network. What I mean by this is I see people take the "ownership" of a jpeg too literally, in my opinion. When someone buys one of my photos they don't actually buy the photo. It sure -feels- like they do but that's a function of our tools, they're actually buying a stake in my network. The data being exchanged is a token, not a jpeg.
We use packets of communication to represent the token.
The token can represent anything, including packets of communication.
The photo is literally packets of 1s and 0s, infinitely replicated and transmitted. The photo is used to visually represent the token. You can see the token in Etherscan, it doesn't look like the photo. The token is unique and finite. The list of token owners is the list of network members/network owners.
Regarding art, the digital and physical worlds are actually similar but might be hard to see at first. Let's imagine last century you bought a Picasso 1/1 and we'll examine where the value is placed:
The distribution for a 1/1 piece is almost zero--getting to see it is valuable.
Ownership puts you on the "list" of Picasso owners--you become a participant of Picasso's network.
Picasso's network is both hard to aggregate and to coalesce--most of the value is added by his actions and connections.
With blockchains the value prop is clearly in favor of network ownership. Let's imagine you bought a Beeple 1/1 and we'll examine where the value is placed:
The distribution for a 1/1 piece is infinite--getting to see it is not valuable.
Ownership puts you on the "list" of Beeple owners--you become a participant of Beeple's network.
Beeple's network is both easy to aggregate and to coalesce--the amount of value Beeple adds personally (as a % relative to the entire network) diminishes as the network grows.
I realize that's a wall of text but it's all in service of this:
Tez and Sol art is cheap (I've got a LOT of Tez art).
My photos on Lens are currently sometimes selling for null.
Yours are selling for more.
Yours on other platforms are selling for much more.
If Beeple joined Lens today his work would sell for a lot of money.
The reason is the same in each case, it's all relative to the networks we've built. The photographers who sell a genesis piece for 5 ETH "immediately" do so because they've already spent years building a network around them. Then they go on Rug Radio and hype an auction with 10 influencers speaking to 800 listeners. I'm starting from zero on Lens. I don't feel bad about selling some of my best photos for null, I think of it as a phenomenal opportunity to show total strangers how much value I'll give back to them for supporting me. Just like Beeple raffled $150k pieces for null.
In my opinion you're doing just fine with scarcity on here, it's all about how you wish to tier your network. No need to compromise but also, there's no one here yet and we just have to wait. I buy your photos because I want to support you on your journey, and oh by the way I get a cool photo as a receipt. The tokengated Shinjuku series you're doing right now is so great, and even if the photos were shit (they're not, everyone should get in on this!) I'd still feel great about supporting you. There are a lot of assholes whose photos I love but refuse to buy. As a photographer you're undervalued here, for sure. But it's a function of your Lens network. It's in closed beta, there's essentially "no one" here (no offense Stani). You're totally right that when it opens up so will the value of your network(s). Until then man just keep going, you're phenomenal and fun to watch 👍
