- 📚 TODAY IN DIGITAL ART HISTORY 📖
🌐 Electronic Cafe '84 launched during the LA Olympics, transforming cafes in diverse LA neighborhoods into nodes of a digital network.
🖥️ Networked computer terminals and audiovisual tools were set up at MOCA and eateries like The Gumbo House, Ana Maria Restaurant, The 8th Street Restaurant, and Gunter’s Cafe.
🌍 These spaces allowed individuals to connect and collaborate, sharing text, images, and videos, fostering a sense of community.
🎨 Drawing from the history of cafés as hubs of community and revolution, Electronic Cafe '84 empowered people to shape the emerging networked world.
📡 Co-founders Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz envisioned a world where telecommunications facilitated creative and cultural exchanges.
🖋️ "We must create at the same scale as we can destroy." – Electronic Cafe Manifesto, 1984.
💬 The project highlighted the potential of digital networks for social and cultural empowerment, a vision that resonates today.
