- Great piece in *The New Yorker* on the trend of DIY private clubs. In the past, private clubs were the exclusive based on wealth but today, theres a new generation of DIY grassroots private clubs forming to provide an IRL places for people from different backgrounds and industries to connect over curated social experiences.
I couldn't help but turn my mind to Lens when reading it....
As a social layer, Lens has the potential to power a wide range of digital communities that can be just as stimulating. We're already seeing the formation of micro-communities within the Lens ecosystem, where people who may never have crossed paths are connecting over shared interests.
- This comment left here by @punkess.lens today is an amazing example of that: https://lenster.xyz/posts/0x0f85-0x16a1
- "Music Is Social" - IYKYK is another one
Looking back at the magic of old-school Twitter, what drew many of us in was the openness and ability to discover and connect with people from completely different backgrounds. However, the challenge was often taking those connections to the next level, into deeper smaller space curated experiences.
With Lens' ever-emerging front-ends providing more curation (e.g. @diversehq.lens launched today), digital community enabling tools (embedded governance in follower NFTs and publications), composability and ownership, we now have the ability to create meaningful connections throughout *the entire internet* on an open graph AND take them to more curated and defined experiences, fostering even deeper connections.
I am calling it *DIY Lens Clubs βοΈ*

- To have a Discord as a small piece of your cake is cool. Treating Discord as a sacred platform without which no project is legit is not.
- I'm interested in exploring a decentralized approach and building a community around different projects or specific topics like #travel or #L2s. However, I'm still not sure how to go about creating a group or community within Lens, and whether it's possible to do so without using my personal account as the main stage. Can you share more information on how this can be achieved, and what other options are available for interacting with our audience beyond likes, mirrors, comments, and collects? Don't get me wrong, I don't see Discord as a viable option to create a community around travel or L2's, but might be more convenient for projects to interact with their audience and have a much better organization structure with their Discord servers.
- couldnβt agree more
- This needed to be said and heard π
- At this stage I guess it's going to be a little bit hard, even Lensprotocol has a discordπ€·ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
- I was discussing this with @hascoin.lens and @ali.lens
- Someone had to say it. Discord is not web3
- I agree. I made a Discord server for #lenstopia, but really it's almost a ghost server. But anyway since all his access is token gated by nfts collected in Lens, it's super easy to migrate the same topic organization and hierarchy to a native Lens app... When "Lenscord"? π
- Agree. Can you reach same structure and privacy with Lens?
- Web3 project does not need to have a Discord server just because its a web3 project, in fact I think you could build a community within Lens and have a more decentralized approach that way
