- Lens V2 launching tomorrow, which is a huge upgrade in capabilities and capacity over V1!
The biggest change IMO: Smart Posts. You can now add arbitrary “open actions” to publications, which are basically remote calls made to smart contracts on any EVM chain. Collecting is an example of an Open Action in V2. You can imagine things like minting on Zora or OpenSea directly from within a Lens post.
Also no more whitelisting needed for third party modules as V2 is open. And with Profile Manager you can allow any address to take action on your part, making using cold wallets possible.
Lens was already the most powerful social protocol in web3 and V2 takes it up another level.

**Web3Nomad: Algorithms**
**1. Modified Behavior**
Algorithms govern our digital reality.
Everyone is embedded in them regardles of what service you use. Even if you are a spammer polluting peoples inboxes and feeds, you have been rewarded or punished by the algorithms.
Why did we create them?
We believe it was to surface better content.
My question after many years of working with and seeing all the different content types to be seen and all of the spammers' games and tricks is, at what cost?
"There are no solutions, there are only trade-offs". - Thomas Sowell
One thing that people missed early on about implementing algorithms was the behavioral change that would cascade on society.
The social media and video app algos turned creators from all different types of niches, from all over the world, who were doing their own thing, and flattened them and standardized them to where no matter what you were making, the style was the same.
Same editing types, same thumbnails designs, same intros and outros, full of free ads in the form of social media logos. Creators went from creating for themselves to creating for the algos. Creating for themselves was not an option that would compete. People can still create what they want really, but you have to behave a certain way for the algo to pick it up. Algos didn't just change our content, they chande us. And they reward and punish all the behavior you see online.
**2. "Most Of The Internet Is Hidden"**
This is a sentence that has spun in my mind for years the more I worked with content. Something that my peers and supervisors also missed.
We say that algorithms are used to surface content, but it's quite the opposite. It is used to hide most of the content that ever gets published. And your content will never see the light of day unless you meet the standards of the people who design the algos.
Do a google search and the videos that appear at the top are from YouTube. This is by design. Your cool video on Joystream on the same topic will be on page 50 of those results. When was the last time you went past the first page of a google search? Everything is hidden.
Obviously, people don't have the time nor the patience to comb through every piece of content that gets uploaded to find something they want to watch and some sort of algo IS required to serve people better content. But who decides on the specs that algorithm? This is a question to be raised.
Now a days people are more aware of their recommendation algorithms and are able to "hack" them so that it throws them into a new rabbit hole of their choice. And in that sense you may be able to see content that you would have never seen had you not gone down that specific rabbit hole. But it's still hiding most of the content.
You like one user's video and it will give you 10-50 vids of that user before it shows you something else or you start disliking that user or go into a different rabbithole or niche. Those are all missed opportunities for other content to surface. Other creators to be discovered. Other new ideas to be spread. The trade-off of liking something on social media is seeing less of other things.
**3. Decentralize The Algos**
Returning to the question of: who decides what the algo does for you?
Some people that have put some thought into this believe that it should be you. Your social media profile should have an algo section full of toggles and properties that you, the user, should be able to control. Turn on and off, or simply put it on auto and let the app do it for you if you so choose.
As a user, getting granular on what the algo does for you is something that should be available. Being able to tell the algo " Don't show me more than 2 vids of the same user per day" is something that you as a user should be able to control. "Don't show me content from people I don't follow" or viceversa "Show me mostly content from people I don't follow". These should all be options for the users, not a small team of people in a room somehwere building an algo based on their preferences.
Mute buttons, block content types, exclude or include categories, frequency, max number posts you'd like to see in a day if you want to control for your content diet, exclude content with paid advertising, likes don't affect my algo, prioritize new uploads, prioritize favorites, create a hierarchy of prioritizations, etc. These are all toggles or levers that you should be able to turn on and off at your own will. You design your algo.
That way, people don't have to create to "hack" any specific algorithm. They can go back to creating for themselves and let people really choose what content they engage with.
**4. Baby Steps**
It is understood that building something like this would be very complexe. I'm non-technical so I can't even think about how something like this can be accomplished. Now that we have all these new AI models it may not even be necessary, I don't know.
Baby steps. Start with just a few toggles available for the users. Simple stuff that users can view or hide and slowly roll out more granularity.
Then maybe, we can unhide some of the safe and consumable parts of the internet that have been punished by the centralized algos.
Keep in mind that there are no solutions, only trade-offs. This will have it's own set of problems and behavior changes that cannot be predicted.
Thank you for reading 🙏❤️

**Web3Nomad: Attention**
If we can agree that life is where your attention is, at any given moment, and that it is how you build memory, then we can say that it is true that you should not fight existing systems.
You should build new systems that make the existing ones obsolete as expressed by Buckminster Fuller
We can also say that you should be the change you want to see in the world as put by Gandhi.
If you're attention is on fighting old systems. Do not expect an upgrade. Instead expect a breakdown with a high risk of not recovering. One full of nihilism and loss of hope in anything human.
If your attention is on building alternatives to the failing systems, failing communities, failing technologies, failing values, etc, then we can expect an upgrade. One full of hope and confidence on the capabilities of humans.
If we focus on fighting failing systems, the universe often reveals itself to us as a place full of obstacles. Everything is rigged. Why bother. There is no hope.
Rather, if we focused on building alternatives, the universe might be experienced as a place filled with tools with solutions. A desire to put our capabilities to their best use.
Using our attention as the device that is warning against the old, causes negative stress, depression, fear, doubt, isolation, addiction, and even physical illness on the population.
Intentionally having our attention be a catalyst for the alternatives, inspires positive stress, a wanting to help feeling, a sense of sacrifice, to want to dare to dream, to act, to be brave, voluntarily assuming of the task at hand, full of creativity, compassion and love.
The "it's not about me" feeling.
Life is where our attention is at any given moment.
Let's use it, NOT to fight old systems that rob us of it and undermind it.
Let's instead, build systems that cherish it and recognize it for the tool that it is and how it shapes our reality.
Thank you for reading 🙏♥

For my first drop on Lens, I wanted to provide something uplifting with optimistic and an organic vibe.
Sentiments across the ecosystem the past few weeks pertaining to sustainability, purpose and overall vibe has seemed pretty low from an observational point of view. A by product of having access to so many rapid thoughts daily. What some might call bear market blues, I'd call proper realignment on expectations and intentions. Many pivoted into releasing / collecting music on-chain due to the marketing of "Financial Freedom For Artists" which sounds like Utopia and I would love to see that happen and who knows, one day that might be a reality. I think the current reality of building micro communities mainly comprised of Artists in new ecosystem that has a very finite amount of Collectors who aren't Artists themselves or builders is going to be a bit turbulent when the entry and end goal is Financial Freedom. The ecosystem is still new and small compared to traditional ecosystems, but new artists enter daily at a pace faster than new collectors do. So building communities and culture with eyes on the prize without being realistic is eventually going to reach the reality check phase.
Everyone is a different stages of their Artistic journeys. Every Artist want's to feel valued and seen regardless what stage of that journey they are on.
I've been releasing music consistently on a large scale for 3 decades. Was reality checked and shafted by Major Labels multiple times since. Been through every shift and medium and never once was knocked off balance in terms of losing any momentum in my love and need to create and express daily. I purposely rebelled against DSP's since 2016 (something in hindsight I regret a bit, since everyone looks to streaming numbers to gauge an artist's worth these days) When I learned about smart contracts, there was no way I was making the same mistake. So in Feb 2021, I released my first MusicNFT on Rarible. Then paused and observed. I really resonated the idea of 1/1's and How Catalog Works viewed Music. So I patiently waited until I was finally onboarded end of March 2022. I utilized Catalog as a Forever Library for my back Catalog of Music. The Idea of being able to tie your backstory, credits or any info to the Music and that Data can never been separated is why I entered into the ecosystem. Financial Freedom never was the motivation, and I never mint a song with expectations of it being collected. The win for me personally, is having my legacy solidified on chain. Provenance. I'm realistic enough know, not everyone will approach releasing Art from purist point of view and It would be beyond amazing if All artists were guaranteed financial freedom from their hard work.
Over the years, I've seen many (more talented than myself) bright lights go dim and disappear because of expectations. The hardest thing to swallow about this scenario is that is robs the future of that artists music reaching the right people and deeply effecting their lives.
I've done my best to lead by example and take a less than popular or lucrative path and just mint music on chain, and let the resonance find its way to it. Repeating all the politicking, Promo and things I've been doing consistently for decades is not something I thought would follow into this new ecosystem. Pivoting into this ecosystem in general came at cost. Alot of respected music peers and fanbase look at web3 as a Scam, fad, or cash grab. Thankfully the beauty of music on chain, is .... everything is on chain. So anyone willing to take the time can see 90% of what I've earned on Catalog/Sound/Zora/Etc.. Never made it to fiat and instead, went directly back into the ecosystem supporting and collecting other artists who's music I resonated with. A Practice I've already being doing for years on Bandcamp.
Everyone has their own path, goals and expectations.
In a ecosystem built on music on chain, my hopes is the music and love for creating, documenting and collecting remains the top focus. Because we are all, together, collectively shaping Culture <3
Sincerely.
Dutch.

Today I have made an important decision in my life 📢
I quit my job today and going to focus full-time on maintaining the first-ever open-source frontend @lenster.lens 🌸 powered by @lensprotocol 🌿.
Building social media was my dream since 10th grade, I built more than 4 social media in public but all failed, Lenster is my 5th one and it’s going crazy ⚡️.
I believe building in public is key 🔑 to the success of a product.
We have a lot of items queued up in the roadmap, be excited about it 🕺
