- 🎥 DPOP is thrilled to be a contributing sponsor at IND/EX 2024 in Chicago, organized by Film Festival Alliance and Art House Convergence.. This important event brings together film festivals and independent exhibitors from around the world to advance the reach and sustainability of film communities everywhere. The DPOP team will be on the ground at the conference all week.
Amidst significant industry shifts, #IND_EX tackles the pressing challenge of conglomeration. With large companies merging, diversity in the media landscape suffers, leaving indie filmmakers and distributors striving to compete in a market dominated by giants.
Technological advancements bring both opportunities and challenges. At #IND_EX, we're diving into how these technologies are reshaping film finance, production, and distribution, and what it means for maintaining a competitive edge in an evolving landscape.
Don't miss @lens/dansickles and @lens/rohankymal presenting our latest project at the Chicago Cultural Center June 27th. This initiative showcases our concept for transforming the film distribution pipeline.
If you're here at IND/EX, or in Chicago, connect with us! Together with Art House Convergence and Film Festival Alliance, let’s explore how we can work together to build better into the future of independent media.

- 📚 TODAY IN DIGITAL ART HISTORY 📖
🌐 Electronic Cafe '84 launched during the LA Olympics, transforming cafes in diverse LA neighborhoods into nodes of a digital network.
🖥️ Networked computer terminals and audiovisual tools were set up at MOCA and eateries like The Gumbo House, Ana Maria Restaurant, The 8th Street Restaurant, and Gunter’s Cafe.
🌍 These spaces allowed individuals to connect and collaborate, sharing text, images, and videos, fostering a sense of community.
🎨 Drawing from the history of cafés as hubs of community and revolution, Electronic Cafe '84 empowered people to shape the emerging networked world.
📡 Co-founders Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz envisioned a world where telecommunications facilitated creative and cultural exchanges.
🖋️ "We must create at the same scale as we can destroy." – Electronic Cafe Manifesto, 1984.
💬 The project highlighted the potential of digital networks for social and cultural empowerment, a vision that resonates today.
