Drones + Water Balloons vs Wildfires 🔥 The XPrize Wildfire competition is bringing out some beautifully simple tech solutions to tackle a massive global problem. UMD's Team Crossfire is using autonomous drones to detect fires with AI, and dousing them by dropping water balloons timed for perfect mid-air explosions. Their live demonstration was a true engineering journey: Attempt 1: Splatted wide of the platform. (Wind is tough!) 💨 Attempt 2: Detonator malfunctioned due to the chilly October weather.
