I didn't get an answer to this, but I want to give my own answer. Organic search (Google) was overlooked. Everyone focused on a handful of airdrop hunters on X, and when the attention faded, everyone left. However, a user searching Google for "decentralized social media app" is much more likely to actually use a decentralized social media app than someone coming from X or other Web2 social media platforms. The direction we should be focusing on isn't bringing in more users, but bringing in the right users. Why is the number of visits Bluesky gets from Google in a month proof that it is successful while the others are unsuccessful?
