For a while, I’ve been thinking about algorithms and how much we depend on them just to be seen. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram claim to help us reach more people through “interest-based” recommendations, and in some ways they do. But even with all their sophistication, there are still so many incredible people (artists, thinkers, and creators) who remain invisible I understand that part of being online today means learning how to present and promote ourselves. It’s part of the game. But I keep wondering why visibility has to be such a game in the first place. Why does being seen depend so much on mastering an algorithm that only rewards certain kinds of behavior? The truth is, algorithms built around interests have made platforms feel less human. They know what we like, but not who we are. They connect content, not people. And while that’s efficient for engagement, it’s not great for community I’d love to see a system that brings back the “social” in social media, one that gives more people a real chance to be visible, not just those who already know how to play the system. A space where discovery feels more organic, where small creators can grow because their work resonates, not because they’ve decoded the latest posting pattern We need algorithms that expand curiosity, not just optimize for attention. Ones that reveal new voices instead of amplifying the same few. And this is not at all about rejecting technology. What I want to focus on more is how can we use it to serve human connection again🌹
