The European Space Agency (ESA) announced that an asteroid estimated to be between 750 and 1,650 meters wide will pass close to Earth on Saturday. The asteroid is expected to come within approximately 2.56 million kilometers of Earth on Saturday. This distance is more than six times the distance between Earth and the Moon. According to ESA, the asteroid will travel at a speed of around 9 kilometers per second.
