I’ve always been fascinated by Issey Miyake and I’ve always loved gazing at his work. When he passed away, I genuinely felt that a part of fashion’s soul went with him What has always drawn me to Miyake is how some of his designs feel almost digital, as if they existed beyond the physical world. They made me think of a time when you could wear anything you imagine, no matter how unconventional or impossible it might seem. To me, his work has always embodied the statement “Fashion is art” He blurred the boundaries between the two so gracefully that it felt like his garments were both sculptures and living experiences, something you felt more than just wore I curated four of my favorite pieces of his below to exemplify my thoughts. (The first one is an absolute favorite) The first three are from his iconic collaborations with Irving Penn (1980s-1990s), while the last one is part of his official archive from the same period🌹
