- I think you might be missing the whole point!
Ownership of digital content goes well beyond the act of simply having something for the sake of it. It’s about control, autonomy, and the freedom to use, share, and manage your content as you see fit.
These are not utilities, these are virtues.
While it’s true that the general public may not yet prioritize content ownership, its importance becomes more clear when considering these things. It’s about protecting your rights, privacy, and opportunities, and removing control from the service providers.
More of my response on what "ownership" means in this context: <https://hey.xyz/posts/0xd8-0x0158>
- Spot on. Ownership is pointless if that ownership doesn’t entitle you to something. No one really cares about owning their content, just what they can do with it.
The real and primary benefit of crypto/web3 is actually composability imo, and I strongly believe that’s what will bring mainstream adoption to web3, not ownership or decentralization. Composability of ethereum ecosystem is what I’m most bullish about and that’s the main thesis behind Buttrfly.
- partially agree. you say public don’t prioritize ownership but what i belive is that people is not even conscious about it, but thats logic because governments don’t want the people to know people can organize to get power, thus the government doesn’t even talk about it, the same way FANGs don’t talk about this ownership thing and how many money it gives in return

- I agree with this take. Ownership for its own sake is not the reason users collect, it is the utility/benefit as you say behind the collect: Investment potential: Wanting to own since the collectable holds value or might appreciate over time. Access to community: Gaining access to a community which has exclusive perks. Or more intangible utility like wanting to support a creator or having the bragging rights to own a digital piece. All examples of a collect having utility.
