Is it art if it's made by an AI? 🤔
Comments
- sure, it can be considered art imo. But, I do believe the amount of time and effort it takes to learn how to get a good looking output from AI doesn't even touch what it takes to really master a craft like music, art, whatever.
That being said, it seems like at the end of the day, the result seems to matter way more than the process to most.
- If the artist doesn't contribute anything from herself/himself, if only the AI product has emerged, I think it wouldn't be an art 😐
- very interesting responses here. imho it's not art, the same could be said for many 'mechanical' things even humans create.
Probably sounds a lil voodoo but I'll take my chances - Art is not created, Art 'happens' as a by-product of a human being getting dissolved in the act, so much so that they end up creating something even they don't understand. For when the art happened, they weren't there "creating" it, but instead witnessing it as it unfolded through them.
And that's why I think its solely a human phenomenon which I'm not sure an AI could replicate on its own.
That being said, one could def use AI, just like a brush, but they would be severely limiting themselves as the brush now as a mind of its own.
- Yes because art can be also done by nature, rainbow or fall leaves dropping certain way is art as well and whoever documents is also creating art as format. Currently AI art have composers but in the future can be without and I feel its still pretty much art. Art is what you subjectively see as art to yourself and can identify
- It may be or it may not be. Objects/creations are meaningful only after they are presented. But yes, it can contain artistic qualities related to composition, colors, dynamics, etc... But that alone does not define what is or is not art. Leaves swept off the ground and placed in a museum can be considered art by concept. First of all, what is valued as art has more to do with a socio-cultural discourse than with intrinsic qualities of the object. It's the same discussion there was about photography x painting, then about digital photography, then about digital painting, generative art etc etc...But I believe that the question "what is art" is something that has been the subject of numerous articles and books in philosophy, aesthetics, semiotics... it is an open field of thought 🙂
- Well, the thing about art is that it’s completely subjective. I think it’s up to you to decide if something is “art” or not, regardless how it’s created. Is there art in nature? Does it need to be evaluated and defined by humans to be considered art? I think art is all around us in many different forms. But on the other hand, an art historian, curator, or gallery owner might think much differently. If a piece is to be exhibited and sold on the market, they might have a more strict way to define and classify art work.
- Good question 👀 if it's made by an intelligent AI with an intent to make art, it is art i think, but AI hasn't developed to that extent yet. When an artist does some input and, using AI, creates a piece - it could be a form of art too.
- suppose it is, then:
- is the "artist" who "did" the art able to create more art once we turn off the tool?
suppose it is not, then:
- what happen with all the "art" we did before inventing art degrees?
etcétera...
- In that case, you have to look at it from the point of view of art. Whether it looks the way it should. I think it's a matter of taste.
- Art has no definition
- Depends how prompt is approached: words with heart and soul and inputing personal design (yes) vs. words not your own and knocking off other artists or using only chatgpt (meh). AI art favors writers, poets, word wizards; the ability to articulate emotion and transmit consciousness. I have experimented with chatgpt prompts but I prefer nerding out on my own stream of consciousness. The results are unpredictable and sometimes the synergy misses the mark and sometimes it is magic.
- I think that’s up to the person who’s looking at it
- absolutely
and also i think AI will hugely expand the scope of art🎇
- Why shouldn’t it be?
- does it matter?
- yes ,art is a thing
- Absolutely AI
- Is it art if it's made by the son of Dali'?
- 🤔 maybe we should first define what is art. Because I believe that atrur answer to that question would change depending on the context.
- It is art. Art can be curated from anything, could even occur naturally
- Can I use a tool to create art? like a paintbrush? If I do, can it be called art?
- If you think art is a for of expression, than I think it's not. But from a viewer perspective, if I can find beauty or a special meaning/feeling into it, then, for me, it would be.
- Sure, you shouldn't say whether they're art or not.
- Nice question,
Imo art isn't defined by who made it or what did they use to do it. But rather, what does it provoke or what do you feel when you see/have it.
- Art has no definition too
- Ai is not a panacea, and NFT, kindled from early art, could use AI for a new wave of market volatility
- what ?which art?
- I say depends
- not real
- I don't think so
- No, it isn't!
- yea, I think so
- simple answer: no
- Yes ! Why not? Is that the reason of having no soul?😂
- yeaaaah
- sure i am interesting bro
- i think still
- hmmm I never though about this question
- can not replace human
