- Here are my thoughts on the NFT market this year by using some data from the JPEG index. It's a bit of an experiment, but I want to see how much this index can be used as a barometer for the broader NFT market.

- I took a moment out of my trip last week to visit the Seattle NFT museum. The staff is friendly, the gallery is usually themed, and there is a bit of NFT history.
- Back from Microsoft Ignite. It was a smaller conference being hybrid so Seattle only saw about 3,000 attendees as opposed to the in-person-only 20,000+ people events of the pre-covid era.
One of the big takeaways is the positioning of metaverses. Microsoft turned up the heat by talking much more about AR and VR offerings than in previous years. Microsoft positioned three significant pillars of metaverses.
-Consumer
-Enterprise
-Industrial
As you can see, there is more of a clear division of use cases in this model where communities can focus their metaverse design on an appropriate set of technologies. Consumer technologies may use different low-cost hardware and software to present the environment to the end-user, while enterprise and industrial may have significantly more hardware driving a richer user experience.
What questions arise to me is will consumer metaverses focus on public blockchains while Enterprise and Industrial metaverses use centralized platforms to exchange assets. My bias is that many consumer platforms will have to use open, permissionless blockchains, but they don't necessarily need to.
Microsoft's metaverse and blockchain strategy are deliberate. They are not out to hype these new technologies too much unless there are real use cases they can be successful with their customers. The reality is that every major tech firm has its feet in Web3, but some hype it more than others. My next goal is to make a Web3 article where I talk about enterprises and both the opportunities and challenges they will experience with this form of digital transformation.
With 25 years of experience in IT, I hope I can help companies cross the chasm again and again with different technologies. Stay tuned for updates as I finish up yet another painfully long article.

- Interesting take on the Ethereum merge by checkonchain. The main worry is that the transition to proof of stake creates centralization risks that may hand over the influence of the blockchain to the American government. That is an oversimplification of the case but worth watching if you are concerned about Ethereum and network neutrality.

- The unity game engine is partnering with Microsoft Azure to host cloud backends for their games. I am still trying to predict what is happening here.
We have XBox hiring blockchain devs and product managers, then Azure was looking specifically for Ethereum and DevOps experienced resources. Just because NFTWorlds got kicked out of Minecraft doesn't mean that Microsoft is out of the crypto gaming world. But what exactly they are up to is hard to guess because it feels like they are in the early stages if senior product managers are being hired.
