- **How can DAOs help build sustainable music platforms that stay true to their founding principles?**
If you've been active in the music industry, especially the electronic music industry, you might've noticed that it is extremely difficult to build platforms that consistently place the music first and doesn't get swayed by monetary interest.
Even the most well-intentioned founders eventually are influenced by the pressures of money. This causes a lot of music platforms to eventually lose their founding identity as they embrace more commercial music for monetary reasons. Also, these platforms tend to not reward artists and content creators to the extent they deserve.
Through a DAO framework, communities can build organizations that stay true to their founding principles and are truly governed by the most passionate and dedicated contributors, whereby the community decides how any revenue generated in the organization is used to ensure the authenticity of the platform. Incentives can be aligned among everyone in the organization, and a positive feedback loop can be created where every single contribution made for that organization benefits everyone.
As someone who has been in the techno scene for over a decade, I've seen many techno platforms gradually lose their identity as they gravitate towards the route that makes the most money, while disregarding what the supporters that helped built the platform in the first place.
I believe DAOs are finally the way to build sustainable platforms that stay true to themselves and create even more powerful communities of music enthusiasts.
If you are interested to read more on my thoughts on this, I've written a long-form piece on the impact of the commercialisation of techno music and how Web3 can combat this: https://sirubi.substack.com/p/the-impact-of-commercialisation-on?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2
- Hey Lens folks!
Are you interested in electronic music, especially scenes like underground techno? Perhaps my recent write-up could interest you.
I've outlined some of the big issues I experienced in the scene over the past decade, with one of the biggest issues being the misconstrued incentives for artists. Producers & DJs are being rewarded for their marketing efforts, not for their art or performances.
I believe Web3 can help shift back those incentives through DAOs, to create sustainable ecosystems that reward producers for their music and also reward any other contributors in scenes and ecosystems for their efforts.
It's a long piece, but will be taking bits and pieces of it to share here on Lens over time 🙂
