- A pure and genuine soul rarely emerges from an easy or predictable life, and is rarely found as part of the crowd.
You’ll more often find them on the roads less traveled, in the places others ignore, at the times you least expect.
- “You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.”
—Henry David Thoreau
- Don’t rebel by destroying your future, rebel by creating your best possible future.
- Leaders create leaders, they do not feel threatened by or insult those they lead.
Codependency is not connection…
Meeting obligations is not effort…
Anger/outrage is not passion…
Attention is not respect…
Need is not desire…
Lust is not love.
Who are you following? Why?

- 4 types of people:
“I don’t understand it, so it’s stupid, I hate it!”
“I don’t understand it, so it’s evil!”
“I don’t understand it, so I’ll just act like it doesn’t exist…”
“I don’t understand it, but I’d be willing to try…”
Which type of person do you want to be around?
- For artists or creatives, much of what we feel in the present is based on our view of the future. We are masters of finding all the possible scenarios that could destroy us, and many times our past has given us plenty of scars to remind us of how painful it could be.
Stress and anxiety begin to torture us when the future feels overwhelmingly difficult, unstable, or painful. Depression haunts when that future has no hope of looking any better than the present.
But when despair sets in… it is because we feel that nobody in our life is capable of helping us, or understanding our pain.
Creating art is a way to remove focus from the future and live only in the moment, with the added hope of connecting to others through feelings and emotion, beyond what we show on our faces—even to those we see every day. It allows us to bring beauty from ashes, create love from pain, and maybe even feel as if there is some sense of purpose to it all.
Never underestimate the power of genuine human connection. The future can hold very few promises, that is just life… but the key to peace in the moment is knowing that no matter what the future holds, you won’t have to face it alone, even if your only companion for the moment is the art you dare to create in the face uncertainty.
Keep creating art… the future, and our souls, depend on it.

- “Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine. They heal.
They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Often misattributed to Steve Jobs, the poem was a part of Apple's iconic Think Different ad campaign developed in the late 90s.
- “Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding. Find out what you already know and you will see the way to fly.”

- There is more to this world than we are told… the depth and complexity of life are far beyond what science has been able to tell us.
Understanding that in relative terms we know almost nothing of our universe has made me never ignore the wisdom of unexplainable coincidence.
- The moment we start accepting the explainable limits… is the moment we stop creating the unexpected.
- Many people forget to share their own thoughts online… and then consume only information that bolsters their existing beliefs. Some algorithms make this worse!
Make an effort to hear unique opinions and new thought provoking ideas, even if you disagree… it’s worth listening.

- “the limits of others…
don’t have to become your own.”
- Build new paths, take risks… create outside the box.
Why is it so hard? It almost feels “wrong.”
Much of what we think or feel has been shaped by our experiences in systems and culture. The “box” is created.
Unfortunately most people will never be able to fully see how much this has happened to themselves, and will simply feel like they can’t do it, or aren’t “qualified.”
This is because most people will never be able to truly step out for long enough to see and judge a system for what it really is. Fear of loss, investment bias, or other issues will blind and stifle most people from making big moves.
It is very easy for a once good system or process to become evil or destructive to the success of its participants, even if the people working inside it are good and well meaning, because the unspoken goal of any system is to maintain its existence. Self-preservation…
The pains of bad experiences and failures are nothing compared to the regret of wondering why you just spent the last 20 years serving and helping to perpetuate a system that was never designed to benefit you, but only to control you and preserve itself.
Lately I’ve been hard pressed to find a single system that hasn’t eventually morphed into being either tyrannical, abusive, over-reaching, or at least self-serving. I can’t be the only one who has noticed, maybe I’ve just never looked at it hard enough before.
It’s very freeing to think that at one time our systems DID NOT EXIST, yet people lived, survived, learned, and even thrived. Both Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson never even went to high school… yet they became president of the United States. I wonder how worried they were about their lack of higher education when they were busy being successful leaders of the free world.
Systems also all help us build up a list of things in our head that gives us a large bucket of reasons to draw out of when we decided to judge a person, limit ourselves, and create a “normal path” that we expect to see everyone follow.
The problem is that the people at the top of these systems almost never followed that path… they were either not subject to the same rules, or were just in the right place at the right time. Sometimes they just pass the position down to their heirs…
Eventually survivorship bias sets in, and the well meaning pioneers of these systems disappear to generations of leaders who cannot relate to the common person at almost any level, yet they are the ones that we look to for guidance… they are the ones we aspire to be like.
We then believe that our opportunities are directly related to our ability to follow the suggestions of these generational leaders… which is terribly illogical.
Modern education systems teach that there is only one correct way to solve a problem, and the solution will be judged based on its ability to mimic sameness, yet the people who created these systems originally were able to draw it up as they pleased, creating the norm, the “curriculum” and the correct way to obtain answers, many times with a goal in mind that none of us are privy to, and the rules change and morph over time as needed, usually managed by a group of people that are far removed from being under those rules, but use them to mould minds to serve specific goals, many times with seemingly good intentions.
Corporations and busineses have their own sets of rules and structures, some based on laws of the land, and others based on trying to keep everyone in line and not cause problems. The “us or them” mentality, also known as tribalism, becomes the norm in these cultures.
Everything around us is has the ability to either be judged or observed. We should use our heart when observing a person, but our head when we judge a system around us, because good judgement is a valuable tool that just might save your life, or help you step into the best version of it.
Next time you make a choice for your future, truly think about WHO and WHAT is shaping it.
- I had forgotten how much I love flying… it has been too long. Will be flying more.
“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
- Leonardo da Vinci
- The true journey is not just in discovering new places, but in developing new ways of seeing.
- Push yourself hard…
But don’t forget to relax.
There will be times in your life where you need one more than the other… adjust accordingly… but prioritize your physical and mental health.

- Expectations…
Cultural, social, political, or otherwise… have killed many a great creation…
Replaced with dull reflections, art often shifts to what the artist was less worried to let people see.
The best artists/writers/creators are the bravest… the brazen… the bold.
