- **📍 French Guiana 🇬🇫**
Two years ago, exactly at this time, I was alone in Aruba and met a woman from French Guiana. I remember having to pause for a moment when she told me where she was from, and then I looked on the map to see its location. We parted ways with a desire for me to visit her country, and back then, I never dreamt that this wish would come true so quickly.
My journey through South America and the Caribbean, lasting about 3 weeks, started from Cayenne, the capital of French Guiana. I'm not even sure if it's correct to say capital because this is actually just a city in France. French Guiana is the largest overseas department of France and the only territory of the European Union in South America.
It's one of the three Guianas, which got their possessive adjectives during the colonial period, but only this one retained it. Dutch Guiana is now Suriname, and British Guiana is just Guyana, both independent states.
I arrived in French Guiana, as expected, from Paris. The one-way flight with airfrance lasted about 9 hours, and I paid 750 euros for it. Quite a lot, but I understood why when we landed. Everything here is expensive. The currency is the euro. Parisian prices, but with a South American environment.
There are no tall buildings; the architecture is still colonial, with colorful houses densely packed together. There's almost no tourism here. Whenever we told someone we were tourists, they looked at us with surprise, as if wondering what we were doing here. English is spoken sparingly, just like everywhere in France.
French Guiana is home to about 300,000 people. The ethnic origin of the population is Creole. Creoles emerged from the mix of Europeans and African slaves, and they predominate in most of the Caribbean. There are also many minorities, mostly from surrounding less developed countries and islands because conditions for living here are better, as you're in the European Union. We met French people who came here to live and work, saying they prefer the climate. Year-round summer suits everyone.
Cayenne can be explored on foot, so we spent the first half of the day exploring its streets and brainstorming how to fill the rest of our planned time. Because again, they don't really have a special tourist offer... What we discovered will be shared in some upcoming posts. 🇬🇫🌴☀️

When they ask me how I endure such a hectic pace of life, I reply because my days are incredibly beautiful. That’s what keeps me going and motivates me to continue because how can one resist such scenes.
The longest day on this journey ended with a sight whose beauty only photos, videos, and words can compromise. Despite the rainy season and overcast skies, the sunset behind Baobab Avenue not only didn’t disappoint but enchanted.
We almost missed it, as we honestly didn’t expect anything special, and just before the sunset, we went to see the Lovers’ Baobab, located about half an hour’s drive from the avenue. This phenomenon symbolizing the most beautiful feeling in the world has existed for centuries, and let’s hope it will last at least that long…
And so, we gaze at the Lovers’ Baobab, play with the children, admire the souvenirs…
Luckily, we had a crazy tuk-tuk driver who hit the gas, and barely alive, we made it just in time for the sunset.
We bid farewell to the baobabs with a silent promise that we will surely return… 🌅🍀 🔥

- **📍Caracas, Venezuela 🇻🇪**
We booked a table at SLVJ CARACAS, a rooftop spot offering panoramic views of the entire city. The only hiccup – we were tired, not accustomed to late nights due to the time difference. And the real challenge? What to wear. No one had brought formal attire, and places like these have a strictly enforced dress code. Everyone rummaged through their suitcases, pulling out the one item that wasn't meant for the beach or the jungle (I still had a surprisingly wide selection for this occasion 🤣), and off we went on our little adventure. Yes, we took a bus for the latter part of the journey, arriving at the club in a less-than-luxurious fashion.
Imagine the look on the faces of the 10 security guards as we disembarked from that bus in front of this ultra-fancy club. Since we were tourists likely to spend a significant amount of money, no one minded the bus or the not-so-fancy outfits, and the party could begin. Costumes, choreography, fireworks... Masks for the guests, on-the-spot makeup, glitter – absolute midnight madness and the other side of Venezuela.
Considering the economic situation in Venezuela, the prices here seem incredible. In the end, our bill amounted to around $ 2000. It seemed like the tables around us were spending no less, making this place a haven for the minority elite in Venezuela.
For us, this night out was an investment in a hilariously memorable experience, one we'll cherish and laugh about for a long time – definitely one of the best nights in a completely unexpected place! 🎉💜🍾

- ~That's a picture from Petra in Jordan, you don't see the carved buildings in the photo, but I find this canyon passage stunning. It's a bit similar to Antelope canyon in Arizona, but the colour of the stone is different, more like sepia.~
The photo was taken in 2015 xd , with my old phone not with a fancy camera 📸 My friend and I went for a short trip in Jordan then, we rented a car and went to the Dead sea, Petra and Wadi Rum desert.
Sending this to @chaoticmonk.lens for guessing correctly in #guess the location ! 😎

The more I travel, the more I long to travel 🌍
What's the name of that syndrome, and does anyone else suffer from it? 😁
Whenever I visit a destination I didn't know much about before, I always think anew, "God, our world is so vast, and time is so limited."
In the capital of Algiers, we're spending another day that started with breakfast and coffee at one of the most authentic hotels I've ever stayed in, the El Djazaïr Hotel (that's how Algiers' capital is called in Arabic; 3rd photo). This hotel opened its doors in the late 19th century. Many famous and historically significant figures have stayed here, such as Che Guevara and Winston Churchill...
Next, we visit the El Hamma Botanical Garden, a visit I wasn't particularly looking forward to until we arrived. I thought, "What can be so special about a botanical garden when I've seen plenty of them?" However! The Dragon Tree Avenue (1st photo, characteristic of Yemen's Socotra Island, a place I've been eager to visit), the bamboo avenue (no need to go all the way to Japan for that), palms reaching the clouds, and vines... Later, I Googled and found out that this botanical garden has been declared the most beautiful in Africa and the third most beautiful in the world when considering its size and the variety of plant species.
Finally, the Palais des Rais, or Bastion 23, one of the historically most significant buildings in Algiers. Although I haven't been to Portugal, I would say its interior architecture is reminiscent of that country. As a lover of colors and patterns, we couldn't have bid farewell to the capital of Algiers in a better way as we embarked on our adventure in the Sahara...
Please share your impressions of Algiers, the capital. Did you envision it this way, and how do you like it? 🎋💚🌴
