- Recently I'm not lucky~But it will get better~
- Just saw Vitalik at my hotel gym, surely he is prepping up to look ripe for rAAVE
- Be healthy~
- We saw a gold rush last year with crazy multiples (as high as 15x!) for music publishing catalog deals set by Hipgnosis. Deals that make it very hard to see how they will make a return with current streaming economics. Fomo then set up across the board with what felt like a new deal announced every week.
Cooldown earlier this year fortunately brought us back to reality. But yesterday I was surprised to see the Brookfield x Primary Wave $2bn deal: https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/primary-wave-strikes-2-billion-deal-with-financial-giant-brookfield-to-acquire-music-copyrights/
Will be interesting to see what their strategy is - types of catalogs they go after and expected returns.
Spoke to one of my friends who works for a large *traditional* investment firm and they are not stopping in looking at this space. Music rights now being bucketed alongside infrastructure investments in their diversification strategy.
Interested in people's thoughts. Looking at you @sameold.lens @motiveunknown.lens
