- **An attempt to strangle crypto, another... 🙈**
A US Senator has introduced a bill to crack down on digital asset laundering. Here are a few talking points:
- Introducing KYC for cryptocurrency wallets, miners, validators and other network participants.
- Companies and banks must verify the identities of customers and counterparties, keep records and file reports.
- Reduce the risks of illicit funding through crypto-machines and verification of their users.
❗️**BUT without panic**, only 1 of the 330 bills she previously proposed was passed. She was also lambasted in the media as.
- "The regulations proposed by Warren would effectively ban Bitcoin in the U.S.!"
- "The Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act is a direct attack on technological advancement and personal privacy. "

- **A riot at Consensys? ⚖️**
A group of more than two dozen former Consensys employees have filed a class action lawsuit against founder Joseph Lubin.
According to the papers, in 2015, Lubin promised employees a stake in the firm while assuring them he had no plans to issue new shares or split the business.
Consensys employees received a 30% stake. The authors of the lawsuit own 9%. All of them, they say, agreed to a lower salary with the expectation that they would receive dividends from those shares.
However, the defendant, according to the suit, deceived them and "broke its promise" when it founded the new firm and transferred most of its assets, including the MetaMask wallet, to it.

The US government is one of the world's largest holders of bitcoin, and holds about 200,000 BTC in hardware wallets, the WSJ reports. Most of the assets held in government accounts are seized from cybercriminals.
Anthony Scaramucci (ex-White House Communications Director) predicts BTC's market capitalization at 15 trillion, which is a $700,000 price tag.
**There is a 90% 💰 probability of BTC-ETF approval 💰**
This is indicated by the recent update of the application from ARK and 21Shares, confirming that the SEC is not avoiding negotiations on this topic. This only happens when the agency intends to approve an application for something.
The Commission's reluctance to appeal the court's ruling on Grayscale's ETF also signals this. Another negotiation is likely to begin soon.

📖 Summary:
- Arthur anticipates a "cryptocurrency paradise" that will come after the longest bear market in history and give way to a "true bull market."
- The future bull market will be driven by the rise of fiat liquidity and the commercialization of artificial intelligence - "I know the crypto market very well, I want to invest in something that combines cryptocurrency with AI"
- Analyzes why the world's largest central banks will print more money than ever to save their government bond markets.
- How new technologies, especially artificial intelligence, will be funded with this money and how this will affect cryptocurrencies such as Filecoin.
- Looks at the current structure of the world economy based on the US dollar and how this relates to the future of cryptocurrencies.

- Congressman Tom Emmer criticizes Gary Gensler for "attacking the crypto industry"
- U.S. Senator Warren Davidson continues to push for restructuring the SEC and firing Gary Gensler

Reasons:
- Gensler has failed to provide documents requested by Congress as far back as 7 months ago.
- The SEC chief has not disclosed his relationship with FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried.
- Gensler is doing nothing to bring clarity to crypto regulation.
- "Are We There Yet" (Arthur Hayes essay from 12.09.2023) 🔥
In a new essay, Arthur discusses why regulators' failed measures in the inflation-fighting section could be the catalyst for a new bullrun in the cryptocurrency market.
📖 Summary:
- If the Fed decides to cut interest rates, Bitcoin will quickly rise to $70,000.
- Arthur criticizes cryptocurrency ETFs, emphasizing that using them doesn't move money outside the system of traditional finance, so you have to buy bitcoins and withdraw them to your wallet.
- "Sir Powell can keep raising rates as long as the market is willing to accept an interest rate below nominal GDP growth. But Lord Satoshi gave the world an alternative financial system with a fixed currency and a decentralized, almost instantaneous payment network called Bitcoin. Banks had competition they had never faced before."

- Crypto swing 😵
Yesterday, in less than an hour, the price of BTC dropped by 7%, from $29.8k to $27.78k. Some experts attribute this to a notification from Arkham Intelligence, an analytics service that alerted about BTC movement from US government and Mt.Gox wallets.
Pleszhe Arkham apologized for the fake information, saying "it was a mistake in the notification mechanism" and stressed that they couldn't crash the rate because their notification was supposedly after the fall.
So much for the new kind of manipulation, all ingenious is simple...
Very good "PR" and an opportunity to make themselves known to the market.
- "Please Regulate Us" ⚖️
Coinbase is demanding that the SEC respond to a petition dated July 22, 2022, when the SEC was expected to update the current cryptosphere rulebook, and begin taking adequate action that will bring clarity to crypto regulation.

- Creditors released a report on FTX's collapse 🤐
So far, creditors have found more than null.4 billion in assets, another null.7 billion is in the process of being recovered, and the rest has not been found. The exchange's total liabilities amount to about $12 billion...
📖 A little squeeze on the reporting:
- The entire core staff had inadequate job skills and did not know how to manage risk;
- In all respects and matters, Sam Bankman-Fried had the last word;
- In 2019, the FTX code was changed so that it was possible to withdraw unlimited funds to Alameda. A week later, more in-depth changes were made to protect Alameda from liquidation;
- FTX kept almost all of its crypto assets in hot wallets.
- "DeFi field must comply with anti-money laundering rules" 💦💰

Blocktrace, using chatbot Robby the Robot, is building its AI with artificial intelligence to make it easier to track transactions on the blockchain.
"Users will be able to quickly request specific information, such as transactions with dates and amounts. This saves time compared to the manual process."
Scanning and analyzing blockchain can be a daunting task, especially when sorting through tens of thousands of addresses and millions of transactions. Blocktrace hopes artificial intelligence can speed up the analysis process and make it easier to identify trends and anomalies.
"You can use things like AI analysis on blockchain to see if wallets are doing the same things at the same time. Even if there are no explicit connections, you can conclude with a reasonable degree of certainty that all of these wallets are connected to the same person."

- "The administration is pushing for a digital dollar" 😳
While the crypto industry awaits the U.S. government's decision on whether to issue a central bank digital currency, a former economic official said that the administration is actively developing a digital dollar as a means to displace private cryptocurrencies that allow for ransomware and sanctions violations.
The CBDC issued by the Federal Reserve could mark a dramatic change in both the banking industry and the crypto sector-including its potential impact on non-state steblecoins, whose role could override the government-backed virtual dollar.

- Some officials predict an increased likelihood of recession in 2023.
- Several officials advocated a 50 basis point increase in interest rates.
- Officials have expressed a high level of uncertainty about the economy, the labor market, and inflation forecasts.
- Inflation has fallen over the past three months, but that's not enough.
- Continued labor market tensions will add to the pressure on inflation.
- Everyone agrees with continued balance sheet tightening.
- Restrictive monetary policy will be necessary until inflation drops to 2%.
- Current inflation is too high.

A NYDFS spokesperson declined to comment on the news, but noted that the company is actively working to protect consumers from the risks associated with crypto-investing.
PayPal, on the other hand, is stopping work on its stabelcoin because of heavy scrutiny from regulators. Previously, they were planning to launch stablcoin on the market in the near future.

- 🤓 Jerome Powell's talking points during a speech:
(The Economic Club of Washington).
- Inflation has begun to fall due to lower energy prices.
- The NFP (labor market) report came out Friday with a stronger than expected reading.
- If the labor market trend continues, the Fed will raise rates more.
- This is not the peak of tightening from the Fed.
- The regulator won't stop until inflation falls to 2%.
- The regulator plans to lower inflation significantly in 2023.
- But the tightening policy is still a couple of years away from stopping!
- There is no disinflation in the services sector yet, only in the goods sector. In the housing market, disinflation is expected in the second half of the year.
- As for the national debt, Congress has to raise the limit! If they don't, the Fed can't protect the economy.
- The Fed and analysts are hoping for a weaker labor market. Then inflation will fall even more. If the labor market doesn't weaken, we will have to raise rates even more in March.
- We will raise rates to what we think is a sufficient level and then see if we need to raise rates more ❗️
- The protagonist of the film "The Big Short" and his mysterious prediction about the market 😳
Michael Buehry's story was the basis for the movie "The Down Game" (Big Short, 2015). Before the recent Fed meeting, he urged his subscribers to sell. He also compares the current movement of the S&P500 to that of 2001, when sentiment was decidedly bearish.
The Fed raised the interest rate by 0.25% to 4.75%. Markets reacted positively and showed a five-month high. Michael Buehry will delete the tweet and then his account, but has already reinstated it...

- The vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway called for a U.S. cryptocurrency ban
The WSJ published an article titled "Why Should America Ban Cryptocurrencies?" by Charles Munger, a 99-year-old associate of Warren Buffett.
In it, the investor compares digital assets to gambling, and attributes their growth to an "unfortunate" gap in regulation.
"Cryptocurrency is not a means of payment, not a commodity and not a derivative. It is a kind of roulette with 100% house edge (casino advantage), which is regulated in countries that traditionally compete in anti-ratings. Obviously, the federal authorities should now pass a law banning it."

- 🤓 Jerome Powell's talking points during the FOMC speech:
- The Fed is firmly committed to lowering inflation by 2%;
- The full effects of tightening have yet to be felt;
- Over the past year, we have taken decisive action;
- The economy slowed down significantly last year.
- We will have to maintain our restrictive stance for some time.
- Inflation remains well above target.
- We will need significantly more evidence to be confident that inflation is on a downward trend.
- Long-term inflation expectations remain stable.
- Inflation has slowed over the past three months, which is a welcome change.
- History cautions against premature easing of credit policy.
- The slow pace of rate increases allows us to better gauge our progress toward our goals.
- We are extremely concerned about the risks inflation poses on both sides of the mandate.
- Our attention is not drawn to short-term changes in financial conditions.
- We will consider financial conditions and other factors in shaping our policies.
- We have not yet made a decision on the terminal rate; we will consider the data before March.
- By many measures, the labor market is still very strong.
- We're predicting that wages will go down.
- It was premature to claim victory over inflation.
- The terminal rate may be higher than we expected in December.
- For the first time, we can declare that deflationary process has begun.
- We are talking about a couple more rate hikes to take the appropriate restrictive stance.
- It used to be that a rate hike every other meeting was the norm. Now the pause is not what we need.
- The 3-month PCE inflation rate is quite low.

1️⃣ Alameda Research began withdrawing altcoins from its wallets via mixers. Users believe Fried himself is involved.

2️⃣ The Sam Bankman-Friede case will be handled by a new judge, Lewis Kaplan. He is known for his involvement in the trials of Prince Andrew and Donald Trump. Perhaps Sam will make a plea bargain.
The new judge replaces Ronnie Abrams, who refused to pursue the case because of a potential conflict of interest.
3️⃣ The SEC said FTX Ventures and SBF allegedly used customer funds for two $100 million investments each in Dave and Mysten Labs (Sui's development team). Matching funds may be required to pay it back.
- Cryptocurrency does not exist for institutional investors 🤨
Asset managers who have not succumbed to cryptocurrency fever are now very happy with their prudence. They have avoided the problems associated with excessive volatility.
