- I’ve been encountering forks for a while now and have few findings that everyone might find useful. First of all, forks are important for the open source culture and replication of the software. Forking code for learning purposes or even commercial purposes fuels innovation. Usually there is no point of reinventing the wheel while some modifications or improvements might be helpful on a fork. Fork can also be a community-driven decision on vision. Maybe there are two paths to improve the codebase and enabling both visions requires forking (Linux distributions for example).
In web3 forking has been a method to fuel new communities (and some cases just to enforce meaningless token farming). Forked code has helped to distribute software across different EVM networks and I would argue that having a copy of Uniswap on every network make sense especially on networks where transactions fees are lower as it helps to onboard more users from centralized finance, faster that the core team could deploy, adding net positive value.
However, some of the protocols onchain might be technically and economically complex systems. This means that forking these protocols would require the engineers to understand these systems inside out, otherwise there might be potential issues or open attack vectors. Most of the exploits over the past years in DeFi has been the cause of the developers mainly not knowing the code while implementing minir changes and thats a fundamental problem with complex DeFi protocols (lending, complex amms etc).
When you are using a complex fork be mindful that the developer team on the fork doesn’t necessarily have sufficient understanding of the codebase even if its a identical fork, in case of issues there might be less understanding for remedy and how to fix things. When you are using a fork, you are taking excess risk. Which can be okay if you agree on taking it.

- FTX Foundation staffer fights for $275K bonus promised by SBF
FTX Foundation employee Ross Rheingans-Yoo said he was not part of Sam Bankman-Fried’s “inner circle” and knew nothing about FTX’s fraud.

An employee of FTX’s charity wing recruited by FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried is trying to get paid $275,000, the remainder of his claimed 2022 salary bonus.
Ross Rheingans-Yoo's lawyers argued in a Nov. 13 court filing that only $375,000 of his $650,000 bonus was paid by FTX. They claim the remaining funds were owed when the crypto exchange filed for bankruptcy in November 2022.
Rheingans-Yoo’s latest filing comes in response to FTX’s objection filed on Oct. 30.

Rheingans-Yoo shared part of a Google Doc created by Bankman-Fried that laid out his employment terms at the FTX Foundation, which came with a $100,000 base salary. He claimed Bankman-Fried told him in memo
Rheingans-Yoo iterated he was not part of Bankman-Fried’s “inner circle” and wasn’t aware that FTX misappropriated customer funds with his lawyers adding:
“Instead, Rheingans-Yoo was a faithful employee who found himself in a mess he did not create.”
Rheingans-Yoo claims he is entitled to a further $650,000 specifically to donate to charity, a prepetition salary payment of about $5,700 and a post-petition salary of at least $62,800.
Advisers claim FTX has already fully paid Rheingans-Yoo his bonus because he elected to have the award partially repaid via options in the firm’s corporate affiliates before it filed for bankruptcy.

However, Rheingans-Yoo denies that claim.
The fate of Rheingans-Yoo’s bonus will be determined by a Delaware bankruptcy judge who is overseeing FTX’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

FTX sued Rheingans-Yoo’s Latona Biosciences Group, Bankman-Fried and several other defendants in July to return $71.6 million in investments and donations allegedly sent to various life science companies.
The crypto exchange claims Rheingans-Yoo and Bankman-Fried personally benefited from the investments and donations but FTX and Alameda Research did not.
“Each of these transfers was made with the intent to hinder, delay, or defraud present or future creditors, a fact known by the FTX Foundation, Latona, and Bankman-Fried.”
Rheingans-Yoo claims his work at Latona, which involved analyzing potential recipients, speaking with their founders and executives and conducting due diligence, would’ve produced “positive results for society.”

- Magic Eden integrates Solana’s compressed NFTs into marketplace
NFT marketplace Magic Eden believes that lowering the costs in NFT production creates an “easy access point” for new users to try NFTs.
Nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace Magic Eden has announced that it will support Solana’s compressed NFTs (cNFTs) to provide a cost-efficient and scalable alternative to owning digital collectibles.
CNFTs differ from the usual Solana NFTs because their data is [compressed](https://solana.com/news/how-to-use-compressed-nfts-on-solana) and stored off-chain. Because of this, production in larger quantities is more feasible as they require lesser fees to mint.
According to Magic Eden, this type of NFT is ideal for creating mass-produced collections in various industries like gaming, music, events and the metaverse. The NFT marketplace believes that it allows creators to reach wider audiences without spending more.
The NFT marketplace also believes that by lowering the costs involved in NFT production, it can potentially promote adoption and become an “easy access point” for new people to try out collecting NFTs. With lower costs, users can collect NFTs without risking a large amount of funds to acquire collections. It lowers the risk of losing money over NFTs.
- Bitcoin’s cycles are changing — Bloomberg analyst Jamie Coutts explains
This week’s episode of Market Talks discusses how Bitcoin cycles are changing and how it could impact the upcoming halving.
In the latest episode of Cointelegraph’s *Market Talks*, host [Ray Salmond](https://cointelegraph.com/authors/ray-salmond) speaks with Jamie Coutts, a chartered market technician and crypto market analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.
When asked whether Bitcoin’s pre- and post-halving price action could differ from previous cycles due to a change in global monetary policy, Coutts said:
> “I’ve been writing about this for most of the year. We do have some strong fundamentals in the space, but ultimately, what drives risk assets is liquidity. The longer that we have this tightening cycle, and if we start to see an uptick in unemployment and more stress in the banking sector, then there could be a bit more pain for risk assets like Bitcoin.”
