- Yeah, well there's some nuance required here when figuring out who owns that top NFT and what the implications are:
Multisig Wallet:
The decentralized method would be that the Team NFT is the selective output of that team. In that diagram the Access Passes are the actual team, and the Team NFT is a shared object storing whatever the team wants to store. The team can choose to store their inventory, their achievements, whatever. The data of the team can be summed up in the top NFT, while the governance and decision-making is in the Access Passes + Multisig.
App-owned:
I suspect what we'll likely see from most apps is that the app owns the wallet and they permit the players to interact with it. All of the logic gets handled by the app, and as far as the app is concerned the top NFT -is- the team. The top NFT can store the player NFTs and the entire hierarchy, with the app controlling who has access to what (and even allowing for transferring out to an external wallet). We can see this with Nike's dotSwoosh right now. Nike permits me to access the NFTs in my dotSwoosh wallet, but I don't have ownership of the wallet. Starbucks does a similar thing too, and they allow me to send my Starbucks NFTs out of their walled garden and into my own wallet.
Lots of possibilities here. 🤯
- **Shared Objects**
This post is merely a thought experiment meant to provoke more conversation and ideation around this concept. It’s the beginning of a conversation…
You may have seen or heard me mention TBAs recently (it’s all I can think about). A TBA (token bound account) is the wallet address of an NFT, because oh by the way every NFT now has a wallet(!!). Every NFT can contain other NFTs and any other tokens.
**WHAT DOES THIS ACTUALLY MEAN?**
It means we can easily create what I’ll refer to as Shared Objects. These can be pieces of art, ideas, magazines, publications, gaming teams, and even entire communities.
**HOW CAN THIS WORK?**
One way to create a Shared Object on Lens would be for an app to be able to open an NFT, and then have an “Enable Contribution” setting when creating a post. When enabled, the user’s post to Lens would automatically be Collected and sent to the Shared Object. [See attached image]. Another option would be for the app to load the Shared Object NFT and allow users to send any NFT to that object. A simple NFT transfer is all it takes. Access to these Shared Objects can of course be token gated like we’re already doing with communities.
This implementation could be done for small objects, such as a a piece of art that maybe 3 people would like to collaborate on. It could also be applied to teams or communities. There could be settings for some or all of a user’s posts to get sent to the community’s token, or even a selective “Archive” function. This would make the output of the community composable, monetizable, and capable of anything an NFT can do, all while retaining proper attributions. Royalties/revenue could be sent to a user’s ID, Access Pass, Wallet, etc.
A gaming team could collect and share assets: Players could acquire weapons and share them with the team by keeping it in the team’s NFT.
The possibilities are truly endless here. I’d love to hear any ideas or questions furthering this topic.
