- Jose Mourinho reveals why Cristiano Ronaldo’s second spell at Man United ended badly
Speaking with Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo’s former teammate, on FIVE, Mourinho said:
“I think you don’t coach (Cristiano). Motivation you don’t need to give him. Ambition, responsibility, you cannot give him, technically you cannot give him.
“It’s just to give some tactical adjustments and let the guy be happy.”
Asked if there was anything he could teach him, he humbly replied: “I don’t think so, he doesn’t need it.”
Between May 2016 until December 2018, Mourinho was United’s manager. Prior to that, he managed Ronaldo at Real Madrid, where they won the Copa del Rey and La Liga.
Ronaldo joined the Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr after leaving Man United and the Portuguese star has regained his form and love for the game while playing in the Middle East.
In 19 appearances this season for Al-Nassr, he has scored 21 goals and provided nine assists.
Just give Ronaldo respect he deserves and he delivers massively
- Mourinho never gets his credit, but if there is one manager who didn't just get the best out of Ronaldo but made him a beast, that's Jose.
Prior to Jose, Ronaldo was deemed to be back flat track bully, he scored many goals against the small teams and struggled against the big teams.
You can look at his performances against Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona before Jose. He scored against Arsenal a lot but between 2005 and 2008, Arsenal was pretty much a big club with a small team.
All changed when Jose joined Madrid, in their first game, Ronaldo ghosted, in their Copa Del Rey final, then the clutch version was birthed.
Jose challenged him and dished his hard line treatment to get rye best out of him.
Aside Ronaldo having his best numbers under him, he became more influential in the big games.
Jose's method works with players driven to want to be the best, those who want to be pampered could get mental breakdown under him.
He is the manager of real men.
- There is a saying in Spain - "No one has ever loved Madrid like Guti." Someone who squandered the chance to play 90 minutes elsewhere to play 30 minutes in Madrid, sacrificed himself - who could love Madrid more than him!
History remembers Guti because of this love and loyalty to Madrid, but not Guti who gave up his legacy, stardom as a player for Madrid; Not one of the best in history due to big money, big name signings like Zidane, Beckham or Luis Figo. Guti's genuine love for Madrid, his love of loyalty, was perhaps no less than Totti's love for Roma.
But an interesting thing is that Guti's first love was not Real Madrid, even though he was born in Madrid, he dreamed of wearing the Blaugrana jersey. Little Guti's life changed when he first donned the Royal White jersey of Madrid at the age of 10, dedicating the next 25 years of his career to Madrid.
Guti was a genius, could play any position on the pitch with ease. Sometimes a striker, sometimes a winger, sometimes a creative attacking midfielder, sometimes a deep lying playmaker. Kazi Guti's all-round versatility made him a coach's favorite but also cursed his career with Madrid's Galacticos crowd.
The versatile Guti had no fixed role in his Madrid career, changing roles from time to time to allow Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham, Zidane to play in their preferred positions. This allowed Guti to get plenty of game time but never settled into a position, which affected his game as well.
After much speculation, discussion and criticism, when Figo arrived at Madrid, the home boy's chances of playing on the right wing died.
Under Vincent del Bosque in the 2000/01 season, Guti started as Madrid's regular striker in the absence of striker Fernando Morientes and scored 18 goals that season! But Guti had to leave the place after Ronaldo Nazario came to Madrid.
Playing as a playmaker again in the 2002/03 season, Guti hit double figures in goals/assists. This time too, English superstar Beckham had to leave the place.
Guti had a fixed position only once in his Madrid career, in the 2007/08 season. After Beckham left Zidane's Madrid, Guti started playing as a regular playmaker for Madrid. During the 2007/08 season Fabio Capello also provided 18 assists at this time!
Guti was free after Zidane's departure, for the first time in his career Guti found the role he had sought throughout his career. His childhood dream of playing flamboyant football with a blend of j dropping every pass, smooth touch vision, finally came true. There were no footballers like Guti in the world at that time.
But by the time he was over thirty, the club that had dedicated itself to Madrid, that could have rejected any football club in the world to play half an hour in a Madrid jersey, was nearing its end.
The frustration of not being able to play a specific position throughout his career left a deep impression on Man Guti. He was short-tempered, used to come into the limelight by speaking controversially, sometimes quarreled with people like Beckham, lost the will to be regular, could not prolong his national career.
Guti is a puzzle name. Overrated by some, by others one of the most talented men to ever hit the football pitch, he is sometimes the epitome of Madrid's whites. Despite the talent, irresponsibility that never made him one of the best of his generation or history, he willingly stepped away from the Santiago Bernabeu spotlight to make room for the rest.
Take Madrid's clash with Sevilla. Madrid were leading 2-1 when Gutierrez got the ball in the D box. Guti himself was in the position to take a shot but without taking the shot he turned and passed the backhill pass to Zidane standing next to him, Zidane put the ball in the net but was surprised to see Guti's arrogance.
A few years later this happened again in a match against Departivo La Coruna. Guti was in a shooting position after Kaka D passed to Guti in the box, the goalkeeper also came close to Guti. Guti does not shoot from this position but pulls back and gives a backhill pass to Karim BenzemaLike Zidane, Benzema also sent the ball into the net, but like last time, everyone agreed that the goal was better than Benzema!
Such rare moments of brilliance are what define Guti, the moments that gave birth to Guti that brought laughter to the tumultuous Galactico dressing room. Guti played football with talent like Pablo Picasso and weakness like Achilles mixed together. Although he had pride, ambition, and skill, there was no consistency. Guti was a free spirit whose beauty was his unpredictability.
Guti was a cult player, impossible to explain with ordinary dictionary words. Free-spirited games like Guti emerged at a time when players found themselves bound by a set of rules. It is pointless not to dwell on the elusive mystery of the name Guti because every time Guti touched the football, something new was created.
Guti's career should not be verified by statistics but should be done with every breath thrown on the football pitch. Guti may not be in the list of the best in history, but Gutierrez Hernandez will be the biggest cult player in the history of Madrid in the crowd of Galacticos.. The man, the myth, the legend!

- CALVIN BASSEY”
(No Gree For Anybody!!!)
Calvin Bassey was only 6 years old when his father abandoned his mum and his 3 other brothers in Italy where he was born.
His mother had to move to the Uk with her 4 sons settling in one of the roughest parts of London called “Newham”, a place Bassey said at the time was like a “War Zone”.
Kids were being stabbed and killed due to gang violence and Bassey lost 2 of his mates that period with one shot dead, it was “deadly” area at the time.
There was only two ways to survival, either you end up in a gang or you play football, and Calvin Bassey chose to play the beautiful game, football but things only got worse.
“EVERYTHING YOU ARE COMES FROM YOUR CHOICES”As a teenager, no club wanted him, he went to trials at Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Wolves, Leyton Orient, Charlton Athletic and Barnet, and all these clubs said NO to him.
Leyton Orient and Charlton Athletic rejected him twice but the rejection of Charlton was the one that hit him the most as he spent time doing trials at the club not just once but twice and both times the club rejected him.
He felt if a club can reject me twice, it meant he wasn’t really good enough.
“REJECTION IS NOT FATAL; IT’S MERELY SOMEONE’S OPINION.”He thought of giving up on his dream of playing football professionally but decided to give it one final push.
He said to himself, “I’m going all out, and if I don’t get a club, I’m quitting” and that was when he got a “Do-or-die” trial at Leicester City.
He was playing as a LeftBack and 13 left-backs had already done trials before him and got rejected, so he felt he stood no chance at all.
“WHEN THE WORLD SAYS, ‘GIVE UP’, HOPE WHISPERS, ‘TRY IT ONE MORE TIME.”Due to he felt he stood no chance, he just played with freedom and had fun and that was what got him signed to Leicester City at the age of 15 years.
Now imagine the mental strength of a teenager that got rejected by 6 clubs and yet kept going, that’s an elite mentality.
He couldn’t believe he was signed and went late to school that morning. His teachers got angry asking him why he was late, he told them he was getting signed by Leicester, they doubted him until he showed them pictures and they started clapping for him.
“THE MAGIC HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T GIVE UP”He moved from Leicester City’s Under 18 to the Under 23’s but couldn’t break into the first team but Steven Gerrard signed him for Rangers in 2020.
Within 5 months of signing his first professional contract, he moved his mum and brothers out of Newham.
His Rangers career didn’t start off well as he wasn’t a regular under Gerard but like always he kept working hard.
“NO MATTER HOW HARD IT IS, KEEP GOING, YOU ONLY FAIL WHEN YOU QUIT.”When Gerrard left for Aston Villa and Giovani took over, he started playing Bassey moving him from left back to Centre back and he became one of the best young defenders in Europe.
He became Rangers most expensive sale when they sold him to European giants, Ajax for a club record fee of £20 million in 2022 just after 2 years.

- Pierluigi Collina, when asked about the most moving moment of his career:
"We were in the last two minutes, and I saw the Bayern players on the bench ready to celebrate their title. The fans were hugging each other in the stands waiting for my final whistle.
Then suddenly, Manchester scores two goals in two minutes and reverses the score. I will never forget the joy of the players and the English bench, it looked like lions roaring, in front of a cathedral silence on the Bayern side.
The United players were running like crazy on the pitch, while I saw a Bayern player lying crying, without hope, with enormous disappointment. I approach him, but I can't think of anything else to say to him other than "Get up and fight, you still have 20 seconds left!
But at that moment, I saw the true face of football, where players would give their whole lives in a stadium, with people shouting with joy and others bruised deep in their souls." ❤️🙏

- We saw some heartbreaking goodbyes in 2023! 💔😢
- Eleven players that could’ve represented Nigeria but opted for other countries.
- The former Manchester City midfielder is convinced three-time winners Nigeria are not among the favourites to win the continental championship next month
Super Falcons and Barcelona Ladies forward Asisat Oshoala has taken a firm stance against Ivorian football legend Yaya Toure’s recent prediction regarding Nigeria’s performance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria will compete in Group A at the AFCON alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
Ivory Coast (two titles) and Nigeria (three titles) are the only former champions in the group and the favourites to qualify for the knockout rounds.
However, Ivorian legend Toure backed his country and Guinea-Bissau to make it past the group stage and reach the latter phases of the competition.
Still, Oshoala is not impressed by Toure’s submission.
Asisat Oshoala
Asisat Oshoala
In a chat with Brila FM, the six-time Africa Women Player of the Year dismissed Toure’s skepticism while backing Nigeria’s talented strikers to lift the Super Eagles to glory.
“Talk is cheap. When we get to the tournament, we will separate the boys from the men,” Oshoala said.
“Why not? We have the almighty Osimhen, the best player in Africa; we have Boniface doing well at club level. I feel like we have a good team; it’s not about individual talent.
“I feel like we have a good team, and we have enough time to build up towards the tournament.”
Nigeria boast some of the best attackers in Africa, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen rated as the most valuable player on the continent.
The 2023 Africa Footballer of the Year was the top scorer during the qualification campaign, netting ten goals in six games.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a man who embodied true socialist spirit though not without his shortcomings. Today even drug lords are masquerading themselves as standing on his legacy which is far from what he knew and believed.
Obafemi Awolowo, a key figure in Nigerian history, was a prominent statesman, nationalist, and the first Premier of the Western Region.
Known as the "Architect of Modern Nigeria," he played a crucial role in the country's independence and its early development.
Awolowo was a skilled orator, an advocate for free education, and the founder of the first television station in Africa.
His influence and contributions continue to shape Nigeria's political and educational landscape.

- Francis Ngannou on meeting Cristiano Ronaldo🗣️:
“I hope you will believe me, because this is true (laughs). I was at the Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh, where Cristiano was living at the time. At first I met his friend, Ricky, he was saying Ronaldo was a big fan of me.
I was thinking, I hope this guy is not messing with me and it was true. Then we went upstairs to see Cristiano. I was quite suprised, I said ‘this is Cristiano, right?’
Ronaldo was a very wonderful person, as if I had known him for a while even though it was the first time I had ever met him.
We started talking, he started telling things about me, about watching my fights at 4am.
He knew me pretty good, I was suprised. We talked for some time, I couldn’t really believe it.”❤️👑

- FRANCIS N’GANNOU INSPIRING STORY.
Francis N'Gannou was born and raised in the village of Batié, West Region of Cameroon. He lived in poverty and had little formal education growing up.
Ngannou's parents divorced when he was six, and he was sent to live with his aunt. At the age of 10, Ngannou started working in a sand quarry in Batié due to lack of funds.
He did various odd jobs to make ends meet, till the age of 26, when he decided to go to Paris, France 🇫🇷. upon arriving in Europe, he was imprisoned for two months in Spain for illegally crossing the border.
After Ngannou arrived Paris, he had no money, no friends, and no place to stay. After being homeless in the streets of Paris, he met Francis Carmont who introduced him to Fernand Lopez and the MMA factory. Being a fan of Mike Tyson, Ngannou was originally wanted to a boxer, but Lopez convinced him to go in for MMA instead.
He fought his way to the top of the UFC and earned $600,000 payout in his last fight as an MMA fighter. He eventually had to break up with his employers because they were not willing to pay him what he thought he was owed and did not accept his request to try professional boxing which paid better. They went bad with him and made him one last offer in these final stages.
The UFC ultimately agreed to give Ngannou a massive $8 million contract offer to fight Jon Jones, which would have been one of the best fights in the league. Surprisingly, he turned it down earlier this year and called him a "tr.uc" until he became a free agent.
Ngannou signed a deal with the Professional Fighterd League (PFL) and was given the freedom to pursue a boxing match on his own terms but gets equity in the company, a seat on the PFL athlete advisory board and he also became president of PFL Africa.
N'Gannou fought Tyson Fury October 28th, the British professional boxer who has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title since 2020. With this fight, he will make more than $10 million as a professional boxer.
Mike Tyson trains him, and people like C. Ronaldo celebrate his achievements and determination.
He now eats on the same table with big people like Samuel Eto'o
Francis N'Gannou is already a legend😍

- Andre Onana emerged Manchester United's highest rated player (7.4), managed to complete 8 long balls and make 7 saves, including 4 saves from close range. However, he also conceded 3 goals because of his poor defence and made 1 clearance.
Despite the difficult match, Onana's performance helped prevent the scoreline from being even more disappointing.

- Thomas Fuller, an African sold into slavery in 1724 at the age of 14, was sometimes known as the “Virginia Calculator” for his extraordinary ability to solve complex math problems in his head. He was asked how many seconds there were in a year and a half, he answered in about two minutes, 47,304,000. Again he was asked how many seconds a man has lived who is 70 years, 17 days and 12 hours old, he answered in a minute and a half 2,210,500,800.
One of the men was working out the problems on paper, and informed Fuller that he was wrong, because the answer was much smaller. Fuller hastily replied, "'Top, massa, you forget de leap year." When the leap year was added in, the sums matched.

- Emmanuel Eboue: How I Lost All My Millions To My Ex-Wife
Former Arsenal player, Emmanuel Eboue, revealed how he lost millions of pounds of his earnings and went from a rich football star to a poor man who was on the brink of suicide.
He sought divine intervention to prevent him from taking his own life.
“I want God to help me,” Eboue told the Mirror. “Only He can help take these thoughts from my mind.”
Ivorian defender Eboue, narrated to the Mirror his heartbreaking story of the loss of his finances, primarily pointing fingers at his estranged wife Aurelie and his naivety.
Eboue told the British tabloid that he lost all his money to Aurelie, who he claimed also handled his finances, in their divorce settlement and was ordered to give up his house in London to the ex-wife.
Eboue concluded by saying: “I can’t afford the money to continue to have any lawyer or barrister”.
Eboue admits he is still forced to take anti-depressants as he continues his fight to live.
"Often, I would lock myself in my room for three or four days," he added. "Even today, I take antidepressants."
- Reporter🗣️: “Who were you more afraid of? Messi or Ronaldo?”
Neuer🗣️: “Well, both players played really well, they both have strengths and weaknesses, but if I had to choose one, I would choose Cristiano.”
Reporter🗣️: “Is it because Cristiano Ronaldo scored the most goals against you despite not playing in the German League?”
Neuer🗣️: “Well, haha, he's a very strong hitter of the ball. In Messi's case, he was dribbling past defenders, sometimes defenders blocked him, sometimes not, but you can anticipate when the shot is coming so you know you have time to adapt.”
"But in Cristiano's case, when he crosses the halfway line, you have to be on high alert. He can launch the missile at any time and you won't even realize when it's crossed the net. So it tests your reflexes to the limit. So I think I didn't want to face Cristiano." a lot".

- THE STORY OF ETIM ESIN - the Nigerian star footballer who could have been One of the World Best Players but lost it all due to youthful exuberance.
Yes, before the days of Jay-Jay Okocha, there was a playmaker in the Nigerian team who was a great dribbler and was even nicknamed "The African Maradona". His name, Etim Esin.
Who is Etim, how special was he, what did he do, and how did he lose it all?
It was 1987 and the Nigerian U-20 team were in camp around Surulere, preparing to leave the country in a few days for the World Cup in Chile.
Etim Esin was the star boy of the team, a supremely gifted player who had something extra each time he was on the ball.
Former Super Eagles striker Charles Okonkwo once said Etim Esin was one of the few players who would effortlessly make the Nigerian team of any generation.
Even the late Stephen Keshi, also had this to say about him:
“We had Etim Esin and relied so much on him. The team was built around him because he had so much skill and had so much to offer. So we said this is our “Diego Maradona” in Nigeria because he can do anything with the ball. It was like he was born with the ball.”
The U-20 team were under strict instructions not to leave camp, but Etim Esin couldn't resist the lure of Lagos nightlife. He broke out of camp with 2 other players to visit a nightclub.
On their way out, armed robbers attacked them and shot Etim Esin in the leg. He was thought to have died, but luckily he was found and given early medical attention.
It was said that the robbers sent Etim an apology letter while he was in the hospital claiming that they didn't recognise him the night before.
The medical team had to rush through his medical process just to get him to the World Cup.
Etim was able to make it to Chile half-fit, and Nigeria was thoroughly embarrassed as they crashed out of the tournament with the worst result since the team debuted in 1983.
Etim Esin went on to play in Belgium for a number of teams most notably Lokeren and Lierse, but his hot-headedness and poor attitude made him get into a lot of trouble, which affected even his international career.
Apart from minor spats with his coaches, he got into major trouble in the 1990s when he was accused of raping and impregnating a white girl in Belgium
The case that followed that grave accusation shoved his career into a freefall and even his enormous talent could not halt the slide.
He escaped home from Belgium and insisted on his innocence. Although he was eventually vindicated when the white girl gave birth to a baby with no traces of black blood, the stigma never went away.
His once promising career crumbled and the accusation of a crime as heinous as rape proved too heavy for Esin to recover from.
There seemed to be no way back for the stylish midfielder once fondly called 'the African Maradona' as he was not able to play at the highest level again until he retired.
Painful that we never got to see how good he would have become for himself and for the country. Some of those who watched him play argue that he was better than Jay-Jay Okocha. We will never know that now, will we?
Etim Esin is still alive and should be 52 this year, but the major lesson in his story is there for us to see and learn from.
A good attitude is very important to success. Without it, even the best of talents can waste away. Village people are not always behind your troubles, your greatest enemy might just be your poor attitude.
