⭐3.5/5
📍warung happy coffee and eatery, bali
☕brunching aloft jam-packed and gentrified streets along jalan sahadewa, with a cup of cappuccino and a plate of eggs benedict.
the cappuccino was a 4/5 and an instant hit for me. it was smooth, milky and frothy.
a personal preference: they could've cut the muffin in half so the ratio of dough to bacon & eggs would be more proportionate in the mouth. the poached eggs were inconsistent - 1 came out mid runny & 1 overcooked. 2.5/5.
however, it had an interesting localized adaptation. they replaced the original rocket salad with a local variation: sweet potato leaves. in addition, the thick gooey kecap manis elevated the tastebud and added a rich sweetness & complexity. +0.5

- This @lens/t2world piece is a redacted letter from my old tinyletter, scuffed out from archive.ph.
When tinyletter shuttered, the announcement slipped away from me, and I felt a pang of loss and grief for the private tiny letters I had lost—and all her accompanying girlhood and its past selves. I brought this back to life in hopes of claiming back ownership of my "identities" from web2 socials in order to rebuild my self-sovereignty. Even now, I still resonate deeply with the girl from 2015.
Here's hoping to more writing and building my own tiny, liminal spaces.🌱

📖 masuji ibuse, black rain
📆 october 21, 2023
⭐ 4/5
💭 Black Rain shows the aftermath of August 6 1945’s nuclear bombing in Hiroshima. Throughout the book, the residents gradually makes sense of what happened; it was a war bomb but unlike any other bomb that came before.

📖 wang yin, a summer day in the company of ghosts
📆 july 9, 2023
⭐ 3/5
💭 as the poems were ordered in reverse chronological order, the book started out strong before it fizzled out at the end. i do think it needed tighter curation, where instead of ordering them by chronology it could be instead thematically arranged. but then again, i am just a mere reader.
in a way, i turned into this book because i wanted to brush up on my chinese literacy skills. there were several pieces where he was borrowing from classical chinese poetry and experimenting with it by suffusing his voice and contemporary zeitgeist. however, my chinese literacy skills was limited so i was unable to fully appreciate them in the original version.
my three favourite from his collection would be:
1. 你对我说,怀念那些暖慢的旧日子, You Tell Me You Miss Those Slow Paced Days Of The Past
2. 给彭波而十岁生日, For Peng Bo Er On Her Tenth Birthday
3. 喝过咖啡的下午, The Afternoon We Had Coffee

- @stani.lens Hmm perhaps, fostering great content (be it art, story, games) from their community and from their team?
Each of the brand actively engages their community to build up their own messaging through creative storytelling, empathetic narrative & lore/world building (...)
I think its interesting to watch how they evolve organically and inorganically over time.
- hello strangers, this is disconcerting to say the least.
imagine the joys and horrors to grow up on the internet in the 90s and 00s; to experience the magical awe from running down the various rabbit holes. from neopets to geocities to tumblrs and now to a modern 2020s era of politically-imbued social media dapps where data centralization is key. this is an ongoing experiment, I suppose, to test the boundaries of lemon8 (the young kid in the block ironically still representing the upper echelons of web2 centralization) to lens.xyz (on the flipside, standing for the ethos of decentralization – compostable social graph data owned by the creator).
On lens.xyz 🌱, this might be how it works?
hi my name is nicole. I am in my late 20s. i read somewhere someone called web3 as “chaos on chains” and I think it perfectly encapsulated the volatility of my past years working in crypto.
fundamentally a techno-optimist at heart, my curiosities lie in imagining how society can leverage technologies to move from a narrative of capitalism realism towards a narrative of positive-sum sufficiency through sustainable scaling and accessibility to all.
interested in exploring the optimistic idealistic rabbit hole of web3 to build infrastructures and value systems for the masses, away from the crypto trading (arguably, gambling) and get rich quick schemes common in crypto CEX. other curiosities: reading and experimenting with different ways of thinking and perceiving, exploring alternative ways of living and working through digital nomading and DAO contributions.
I suppose to conclude this cyclical start: welcome to a non-linear sequel of my journey on the internet.
“I live(d) on the internet. I mean how wondrous and tortuous it must to be dedicate a whole life of emotions and thoughts on the world wide web; to read the girl I used to be and am still is through these glaring screens. I crawl through my blogs - the public, the shared and even the tiny ones residing in the secret nooks and crannies of the online world - and watch as the girl from before evolves right in front of my eye. Disconcerting to speak as if she was gone; as if some magic or online trick could make her disappear into the backlinks and piles of caches and cookies - for she never does.“ nicole, 2015
