- @ryanfox.lens wrote a fantastic post thread about the future of social media, one part focused on music: https://lenster.xyz/posts/0x016264-0x072e .
One idea Ryan wrote about is the app "**SoundOff** ... Users compete to create the best 5-song mixes ...". Hopefully someone will build the app, in the meantime we can start with
`create the best 5-song playlist` on @oohlala.lens and share it on lens. #5SongMix

- I know I go on about this stuff and I apologize to anyone bored by it but I’ve been analyzing social networks since 2004, before we even understood them to be “social networks.” I understand incentives, moats, feedback loops, flywheels, etc…This is not guesswork, it’s 19 years of watching networks compete and determining why winners won and losers failed. I firmly believe Lens has the best structural model for our future. It’s obvious to me. So I’m sorry if you’ve heard this before but I’m going to keep going on and on about this until stuff actually gets built (and I know it will):
NFTs enable social networks.
They are data in a shared database.
Anyone can take that data and build an app which uses it.
If you reverse this stack it becomes infinitely easier to build everything:
Anyone can build any app.
Put the data for that app in the shared database.
Social networks can form around the data.
***********************
Data Creation
***********************
Social networks require data creation to survive. To get and retain more users you need more data being created. This is difficult. Most people on a social network never (or rarely) create content. This is known as the 90-9-1 Rule:
90% of users lurk
9% contribute a little
1% account for almost all of the content
TikTok has incredible solutions for this: Stitches, Duets, etc. Remixing existing data makes it easier for users to create.
The apps on Lens so far have been mostly focused on getting web2-type creators to create data. “Here’s my photo, here’s my music. Please pay me and you get a digital receipt.”
The creators here trying to break that mold (myself included!) are doing so haphazardly. In a database where anyone can create any type of data, the creators here are creating data in their own formats. I’m using my collected posts differently than @arterlioz.lens is which is different than how @chaoticmonk.lens is which is different than how @jessyjeanne.lens is.
Standards enable faster creation:
When Instagram created tools for square photos + filters people were able to quickly create data in that format.
When Instagram enabled carousels, the entire user base was able to create that data quickly.
When Instagram created Stories, the entire user base was able to create that data quickly.
When Instagram created Reels, the entire user base was able to create that data quickly.
Instagram doesn’t allow users to upload any random data, they create the tools first. The tools determine what the data looks like. A Reel is a very specific type of data in a database, for example.
In my opinion, almost all of web3 suffers this problem. Web3 is focused on creating the data first and figuring out the tools later. I’m trying to point out that doing the opposite will achieve faster, greater results.
Create the tool first.
Use NFTs as the data.
Reddit Avatars are a great example of building the tool first.
***********************
Collects
***********************
Right now collecting posts here is like Facebook + Patreon. It’s mildly interesting.
Remember the 90-9-1 rule?
Data Sovereignty is niche. The 1% care. The 90% don’t care about the database they’re using, they want to consume engaging content.
Lens’ Super Power:
Collects are a data creation flywheel!
Collecting is a new form of data/content creation. Lens’ biggest advantage by far has been almost completely ignored to date.
Collecting turns the 90% into creators. Incentivizing collecting means more data is created, more users become creators, and more creators are incentivized to create on Lens.
**************************
I beg any and all devs to please think of this stack when building here:
-Build an app with very specific data.
-Use NFTs (collects) as the database.
Incentivize collecting by utilizing the collects as data in your app. Usage, creation, and adoption will skyrocket for those who focus on the “collecting” side of the creator/collector equation.

- In sushi & anime we believe 🇯🇵
- The value prop of web3 gaming is not: owning a collectible or composable sword.
Taking that sword from game to game will be possible but in practice more rare than people may suppose.
**The value in web3 gaming is the same as everything else in web3: Collaboration **
The example I give normies all the time is Fortnite: right now it’s up to Epic Games to make all the data in the Fortnite database useful and valuable. It’s up to Epic to create new seasons, new skins, new tournaments, new rules, etc.
If they start moving data to a blockchain it allows others to collaborate and make the data useful and valuable. Anyone else can create with the public database and the value still accrues to the underlying game.
If Fortnite data becomes public it means anyone could create:
-skins for top 10 players
-digital fashion empires
-digital fashion collabs (Nike, RTFKT, Adidas, Tiffany, etc)
-tournaments based on stats (the fastest killers, most accurate shooters, the longest survivors, etc)
-rewards/coupons from others
—Starbucks could give free coffee to people who wear a Starbucks skin on International Coffee Day
-apps for Fortnite players
-media based around the data analysis (Sports Center for Fortnite)
-private communities in other apps
Fortnite would become more valuable from more people accessing and making use of the data. It would become a platform upon which anyone can create and publish.
It’s ridiculous to me the amount of bad takes I hear on a daily basis, especially on NFT-specific podcasts and Twitter, about web3 gaming as if it’s a completely new thing and no one can figure it out.
The superpower of web3 is collaboration. It allows anything to become a platform. It allows people to build upon your thing. This applies to everything blockchains touch: money, media, games, supply chains, etc.
If you’re building anything in web3 I’d highly recommend to start your thinking with these principles in mind.
If you’re thinking of building another web2 clone on Lens, for example, please don’t. Please build something web2 could never do. Please build something focused on collaboration.

- Last Mile DeFi 03: Education as a catalyzer of mass adoption with Camila Ramos
gm! On episode 03 of Last Mile DeFi, we speak with Camila Ramos where we explore Cami's journey towards becoming a developer, the importance of equitable access to education, and why Cami is driven by leveraging crypto rails to deliver financial freedom.
Born in Colombia, and brought up in California, Cami’s journey towards becoming a developer began at an early age when she took an hour-long coding course in high school. At the same time, she also saw the inequity in accessing computer science education for black and latino students at her high school. This then kicked off her journey towards unlocking more educational opportunities for underrepresented communities through her writing and content she produces.
Cami’s north star is led by bringing crypto to those who need it most, particularly those in the global south. She sees an opportunity for crypto to provide enhanced financial infrastructure and drive more prosperity for Latin Americans, rather than seemingly futile applications that often times get a lot of attention in mainstream crypto that don’t provide practical use-cases for whose who have most to benefit most from crypto - points she discusses in her piece “The Deadend of Eurocentric Crypto”. This year Cami is focused on not only researching where crypto’s key intervention points lie, but also working towards building and implementing real solutions that drastically enhance people’s lives.
We also explored what real world adoption Cami has seen to date in Latin America and why she believes particular use-cases have taken off in the region and what we can do to nurture more adoption through creating better-designed user flows. One of the most interesting points of conversation is where we explore the questions around whether it is the job of incumbent crypto players to expand into the LatAm region or whether we could see more home-grown projects emerge locally.

- Another case in point. What has everyone collected my post about bots for?! At a point where this gets loads of collects and an otherwise-unreleased Calibre song that @sameold.lens offers us only gets a few, something's gone a bit wrong.
OK, granted you can collect that post of mine for free, but it speaks to how Lens needs to get past people hoarding NFTs via collect for no apparent reason. I assume the reason may be people/bots trying to inflate engagement thinking an airdrop is imminent. If that is the case though that's a real shame, because this platform could be an incredible space for conversation and culture. The potential here is astronomical, but I can't go to our label or artist clients and show them this as a place to invest time and money right now. They won't look and see all the possibilities; they'll just see weak, low quality engagement, and move on. That's a massive shame, as in our view Lens could play a HUGE part in the future of music.
- Massive shout outs and kudos to @wagmi.lens and @nader.lens for being excellent supporters for #Lensverse builders and just overall great human beings.
When we first started building @lens_trens.lens we thought we'd be on our own with a public protocol and an API but we were pleased to discover the supportive team behind all of it.

- ARB distribution model was designed by Nansen 🔵 🦅
+2,300,000 addresses bridged to Arbitrum before the snapshot.
Online 625,143 were eligible for ARB. Only around 30%!
What can we learn from their report?
5 key take-aways so you don't get excluded from airdrops ⚡
1/5
Eligibility Criteria:
- Conducted transactions: number, value, and time thresholds
- Arbitrum Nova: bridging & conducted transactions
- Dapps and Governance activity
- Liquidity providing
💡 Take-away: the more different activities, the better. Be active!
2/5
USD Value. I know this is a given, but it's important to stress out.
• The majority of wallets transact on small USD amounts
• The majority of wallets got small airdrops (USD value terms)
💡 Take-away: more volume = bigger airdrop. But you didn't need to be a whale to get it!
3/5
The number of transactions
• The majority of the wallets made 1-2 transactions (1M+ wallets)
• Only 100k wallets made 50-100 transactions
Median = 3
Average = 28
💡 Take-away: more transactions = more valuable airdrop.
Become a recurring user.
4/5
Sybil wallets:
• The Arbitrum Foundation wanted to exclude sybil wallets from getting the $ARB airdrop
• Sybil wallets = wallets with similar/fake activity, with the pure intention of hunting for an airdrop
• 172k wallets excluded
💡 Take-away: be user, not a "hunter"
5/5
Negative criteria ⚠️
This is a new concept: some actions subtracted points, i.e. they hurt the user's individual points to get ARB.
These users got less ARB:
• All transactions in a 48h period
• Interacted with only 1 smart contract
• Low ETH balance in Snapshot day
There's a lot more data in their official report.

- ZkEVM (Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine) is a protocol that enables the execution of smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain with increased privacy and security.
ZkEVM is based on zero-knowledge proof technology, which allows users to prove the validity of a computation without revealing the inputs or outputs of that computation. This means that the contents of a smart contract and the transactions that execute it can be kept private, while still being validated by the network.
One of the key benefits of ZkEVM is that it allows for the creation of private smart contracts, which can be useful for applications such as supply chain management, voting systems, and financial applications where privacy and security are critical. ZkEVM also allows for the creation of more complex smart contracts that were previously too expensive to execute due to gas costs, as the zero-knowledge proofs can reduce the amount of computation needed.
ZkEVM is still a relatively new technology and is currently being developed by a number of teams in the Ethereum ecosystem. As more research and development is done, it has the potential to significantly enhance the privacy and security of smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain.
