Awhile ago a meme told me to google "Florida man" followed by my birth month and day. So instead I used 10 random dates and every one of the searches came up with a laugh-out-loud headline in the first few results. My favorite: "Florida man arrested for trying to get alligator drunk."
So then I wondered if other states would return similar results, so I replaced "Florida" with five other states with the same dates each and the crimes reported there were (to my ear) not funny at all.
So why is that? Is it an editorial bias? Do Florida criminals prefer "funnier" crimes? Do Florida police focus on bizarre criminality?
