- A few weeks ago, we unveiled the new Orb new logo in time for the sweet swag at @club/afk Berlin.
But why did we change this logo, and what does it mean?
We’re breaking down the pieces that make this logo, and the meaning behind each piece:
The Badge
Communities run on social currency, and as a social app we understand how important status can be.
This badge shape represents and recognizes a user's contribution to the orb ecosystem and community.
Profile badges are something we’ll be unveiling soon. Watch for more announcements on this 👀
The Circle
Orb is known to build with its creators and users at the center of the experience.
The Circle represents the user at the center for Orb, because that’s where our focus is for the app.
The Rounded Square
Like the town square or the college quad, the rounded Square represents Orb Clubs, a meeting place for all.
Building a consumer app, we acknowledge the diverse values users are bringing with them. This is why it’s important for us to offer our users their own space for their interests & connections.
The Gear
This one is for the builders and the users working together to make the slickest user experience in crypto.
The final shape of the logo is the open gear, representing the features not yet built. Early adopters still have the opportunity to shape what the app will look & feel like in the future.
We hope this thread sheds some light on the new logo, and that you’ll give Orb a try if you haven’t already.
We think it’s one of the easiest ways to tap into the @lens/lensprotocol ecosystem and tap into the new creator economy.

Day 10
- ### **🌟 Three key elements needed for Web3 Social to go mainstream: 🌟**
**Low Friction 🤠**
We need to make signing up and using the app as seamless as possible. While approving transactions can be a challenge, reducing friction is crucial to keeping users engaged and excited about the platform.
**Unique Value Proposition 😇**
To attract mainstream users, we need to offer something that Web2 platforms can't. While crypto enthusiasts will join Lens for various blockchain-centric reasons, mainstream users need compelling incentives. This could be micropayment earnings, easy tipping features, or other innovative capabilities enabled by blockchain technology.
**Ongoing Innovation and Excitement 🤖**
Consistent improvements and a roadmap of exciting features are essential to maintain user interest and growth. With many innovative apps entering the market, we must continuously promise and deliver more to keep users engaged. Let's outline cool developments coming over the next 12-18 months to give our community reasons to stay tuned.
- As emotional stakeholders in the brand I think it's time we had an open dialogue about the new logo...
Firstly we can all agree that we want @lens/orb to do well and as such at this pivotal point of scaling I feel that the brand direction is a KEY part in achieving that.
I understand we're yet to fully know the reason and rationale behind this change in branding, but at this stage I find it hard to believe that this new direction will achieve what both the brand-and us the stakeholders-believe is the true potential of the app.
Of course everyone will have their reasons and opinions; for me it's not that I think the new logo is bad, it's just that I feel the last logo was better placed to move the brand forward. Here are a few reasons why:
- **Little explanation needed**. The old app logo needed no explanation whatsoever, and incorporated both literal interpration (with the O) and symbolic representation (the dot in orbit) of the brand. This new one does not achieve this in any way.
- **Simple, clear + unambiguous.** With the previous logo one quick glance at my phone was all it took for me to realise it was an Orb notification. The clean semiotics made it very easy for me to identify when compared to other apps. This new one I get confused that it's a Samsung update icon or alternatively a Google app notification.
- **Translates well into different sizes + mediums**. The past logo works well in all sizes; regardless of how small its still very distinguishable. It also allowed animation in a way the embellished and built upon the brand story or Orb. The new logo very quickly loses ambiguity when scaled down or at distance.
As understand that as I work as a Brand Strategist, maybe my observations might be too granular, so would be very keen to hear the thoughts of others:
**What do you all think of the new Orb branding direction? Let me know in the comments **
Also please note that this is not a dig at the Orb team in anyway, I think you guys are doing an incredible job. I just want the best for brand and to encourage open dialogue as I feel that getting this right is the key to scaling-which is what we all want 📈
- I think an exciting part of creating is that you don't know what's going to turn out. Sooo I ended up experimenting w the different variations that came out for while making this piece and I put them together in this lil gif.
Also I was reflecting on how a fantasy creature came to be trapped in a digital void. In a way i feel it can represent our souls in our bodies or even in corrupted systems that hurt us.
.. if you are into spirituality and all that ofc
do you enjoy these types of animated pieces more or the static versions to check on details?
💫There are still 2 editions of this fairy that can be released!! 💫🦋
- This has to be one of my favorite pieces so far, love this one. 🦌
- Who will collect the first edition 👀
- I just don't get the thinking behind go-to-market strategies like Taiko.
Why burn so many potential users, just to favour the team and a few VC's to dump at TGE? Seems very short-sighted.
- We had a great time meeting old and new friends and sharing a word or two, hope you did as well ❤️
