- Book Club: The Order Of Time by Carlo Rovelli - Part 2, The End Of The Present
Disruptors and curious minds, book lovers, readers! Welcome to book club.
Benjamin Franklin said once you lose it, you’ll never find it again. Theophrastrus said it was the most valuable thing you can spend. Pericles said it was the wisest counsellor of all. Oscar Wilde said punctuality steals it away.
Turns out they were all wrong.
Ladies and gentlemen, Albert Einstein. “The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”
Or,
“Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute.”
Isaac Newton said, “Absolute, true and mathematical time, of itself, and from its own nature flows equably without relation to anything external.”
Aristotle said, “Remember that time slurs over everything, let all deeds fade, blurs all writings and kills all memories. Exempt are only those which dig into the hearts of men by love.”
Time really is all we have. And in this months book club, we're talking about it in more detail than we ever thought possible. We're reading:
- The Order of Time, by Carlo Rovelli.

It’s one of nature’s most profound, awe-inspiring, displays; a reminder of our fragility, our insignificance, the fleeting beauty of our existence.
Most never see them.
On Friday, however, the universe hiccoughed.
The Earth was hit by the biggest solar storm in over 10 years. The Northern Lights were seen as far south as Florida.
This made me happy. What I saw on social media and TV, and heard on the radio, made me sad:
“The best way to see the northern lights is through your phone screen.”
Really?
We were being 'advised' to live through this once-in-a-lifetime event via our phone screens. Screens detect the light better. Apparently.
It made me sad... because I foolishly thought the best way to see the Northern Lights was with your eyes.<https://paragraph.xyz/@markmywords/tech-v-mother-nature>

**INT. A SUBURBAN LIVING ROOM, LONDON – MORNING**
What you notice about this home is how terrifyingly normal it is. **A WOMAN** (45) who's spent the last 724 nights looking after her small children sits at a cheap IKEA table staring intently at the Coinmarketcap tab on her laptop screen.
A **CHILD** walks into the room dragging a teddybear and a fire truck.
The woman closes the laptop.
We see **TEARS** as her daughter runs to hug her.
**INT. AN OFFICE, LOCATION UNDISCLOSED – DAY**
This must be the most boring office space in the world.
A sly-faced **FTX Twitter Account** sits at a table reading ‘**The World’s Shittest Joke Book**’. Sitting opposite, combing his stupid hair, is **SAM BANKMAN-FRIED**. Also at the table are an avatar of **CHANPENG ZHAO**, who is really in Decentraland playing Whack-a-Mole, and **CAROLINE ELLISON**.

- The Politics Of Deep Fakes!
Disruptors and curious minds!
Our guest is Senthil Nayagam. As Studio Head at Muonium Studios, Senthil makes deep fakes. His company was behind bringing Muthuvel Karunanidhi, former leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, back to life for a book launch earlier this year.
As humans, once we see something, we can’t unsee it. It’s like when an attorney says something that must be “stricken from the record” - are we capable of striking something from memory? So many defaults at work (social, ego, inertia, etc) the influence of deep fakes can be hard to purge from our collective knowledge.
Please Enjoy The Show.
We'll be talking about:
What is a deep fake? When does the boundary between deep fake and mimicry blur?
Is it a deep fake in marketing?
Google calls it synthetic content and asking for advertisers to disclose it. What are the consequences if they don’t?
“How do we prevent IG from becoming a real life SNL?”
Speak us through the Muthuvel Karunanidhi deep fake - what was the goal? What was the process of creating it? Challenges etc..
Who owns the rights of the dead?
What’s the tech behind it? What tools are you using?
Is there a way to disassemble or scramble an unauthorized posted video? Imagine we all have something called a key. Think of it as the digital version of a NIL release. I know we have trouble preventing unauthorized use of more simple things like music, but stay with me. If there was a law that forced all platforms to only post content that includes keys of the people in the video. Could there be a way to automate the takedown
Game engines…
Coordinators vs developers?
Deep fakes are almost nefarious by nature. Let’s discuss the positive, cultural plus - where is the upside? What do they bring to society and culture that wasn’t possible before?
Fan fiction
Deep fakes and entertainment
Consent, privacy and laws
Connecting the dots, human-centric design
How can the average person distinguish between real footage and a deepfake? Are there any tools or indicators to look out for
How can blockchain help audiences understand what is an authentic representation of a person or an unauthorized fake?

- What Happens When A.I. Meets Education and Behavioural Design?
Disruptors and curious minds! Today's show is all about AI, education and behavioural design.
What is behavioural design? Can AI help you learn, sharpen your reasoning, change your behaviours?
Can AI boost your performance or analyse the cognitive processes needed to make decisions and solve problems?
Justin Germishuys is an experienced learning and behaviour designer using AI tools to enhance reasoning and decision-making. He’s the founder of Germinotion.
We’ll be talking about Ethical behaviour design, conceptual analysis and the AI tools people can use to reason, solve problems, and make decisions.
We'll unpack educational design and how you can use AI to augment your thinking.
Please Enjoy The Show!

- Book Club: Clear Thinking, Part 1
Disruptors and Curious minds… CEOS, founders, professionals and book lovers! Welcome to the Thinking On Paper Book Club!
This month we’re reading Clear Thinking by Farnam Street founder and The Knowledge Project host Shane Parrish.
Why are we reading Clear Thinking?
Some call the book a must read for intentional living and decision making. All we know is this book can change lives, careers, relationships and mindsets.
Here’s what you can expect:
🧠 You'll Unlock Your Cognitive Potential: Parrish provides practical tools to harness the power of your mind and make better decisions. We love frameworks and strategies. Universal Truths, Actionable insight.
🧠 You'll Navigate Life with Intention: Oh those defaults! Be gone! The ego default, the social default, the inertia default and the emotion default. Clear thinking will help you recognise these biological defaults and give you the skills to override them.
🧠 You'll Enhance Decision-Making: What are you going to do with all this clear thinking? We’ll unpack the reality of better decision making at work, home and everywhere else you need to engage thinking before you jump head first into the fire.
🧠 You'll Override Your Mental Models: Parrish uses engaging narratives and stories to explain the mental models that hamper your progress, curtail your fun and put a million spanners in your works in progress! Recency bias, Action Bias, the Affect Heuristic, Ambiguity Effect, Anchoring Bias, Attentional Bias, Authority Bias, Availability Heuristic and the Bandwagon Effect. You’ll learn how to notice them and send them packing.
🤯 AI says Shane Parrish’s “Clear Thinking” is more than a book; it’s a catalyst for change. It’s an essential read for anyone looking to live a more deliberate and fulfilling life. The algorithm recommends you dive into this book, then you’ll emerge from the waters with a clearer, more focused mind ready to tackle the world’s complexities. We don’t always agree with AI, but we’ll take that.
