- **Artists, Biz Dev, and web3**
I listened to a great @buttrfly.lens Spaces discussion this morning on the challenges of being an artist from: @linea_platform.lens @0xtommythomas.lens @jessyjeanne.lens @cmn__.lens @mchx_.lens @datartist.lens
One theme I heard loud and clear throughout was the burden being felt by artists who felt they now have to learn how to operate a business in addition to mastering their artistry and technical skills. While I would always suggest that learning business is better than not, I thought I'd perhaps shed just a little light on why this feels the way it does right now and what we can possibly look forward to.
Art is not created in a vaccuum. It isn't made from nothing (w/rare exceptions). Canvas portraits required the invention of the blank canvas. Photographers required the invention of cameras and film. Music videos required the right combination of tools and broadcast circumstances like MTV. Artists use existing tools to create art. Similarly, web2/Instagram/TikTok/DeviantArt/etc give users tools to create.
web3 is a essentially a blank database. There's nothing here, yet. This space requires artists to come with their already-made creations, to this new place where the primary app is a marketplace and almost zero distribution tools exist. Almost everyone here is creating art using non-web3 tools and then publishing onchain. It follows, then, that the primary skills to being successful in a marketplace is one's ability to market and sell.
There are plenty of artists using Instagram and TikTok who don't know how to market themselves or their work but they know how to create with those tools. It's not hard to create a TikTok video of a beautiful painting with trending music. The app then allows the artist's fans to do most of the work for them. Fans can distribute, collaborate, interact, and spread the word all on an artist's behalf. This is missing in web3, but it's coming!
One of the core benefits to publishing onchain is that anyone can make your data valuable. This means you can leverage the entire user base to help you build. It feels difficult right now because it is! We say it all the time, but it's true: we're early. There are so few apps right now to help, but over time this will resolve itself.
So what's a burdened artist to do? I would encourage anyone who feels overwhelmed at (or turned off by) the thought of learning how to market themselves to do one of two things:
//1: Reach out and be vocal about what you need. Talk to devs, or post your thoughts openly:
"I need an app that lets me create like this..."
"I need an app that lets my fans do this...."
"Hey I see you're building an app/video game/event ticket/music album/gallery/etc, is it possible my work (and others like it) would fit in?"
Find trends like ChatGPT/Dating/Design/Messaging apps and ask devs to help incorporate them into apps which are based on your data's needs: A stable diffusion app which lets fans play with your art and a dating/friend-finding app which utilizes swiping left/right on art are both totally possible.
//2: Sit tight and watch for these apps to emerge. Be open to new tools which use your art, and be open to new tools which create new forms of art. These apps are emerging now ( @lenspostxyz.lens ) and will almost certainly continue to explode in growth. As more apps are able to use your art the easier things will become.
This may feel like one of the hardest times to sell your art onchain, but the truth is it's easier now than it was in 2018 and will likely continue to get easier and easier as more is built. Until then, keep creating and don't get discouraged by "the business"!

- This isn’t the next Facebook.
This is a social operating system.
Every existing app and platform can already benefit from becoming Lens-compatible. When developers “port” their apps over it’s positive-sum for everyone. More Data + More Users = More Value.
To those building natively here:
There is room for apps of all scales and purposes, similar to a desktop or mobile operating system. Some apps here will become giants akin to Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, or Adobe Photoshop—universal platforms that become integral to the user's experience. These 'giant' apps are used by virtually everyone because of their broad utility and the network effects that come with widespread adoption.
Meanwhile, other apps will carve out their own niches, much like CCleaner, Notepad++, VLC, or WinZip. These are the 'utility' apps that perform specific tasks exceptionally well. They may not be universally known but they garner loyal user bases because they fill a need, solve a problem, or simply do their job better than any other app out there.
I encourage every dev right now to take a moment and look at the apps installed on their device. Lens has the capacity to host a similar diversity of applications, each contributing to the overall “Social Operating System” experience in its own unique way. Rather than compete with Facebook I would recommend building with the “Operating System” framework in mind and trying to solve your own niche problem/task first.
Not everything has to compete with Facebook’s scale!
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
A fun brainstorming game to play
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Find an App or System Setting in your device’s OS and then ask ChatGPT for the Social OS equivalent.
Use this prompt:
I'm building apps on Lens (a new social networking protocol) and I'm told to think of it not as a Facebook competitor but as a new Social Operating System. They say there's room for apps at all levels, the same as a desktop or mobile operating system. So in that context, what would be the “Google Maps” of this OS?
* Social Network Navigation App: This app would map out the social connections between users, helping them navigate through their relationships. It could provide insights into how different users are connected, recommend potential new connections based on shared interests or mutual friends, and suggest paths for reaching out to new people.
* Event Discovery and Navigation App: This app could help users find and navigate to events within the social network. Just as Google Maps can help you find physical events and navigate to them, this app could help you find online events happening within the social network and guide you on how to participate.
* Content Discovery and Navigation App: This app would guide users through the vast amount of content available in the network. It could use algorithms to recommend content based on users' preferences and behavior, help users explore new types of content, and provide tools to navigate through different content categories.
* Trend Mapping App: This app could track and visualize trends within the social network. It could show what topics are currently popular, how trends evolve over time, and how they spread across the network.
What would be the Logic Pro?
* Social Media Music Studio: This app would allow users to create, edit, and mix music or audio tracks directly within the social OS. Users could then share their creations on their social profiles or collaborate with others. Features might include various sound samples, mixing tools, and the ability to record directly into the app.
* Podcast Creation App: This app would provide all the tools necessary to record, edit, and publish podcasts. It could also integrate with various social platforms to promote episodes, engage with listeners, and gather analytics.
* Audio Storytelling App: This app could provide a platform for users to create and share audio stories or spoken word content. It could offer tools for adding sound effects, music, and other audio enhancements.
* Collaborative Music App: This app would allow users to collaborate on music projects, providing a shared space where they can contribute tracks, mix together, and share their creations.
What would be the utility apps?
* Privacy Management App
* Content Scheduling App
* Analytics App
* Curation App
* Identity Verification App
* Anti-Harassment App
* Cross-Platform Search App
There’s a ton of opportunity here to build social apps which can sustain your lifestyle without needing to reach 1 billion users.

**Yellowstone National Park** is located in the western United States, primarily in the state of Wyoming, and it is known for its geothermal features, including hot springs, geysers, and mudpots. The park is home to over 10,000 geothermal features, including over 500 geysers and around 300 hot springs.
The hot springs in Yellowstone are some of the largest and most colorful in the world. The most famous of these is the Grand Prismatic Spring, which is the third largest hot spring in the world and is known for its brilliant colors. Other notable hot springs in the park include the Morning Glory Pool, the Sapphire Pool, and the Fountain Paint Pot.
It's important to note that while the hot springs are beautiful, they can also be dangerous. The water in the hot springs can reach temperatures over 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius), and the ground around the springs can be unstable.
**How cool is that?! Thank you ChatGPT ^.^**
I also would add, when you are planning to visit Yellowstone (as well as any other national park in the US) it’s a good idea to plan well in advance, cuz the later you book the less available accommodation you’ll find and the options would be very expensive, plus it is busy there in summer. If you can’t find anything in Wyoming, It’s an option to book something in Idaho or in Montana, these states are equally close to the park too.
Yellowstone covers a huge territory and it’s possible to drive in through 5 entrances, located on the opposite sides of the park =) so you might want to plan ahead the places to visit.🌟My top picks:
🌟Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone: A stunning canyon with colorful rocks and a waterfall that plunges 308 feet (94 meters) into the canyon.
🌟Grand Prismatic Spring: there’s a hiking trail just on top of Grand prismatic🔥🦋; visit the overlook too: you will see the whole thing from there just like in Nat Geo photo!
🌟Hayden Valley: Excellent place to see wildlife, you will see many bisons there!
🌟Old Faithful: One of the most famous geysers in the world, erupting with steam and hot water every 60 to 110 minutes.
Find your favorite places there by exploring the park, and enjoy your trip!
P.S. let me know if you’re interested in this format of posts?✍️
