- Driving the Carretera Austral in Chile was such a rewarding and interesting experience! Did you know that before the road was finished in the 1980ies, the region could only be reached by ships that only ran once per month? 😲

I didn’t get to post any yummy GMs for the past 10 days as Cordt and me got robbed in São Paulo last week and they took my phone 😣
But it’s very fitting that the last picture I have in my camera roll was of us enjoying some of the amazing food from all around the world that we found in Brazil (and of course a lot of amazing Brazilian food as well!). This was just 30min before the robbery 😳 Even though this incident was scary and lead to a lot of work for us, we’re very glad that we’re both unharmed, and we still enjoyed São Paulo a lot!

Peruvian food is one of my favorites, and within that, causa is always a winner (along with ceviche, of course!). Who doesn’t like fish with potatoes and avocado and lime or lemon? 😋Here’s a recipe so you can make it at home: https://www.eatperu.com/causa-de-atun/
- I hate early mornings, but even I have to admit that the sunrises on the trails are worth it 😬

Today’s dish is brought to you by the Lofoten - a breathtakingly beautiful island group in Norway 🇳🇴 the most famous dish from there is the Stockfish - a type of cod that is dried by cold air and the sun (unsalted!). I have to say I didn’t quite enjoy the taste, but @lens/cordt dug in 😋
If you ever get your hands on Stockfish, here’s a recipe: https://theforkedspoon.com/salt-cod-stew-bacalao/

Taiwanese street food is a dream come true - for me (& @lens/cordt), but i dare say for food lovers in general. And one of the most popular dishes are Gua Bao: steamed bread buns with different meat fillings, topped with coriander and ground peanuts. I could eat these all day!
If you’re now also craving Bao, but don’t have a Taiwanese restaurant close by, here’s a great recipe: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/steamed-bao-buns

It’s already Friday again so that means: book review🥁 Today: “West with Giraffes” by Lynda Rutledge (7/10)
If you know me, you know I love historical fiction - books where I can learn something about the era they are set in. That’s why i thoroughly enjoyed “West with Giraffes”, although it took a few dozen pages to really warm up to the book. Set in the US between the two world wars, it tells the true story of two giraffes that were transported by truck all across the US to reach their destination: the San Diego Zoo.
Very fitting that I could read this while in Texas earlier this year, enjoying a real Texas barbecue 😋
Wishing you a great weekend filled with engaging books and delicious food!
- I could have just stood and watched the glacier all day!

I personally know no one who doesn’t like Mexican food 😋 and even though I love it, too, I had never tried “Mole” before visiting Yucatán. And I have to be honest, I didn’t very much enjoy it 🫣
The Yucatecan mole is made with the dried red pepper of Yucatan which is roasted until black and then ground and made into a paste. To my taste, the sauce had too strong of a bitter and heavy undertone... Do you like mole?
- It was a very long journey from Mexico City to Patagonia, but nothing beats waking up to views like these 😍
- Gm foodies 🥃❄️🧊Have you ever tasted glacier ice?
A few weeks ago, @lens/cordt and me visited the San Rafael glacier in the North Patagonian ice field. As a part of the tour, we got to taste Calafate liquor on Glacier ice (fished out of the water by our tour guide 👀). The Calafate is a berry similar to the blueberry that can only be found in Patagonia 🫐- I’m not sure whether it was the berry or the ice, but the drink was 👌

As it was a rainy weekend in Buenos Aires, @lens/cordt and me went on a small museum marathon. Here’s a best of - wishing you an artsy start into the week 🧑🎨
- On weekends in Argentina we’re busy sampling wine 😋🍷
- Gm foodies! 🇮🇳🍚Have you ever heard of Sadya?
Last year, Cordt and me were very lucky to be in Kerala during Onam, the traditional harvest festival, and we got to eat Sadya (several times! 😋). Sadya means “banquet” in Malayalam, and is a true feast served during celebrations and on Onam. It’s eaten on a banana leaf and consists of up to 48 vegetarian side dishes along with rice.
Can you guess how many times Cordt asked for seconds? 😅

Have you already eaten Singaporean Chicken Rice? When I first had it, it was a revelation - so simple, but so delicious!
When we were in Singapore, Cordt and me paired it with Xialongbao and fried dumplings, because… why not? 😋
If you want to try making it at home, here’s a great recipe: https://thewoksoflife.com/hainanese-chicken-rice/

What’s your favorite breakfast food?
In my opinion, it doesn’t get much better than a good omelette with cheese, sourdough and salad on the side 😋 and of course a beautiful view is also an integral component 😍

This might be quite controversial: would you eat whale meat? 👀
Last year, Cordt and me spent an extend period in Norway, on the beautiful Lofoten islands. I knew that eating whale had a long tradition in Norway, and I am very curious when it comes to tasting foods I have never tried before - so Cordt and me went for it. It tasted surprisingly similar to red meat, albeit a bit more salty.
However, learning more about the subject raised some concerns. Despite being hunted from an abundant species, the catch is predominantly pregnant females, raising sustainability questions. Plus, health risks due to high mercury and other toxins in whale meat are significant.
What's your take? Would you try whale meat?

Todays‘ feast is brought to you from beautiful South Africa 😋One of the many things Cordt and me love about this country is the abundance of organic, fresh fruits and vegetables you can find. And of course the fine wine that goes with it!

- Gm book lovers 📖✈️ What are some travel habits that you’ve picked up on your adventures?
For me, it's diving into novels about my destination - it always opens up new layers of understanding and connection to the place I am in.
Friday read: "The Covenant of Water" by Abraham Verghese (7/10)
Every Friday, I've decided to share a book I've read. "The Covenant of Water" is set in Kerala and spans three generations from 1900 to 1977. While it is an engaging read that takes you deep into the heart of its setting, it's not a light one. So be prepared for a lengthy journey through its pages, filled with more tragedies than one might prefer.
On a lighter note, I started my day with mango sticky rice - a Thai classic that somehow feels right at home here, blending worlds in a single dish. 🍚🥭
Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend filled with meaningful reads and delightful eats! 📚✨

Have you ever heard of Penghu? It’s a group of islands in the Taiwan Strait, famed within China and Taiwan for one specific ice cream flavor: Cactus.
As the land is dry and the winds are strong here, the locals have found clever ways to make the most of what thrives naturally. And I have to say pairing cactus with ice cream was a great idea 🍧
What ice cream flavors have surprised you? 😋

As yesterday featured quite a fancy dining experience, today is about what you could think the opposite: a snack bar. But don’t be fooled!
This snack bar is not just any snack bar, but the peanut butter and chocolate bar that Cordt and me bought in South Africa in January 2023, only to take it to Norway, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, India, and finally, to the top of Mount Bukhansan in Seoul, where we unceremoniously devoured it as we were starving 😅
- Gm foodies! 🌏✈️
Kicking off my posts about foods @lens/Cordt and me discover on our travels - with a flavor explosion from Seoul! I was hesitant to try the Oxtail soup at 우미집 1947... because after all, how good can a simple oxtail soup be? Turns out, it's mind-blowing—one of the best meals I've ever eaten!
For the curious foodies, here's a (not so simple) recipe to try at home: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/oxtail-soup
