- It’s time to take back ownership of our relationships.
Our relationships with friends, family and communities are what matters the most. More than coins. More than NFTs.
Yet, we do not own our relationships anymore. Companies do. Whatsapp, Telegram, Google, Snapchat, Twitter - they own our digital relationships.
They can block you, censor you, know who you’re talking to. And most importantly, they don’t allow you to leave freely. You can’t take your Twitter DMs to a new app that you prefer, you can’t start a conversation on Instagram and continue on Whatsapp. You should be in charge.
We’re trying to fix this, for good. It’s (very) hard and we won’t do it alone. We’re part of a movement of builders who want to put you back at the center. If we succeed, we will all gain social freedom and a much better experience. That’s worth the try!
If you choose to use our messaging app, you will own your conversations thanks to the @xmtp_.lens protocol that is encrypted, decentralized and interoperable.
There are a few hundred people using Converse today. You are our top priority and we’ll keep shipping to help you create and nurture relationships that you truly own.

- "Crypto" means different things to different people.
The public figures who stake their identity on being against it have a completely different view of it than the people building in crypto during this bear market.
Detractors see crypto as a threat to everyday citizens and consumers.
But what if crypto is or at least has the potential to be exactly the opposite of what these detractors believe? 🤔
For us, being "pro-crypto" means being pro...

For those of you in the industry, what does crypto mean to you?

- I almost walked out of the room this morning when I got nervous and lost all of my confidence presenting alone while others were in a team of four. Thanks for all the kind words and positive feedback from all the judges that brought back my confidence so I could make it through finals!
- Overcoming my biggest fear today! My teammates in a competitions (team of 4) ditched but I continued working on it and submitted. Luckily got selected to present as one of 20 finalists. Got to the venue nervous, presenting and answering questions alone. Made it to top 4 finalists and finally did win 1st prize…
It’s unbelievable but I DID IT guys :)

- Hey everyone - I've written my first long-form thought piece and released it on Mirror.xyz, please consider giving it a read! My new year's resolution was to write more. My goal with this piece is to help people understand the nature of the current web2 social landscape and begin to question what role we all play in it. This is a prerequisite to understanding what @lensprotocol is all about, and something I talk a lot about with people practically every day.
I hope you like it!
**Second-Mover Advantage and Why It’s So Damn Hard To Build The Next Big Social Media App**
https://mirror.xyz/bradorbradley.eth/bncB4C2jq9SpR6OhfE-0FYonPB9fNPnNrreo0WSVrRI
Here's a quick teaser:
Why is it so hard to make a successful new social media product in 2023? Why do a few apps come to dominate our daily lives while so many more never even make it to the Top 100 App Store?
New web2 social products need to succeed at these 3 things: 1. build a great product (hard) 2. scale your users (expensive/risky) 3. survive second-mover advantage from Big Tech copy cats (seemingly impossible) It's never been a scarier time to build a new social product
There's no shortage of examples of Big Tech hindering growth (or killing entirely) newcomer social apps by shamelessly copying them:
@Snapchat stories >> @instagram stories
@Clubhouse >> @Twitter spaces
@BeReal_App >> @tiktok_us Now
And yet, some newcomer apps are able to still create entire new categories of social products - like TikTok and most recently, BeReal b/c of the robust communities they establish early on It's easier to copy features than communities, and that's good news for newcomers
What conditions are necessary for a social app environment to enable more of these new communities and products to flourish? In order to imagine a new kind of social landscape, we need to understand the problems with the existing one
But more on that in pt. 2
- Also the fact that you can’t port your previous tweets 🙃😤

- First post from @buttrfly.lens 🦋
- Three interesting challenges I want to share from product building perspective that might help other fellow builders here on Lens
1. What are you trying to solve?
Serious question, especially for web3 products. Decentralization as a product, will only get you as far as the firm believers. To cross the line, how is your web3 product faster, better and stronger than anything else out there?
2. Keep the product simple
It might be intuitive to think that feature rich products are what keep the users coming back. However, most successful products do start with a simple offering, focused to the main objective the product is solving. What is the main thing you want to solve with your product? How could you provide this utility with least friction and distraction? Once you get your product in a place where it has the most straighforward way to achieve its goal, you are in the right track. You often might hear the sentence "talk to your users", something that you hear from Y Combinator. Understanding what customers want and think about our product would help to achieve to build the parts that eventually makes your product feature rich, based on what are your users needs.
2. Don't build everything at once
Start with the main feature, what your product is built to solve in the first place. Less is more, and you are able to ship faster and iterate. Don't be afraid to ship shitty code or designs, its okay in the beginning but iterate to improve.
- I'm finally, on @orbwagmi.lens today! Will explore and add what I experience to my web3 social thread, which will be shared soon! 👀
- Building a bot and community management tool for any discord communities esp web3 companies, so you all can stay on top of what's going on and make sure you communicate and support your members effectively.
- How do you all feel about managing/participating in Discord communities these days? Anything you wish the community team could have done better?
- Have packaged a @lenster.lens desktop app using pake, it’s only 1.74M.

- Legal identity is only one aspect of who we really are.
We are creators, friends, fans, pseudonymous social media users. Decentralized identity empowers us to choose when we share these aspects of our identity, and when we keep them private.
Proof, but with privacy.
