- 📍 Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
Learning about a nation's history through its traditional attire is always a delightful experience for me.
Kazakhstani traditional clothing is crafted primarily to shield individuals from extreme temperatures, a feature prominently reflected in men's attire. They often incorporate materials of animal origin, such as fur and leather (from raccoons, beavers, foxes, wolves, etc.), and are characterized by vibrant colors, intricate details, patterns, and designs. Parts of animals are even used for musical instruments.
Kazakhs belong to the Turkic ethnic group, known for their nomadic heritage, which is why in this post, you can catch a glimpse of the Yurt, a traditional dwelling, or tent. Yurts are made from wool! Specially prepared wool is draped over a wooden frame, allowing for easy assembly and disassembly. The tents are white, symbolizing a pure heart, open to all. They are adorned with colorful details during holidays and celebrations.
Religion is one of the unifying factors among Turkic peoples, and Kazakhs are fairly liberal Muslims, as evident in their women's traditional attire. Over the centuries, it has evolved, with traditional clothing no longer necessitating complete head coverings. Women often adorn themselves with plenty of jewelry, mainly crafted from silver and gold. A fascinating fact I recently learned is that men are prohibited from wearing gold; golden jewelry is forbidden in Islam due to its purported negative energy for men.
This is just a teaser of what lies ahead in the upcoming narratives—rich in customs, traditions, colors, and melodies.
Feel free to share your thoughts on Kazakhstani traditional attire! It's truly one of the most beautiful ensembles I've had the pleasure of wearing 😍

- 📍Lac Tritriva, Madagascar 🇲🇬
Madagascar Road Trip, Day 1/3, Antananarivo-Antsirabe 🚙
The size of Madagascar and its rough roads are reasons why this country requires a lot of time. To cover a distance of 400-500 km by car, it sometimes takes 3 days because it's not safe for tourists to drive at night.
On the recommendation for the first part of our Madagascar road trip, we hired the Etiland Tour Madagascar agency. This is a more expensive option, but a tested and comfortable one, with an English-speaking guide. Their price for a jeep (some parts are impossible to pass with another vehicle) is €150 per day. We found many cheaper drivers on the street, but it was important for us, at least for the beginning, to have someone who speaks English and with whom we would feel safe.
The first break and overnight stay on the way from Tana to Morondava (the final destination of this road trip, where the Baobab Avenue is located) is in a town called Antsirabe. At first reading/listening, all Malagasy cities have very strange names, but after a few days, you get into the rhythm of pronouncing them. To make the most of the day after 5-6 hours of driving, we ask the driver to take us to Lake Tritriva, about half an hour from Antsirabe.
The lake of volcanic origin does not fit at all with the surrounding rice fields, but Madagascar is definitely a destination full of surprises. The emerald color of the water, the temperature making your legs shiver... I would rather say this is some lake deep in the Alps.
There's no guarantee you'll reach Lake Tritriva, again due to bad roads, especially in the rainy season that has just started. We successfully arrived, walked around the lake, and on the way back... Our wheel got stuck in the mud. Oh no, on the first day, I thought. As the roads are narrow, not only did we stop, but also the car behind us.
I was delighted by the willingness of the villagers in the village where we were to help; everyone gathered until we safely got out of the mud and then waited until a new screw for the wheel was brought from the town. During that time, we made friends with those who had gathered; we bought souvenirs made of stones characteristic of Madagascar's soil and had another confirmation of how lovely the Malagasy people are.
When you move away from Tana, everything is much cheaper, so we paid €20 for a night in a completely decent hotel for 3 people!
