A Completely Different Afghanistan!
All the hardships after a grueling 20-hour journey were forgotten the moment we laid eyes on the enchanting colors of the Band-e-Amir lakes in the national park. It felt like stepping into another planet, in every sense.
We visited Band-e-Amir on a Friday, a non-working day in the Islamic world. The place was bustling like an anthill.
Women pedaling boats while playfully man are playing in water, dancing, playing music, balloons being sold, and merry-go-rounds spinning... Here, it's as if different laws apply compared to the rest of the country.

Nobody minds that Omid and I are pedaling together, even though we aren't married or close relatives. Every now and then, we stop to chat with people, mostly girls, who are cheerful and smiling. I tease Omid, saying that this one is cute, that one is cute, should I ask for her number? I can see he's smiling. He says, "I know why. They see I'm with you and think I'm rich. I don't need those kinds of girls."
One pedal boat particularly caught our attention, with three girls, one woman, and one man, all dancing joyfully. I start filming them, and they wave at me. After a while, our boats line up side by side. Mubaraka and Mursal (the two girls) switch to my boat. Oh, you should have seen their happiness! They're all talking at once, saying, "Ask me something, ask me!" Before the Taliban came to power, they had finished high school and now dream of studying abroad. They aren't sure how that dream will come true, but no one can take away their hope...
They invited me to their home (they're actually neighbors; Mubaraka joined Mursal's family on the trip), and though I promised to come, I didn't manage to... Perhaps another time...
At least we exchanged numbers and are chatting on WhatsApp ❤️
