- while EURO2024 is still ongoing, many supporters from abroad have already learned that their perception of Germany (perfection, efficiency,...) is wrong. they got a reality check. 😬 😉
since I've boarded a train a couple of minutes ago, some tips for traveling with Deutsche Bahn 🚂:
1) if you reserve a seat, try to get one in the middle of the train. you can check seats if you book online.
somehow trains still run in the wrong order of waggons. so you can (almost) make sure that you don't have to run from one end of the train to the other one on the platform or inside of the train. ICE trains are long 🚅
2) bring a bottle of water and maybe a snack 🍶🍿
don't rely on the train's restaurant. for various reasons, they might be out of order. also the train might stop in the middle of nowhere rather unexpectedly.
3) have your phone fully loaded and/or bring a power bank. yes, you can plug in your phone at your seat but... 📱
4) have a sweater or jacket ready, even if it's 30 degrees Celsius outside.
also be prepared to strip on the train. well, air conditioning might not work properly or at all.
if you experience problems with heat or cold, you can try to change the wagon. sometimes trains have different climate zones. that's not by design, though. 🥵🥶
5) when traveling try to avoid heat, cold, and storm. trains, tracks, and other infrastructure are only human. they also have a comfort zone.
