pet3rpan is a partner from 1kx. Investing in autonomous worlds, NFT IP, metalabels, generative consumer and DAOs. Summoner at Hydra Ventures, a fund backing investment DAOs.
He's an early founding member at MetaCartel from 2018, the web3 community of creators and developers focused on building blockchain applications, using crypto in interesting ways, exploring new ideas and experiments with DAOs.
I first met Peter possibly in 2018, but definitely Berlin Blockchain Week in August 2019. Originally from Sydney, Australia. We talk about his experiences in the web3 space. About the early internet and how it works. About the cypherpunks from the 70s, 80s and 90s who pioneered these ideas about digital freedoms and rights, and cryptography.
And we talk about collective lore and canon, like a shared belief in the Star Wars universe that is held in a shared imagination.

- **Lens SDK 1.1 - Improvements in this release**
1) Momoka support
2) Self-funded transactions fallback
3) Bi-directional pagination traversing
4) Supports limited free collects
5) Several `LensClient` improvements
6) Bug fixes and minor improvements
**What's new?**
**Momoka support**
The Lens SDK React hooks now support Momoka publications. To start using Momoka today just upgrade to `@lens-protocol/react-web@latest` and the SDK will take care of the rest.
The Lens SDK will choose Momoka posts over on-chain posts automatically based on your collect settings. It will also know when comments and mirrors need to be on Momoka infrastructure based on the referencing publication.
**Self-funded transactions fallback**
Occasionally gasless transactions might not be available for a given profile. To provide continuity in your user experience you can now fallback to execute transactions using the user's funds to cover gas costs. More documentation is available here: https://docs.lens.xyz/docs/self-funded-transactions
**Bi-directional pagination traversing**
It's now possible to traverse paginated results in both directions (older and newer results).
This allows you to implement functionalities such as "pull to refresh" on a mobile app or fetch newer feed entries. See this example as a reference: https://github.com/lens-protocol/lens-sdk/blob/main/examples/web-wagmi/src/discovery/UseFeed.tsx#L63
**Supports limited free collects**
Last month we launched a new collect module called `SimpleCollectModule`. In this SDK release, you can leverage all its potential. For example, you can define a Free Collect with a limited number of NFTs to be minted.
**`LensClient` improvements**
We added `client.authentication.verify` and `client.authentication.getAccessToken` methods to enable extraction and verification of someone's API credentials.
- We're proud to introduce Lens Improvement Proposals (LIPs). This open, collaborative process will guide the future development of Lens Protocol.
Taking inspiration from the successful Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) and Aave Improvement Proposals (AIPs), LIPs takes a step towards decentralized governance. The LIPs process will foster an inclusive, transparent and collaborative environment.
You will find how to participate in LIPs in the Lens Protocol’s GitHub repository, which streamlines the community participation process. It gives anyone the chance to submit proposals, and promotes open discussion.
Let's dive into the first three proposals that are live today:
LIP-0: Establishing an Open Governance Model. A process where the Lens community can propose improvements to Lens Protocol. From the submission of proposals to transparent discussions — we aim to foster an open, collaborative, and inclusive decision-making governance model.
LIP-1: Open Standards for Algorithms. A proposal to establish open standards for algorithms — based on the open Lens data layer — that will encourage the development of third-party algorithms, diverse experiences and provide user choice.
LIP-2: Open Standards for Metadata. An initiative to establish metadata standards for Lens Protocol, promoting transparency, interoperability, and user empowerment.
Take a deep dive into LIPs in our latest blog: https://mirror.xyz/lensprotocol.eth/8uxN9fMYBOqyDW5yZ6O3DDdOLEv1jJtxcw9qk4c4wgM
LIPs are our next step in enabling community involvement in shaping Lens Protocol's future.

- at the time of writing the notification experiment post ( https://lenster.xyz/posts/0x0f85-0x155b ) was commented 253 times. THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏🤍.
The notification "signal filter" sent 34 notifications. (**13.44%**)
(If I haven't commented your comment with sth like "✅ ..." I didn't get a notification for your comment.)
**learnings:**
1️⃣ tagging (e.g. @punkess.lens ) "overrules/d" the filter
2️⃣ "following" seems to be the main criteria decisive if a notification was triggered.
**a few thoughts:**
It's great to see steps taken to hide spam wherever the user wasn't able to act yet (comments, notifications). It's even better that both filters can be (de)activated by the user.
Configuring the filter will be very challenging and rn it's imo too strict -> new people or people with a smaller lens network get even less visibility than they got before.
I would love to see a discussion around
`How can we support people starting on lens?`
with tools, games, (virtual) meetups, communities, ... pls share your ideas :-). 🙏

- My ‘For you’ section of twitter has exactly zero things For me. My You tube algorithm recommendations absolutely suck and Spotify tries to force me to listen to podcasts I have zero interest in 😩😩
The last time any social site algorithm worked really well for my random set of interests was when I was using StumbleUpon 13 yrs ago. 🤷🏾♂️
I have high hopes for the future of Lens algorithms and I really like my current feed because I carefully follow only accounts i am interested in
- it's necessary but a not very welcome topic: taxes 😬
which tools are you using to prepare your tax reports?
my requirements:
- support of multiple wallets
- multiple chains (the usual EVM stuff: Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BSC, Gnosis; for forthcoming years: zkSync, StarkNet,...)
- preferably compliant with German tax regulations
- import from CEXes
last year I did my report with Cointracking. had a look at it again and it seems too complicated or doesn't support all my requirements (maybe I just don't spot a feature...) 🤔

Lens is web3 native meaning it’s simple to build native payment features directly into your app. Mirrors, collects, follows and comments allow creators to monetize their content directly to the user, without intermediaries, and in a permissionless way. Premium content, token-gated rewards, tipping, crowdfunding, subscription services, referral, and affiliate programs are just a handful of the countless types of integrations you can build with Lens.
Looking for some inspiration?
- We're still in the early innings of AI and ML and want to see more devs utilizing the latest innovations from OpenAI, Replicate, HuggingFace, LangChain, and Dust just to name a few. Imagine the possibilities when web3 social intersects with AI/ML 🤯
- You could use AI/ML to analyze a user’s feed over the course of a few days and condense it into a single view so they can visit less often and still be up to date with what’s the latest and greatest.
- Or create a social learning platform that uses AI to create personalized learning paths for users. It could assess users' knowledge levels, recommend relevant learning materials, and provide real-time
feedback and guidance.
- You could use Lens profiles specifically for your gaming identity. Imagine your in-game items and high scores attached to your Lens profile and you curate a Lens leaderboard for the community.
- Bust a move! Build an app that lets users participate in virtual dance-off challenges. Users can record and upload their dances, challenge friends or random users, and compete for the elusive best dancer on Lens title 💃🕺
- Build a community app for @galverse.lens on Lens that utilizes the Splits for Collects feature (https://docs.lens.xyz/docs/create-post-typed-data#multirecipientfeecollectmodule) and you'll help with the development of the anime, character design, story, and more.
- Imagine using the Collect module for more exclusive content such as event ticketing.
- How about building a governance forum specifically for Lens users? gm DAOs 🤔
- Calling all pet lovers out there. Create a social platform where users can showcase their pets' talents, tricks, and general awesomeness. Users can upload videos of their pets and participate in virtual talent shows, with categories like "Best Trick," and "Funniest Moment"
- Want to bridge that gap from web2 social to web3? Build a site that shows you the most followed people that have used a site (maybe the 🐦 app) or help users connect their web2 account and generate a ZKP for mapping.
- Or a Lens creator dashboard for tracking post analytics (engagement, collects, revenue, etc) and helping you find your 1000 true fans.
- Maybe you find yourself collecting every post from one of the 100k profiles already on Lens. Create a module to “subscribe” to someone and automatically collect everything the post within certain parameters.
