- The French have a deep affection for their language and harbor a constant vigilance towards its 'purity', especially from the encroaching influence of their English-speaking neighbors. This fondness for their language often motivates authors and intellectuals in France to push back against the creeping influx of English borrowings. A similar phenomenon is observed in Iran, where terms like "address" have replaced "neshani", "asphalt" has substituted "ghirtecht", "page" is now used instead of "safhe/barg", "start" has taken over "aghaz/shoru", and "stress" is preferred over "tanidegi/fashar rawani". Such linguistic shifts also resonate in Arabic-speaking countries, like the UAE.
In an interesting development, the French dictionary recently introduced new vocabulary of Arabic, not English, origin. This addition has been largely spurred by the growing population of Arab immigrants in recent years. Terms such as Jihad, Intifada, Tagine (presumably a Moroccan dish), Fedayeen, Tabouleh, Resistance, Daesh, Keif (in the sense of pleasure, not inquiry), Kohl, Raïs, Hashish, and Nik (a colloquial term for sex) have found their way into French vernacular.
What's intriguing about this collection of words is their thematic concentration around topics of war, conflict, food, sex, and taboos. There is no knowledge, culture, or literature…

- Lens V2 Open Actions are a game-changer!
I've been exploring the V2 contracts and I'm very excited by the potential. Open Actions add a whole new level of modularity and composability to the equation. It reminds me of what we saw in DeFi Summer, but now it's happening with your social graph. 🤯
A case in point is the "mint on OpenSea" example highlighted in the announcement article.
Open Actions enable the usage of SeaDrop, a smart contract created by OpenSea. It will empower collectors to mint directly within Lens apps, eliminating the need to leave the app or deal with unknown third-party sites.
With V2, launching an NFT collection on OpenSea can be as simple as adding media to your Lens posts, and minting will be as easy as collecting publications!
Some more Open Actions ideas:
- **Uniswap Fee Rebates**: If a post about a token swap reaches a certain threshold of interactions, the smart contract could refund a portion of the swap fees to users who performed the token swap action from the post.
- **Provably fair giveaways**: You can create giveaways where the terms are based on social actions, like how many times a post is shared, or who generated the most referrals. Using services like Chainlink's verifiable random function allows the entrants to independently verify the claims and results of the contest.
- **All-or-nothing fundraisers**: A post can become a fundraiser, optionally automatically refunding contributions if a goal is not met (like amount/number of contributions, number of mirrors, etc).
- **Quadratic funding**: Instead of having to launch an entirely new fork of an app, like Quadratic Lenster, you could simply embed an Action that enables tipping and adds your post to a quadratic funding round.
Open Actions will remove many points of friction in Web3 while helping to provide security and trust when dealing with smart contracts. Social fundraising, governance, and collecting will be safer and easier than ever.
