I’m trying something new - I’m opening up a commission for a new work! Instead of releasing an already-composed song to be collected, this post is for new music.
I’ll compose a piano piece and record it in my favorite studio in Nashville. The collector can title the work and their name will be on the sheet music and in programs for live performances. Modernizing arts patronage in a fun way!
I’ll document the process here on @lens/lens, from the beginning sketches to the recording process. ✨🎹

Studio booked for the recording of @lens/rickydata’s commission! I love recording on this felted piano. The tone is so warm and you can hear little details like the sound of the pedal and the key action.
I practice a piece for at least two weeks before recording it. There are always new phrasings and intonation that I discover along the way. I like for a song to sound lived-in before recording.
Timeline:
I’m starting the composition today, I’ll have next week to perfect it, then two weeks of practice before the recording session!
