- **Hello World.**
Let’s talk design in this decentralized landscape.
-What are the physics of cyberspace?
-Is attention the online currency spend?
-Are we designing for ownership or access?
-What do our new interfaces feel like?
-From where do we hear new voices?
Seeking curious minds and strange unknowns.

- When we talk about how crypto needs better UX, it's not about pretty pixels (although, that's nice). It's what @lens/yeast is talking about right here. The fact that there isn't a way to have a no-risk trial for most of crypto right now is bonkers.
- While researching and sketching different types of networks, I stumbled on this beauty via are.na.
- Is it possible to open this feature up so that a user can pick any token for the collect feature?
- Excited to see Patchwork (https://patchwork.dev/) usher in a new era of the internet with rich, interactive, and interconnected layers of vibrant onchain data.
Btw, have you added your bubble to the canvas yet? https://canvas.patchwork.dev/
- Loved this open letter from the legend Sir Tim Berners-Lee on the 35th birthday of the web.
"A new paradigm is emerging, one that places individuals’ intention rather than attention at the heart of business models, freeing us from the constraints of the established order and returning control over our data. Driven by a new generation of pioneers, this movement seeks to create a **more human-centred web**, aligned with my original vision."
Here's to everyone creating a more human-centered web.

- The internet used to be a place to share, but it quickly became a place to shill. Thinking a lot about the underlying technologies, interfaces, and cultural norms that can help us turn the corner.
If you're also interested in creating a more open, creative, and pluralistic internet, please say hey. It'd be great to chat.
- Excited that Lens is now open to everyone! But c'mon - I feel like we missed a big easter egg opportunity with this one. ;)
- Three articles to start the week:
- Tobias Revell on Design and the Construction of Imaginaries: https://blog.tobiasrevell.com/2024/02/07/box109-design-and-the-construction-of-imaginaries/
- Nadia Asparouhova on e/acc: https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/tech-strikes-back

- TIL I learned that an old post on Lens will show up with the mint function on Farcaster because posts used to be NFTs. Posts made after Lens v2 don't because they are no longer NFTs.
- Hey everyone! Q for ppl working on AI x design research. My current understanding is that most AI tools that can synthesize design research are based on what is said, not how it is said. Do you have any pointers on tools or methods that help us understand the context and broader observations?
At a minimum, do we have tools that take into account tone? Even better, do we have any tools take into non-verbal signals?
- This post has text and an image.
- Hey! This is a post on Lens.
- Thinking a lot about proof (is it real?), provenance (where did it come from?), privacy, and protection these days.
- Really glad we have the first signs of choosing your own algorithms here on Lens!

- IDEO CoLab Ventures and WE3 are coming together this season to explore this new era of the attention economy by partnering with founders to incubate new ventures that tilt us towards a more human(e), creative, weird, and wonderful pluriverse.
Join us tomorrow (Wednesday, July 26th) at 9:30 AM PT for our first session on the (post) attention economy. We'll be joined by Matt Klein (@KleinKleinKlein), Nick Seaver (@npseaver) of @TuftsUniversity, and more special guests.

- Hey! I’m looking to test out a research —> insights flow. Lmk if you’re down for doing a test run!

- There’s no better way to start the ETH Denver madness than with a grounding, inspiring, human to human relationship building @gitcoin.lens retreat. Seeing your URL friends IRL is just magic.
- The future of social impact is community, not philanthropy.
- **Collect this Post if you are a Designer. **
Collecting NFTs are a neat way to build a community on Lens Protocol.
So please let's find each other across the whole graph by collecting this NFT.
All you need to do is collecting this NFT and follow other designers.
What you should do if you are a designer:
1. Collect this Post
2. Follow other Collectors of this Post (they are designers too)
3. Enjoy our new community
3. Enjoy that we have built a design community on Lens.
- This is when we've jumped the shark, right? https://twitter.com/esthercrawford/status/1590109344976470016?s=20&t=vF1lNZ-v56VYKEnlDfukGg
- I'd love a Lens starter pack. For example, here are the top 20 ppl you should follow if you want to learn about X. And who knows? Maybe that list can be constantly updated and debated. (Are we talking about TCRs again?)

- I'm interested in decentralized social media for a number of reasons, but I'm really intrigued by the promise of having multiple front-ends for the same back-end data.
It's pretty reasonable to expect that each front-end client will come with their own set of algorithms and biases that inform how they present the back-end data. Some people will then choose front-end X because it presents information in a certain way while others will choose front-end Y for a different reason.
But what if you could choose your own algorithms?
What would the consideration set even look like? (Meta question: how would you sort, filter, and select amongst those options?)
- Hey, friends! I'm excited to let you all know that I've joined IDEO CoLab Ventures to build our platform offering.
I'm excited to team up with Joe, @paris.lens , Reuben, and @madeline.lens as we invest in and support an amazing group of founders and teams who are all working to make a future that is a bit more just and joyful.
Some of you may be wondering why I left international development to join a web3 VC fund. (Stay tuned for a spicy "8 Things I Learned After 8 Years at the Gates Foundation" post at some point.) I can probably lump it around two themes: people and belief.
First, people. I love working with brilliant, creative, hardworking, and kind people who instinctively sketch or prototype something as they look to make sense of and sense make the world.
I missed building, and I can't wait to spend more time with designers, developers, artists, community organizers, and more exceptional multi-hyphenate individuals.
Next, belief. I believe in a future where value and information can move more easily and where we will have more collectively owned and governed digital spaces.
I believe in protocols over platforms, and I'm eager to see new models for coordination and collaboration based on people as owners, not the products themselves.
Will the pendulum swing? Most likely.
Will there be a lot of hype and general hand waving? Most certainly.
Will this happen on its own? Probably not.
We know that progress is possible, but not inevitable. If we collectively think that this is a future worth fighting for, then it's up to all of us to do our part to make that future a reality.
Thank you to everyone who invited me down the rabbit hole and walked with me as I learned more about the technological and social layers of web3. Big shout out to friends at We3, FWB, Seed Club, Future Foundation, Mercy Corps Social Ventures, Chaotic Goods, and more.
And for anyone else who may be curious to learn more about web3, please reach out. The water is warm, and we'd love to have you.
Oh! And if you're going to be in Bogota for Devcon, give me a shout. Paris, Madeline, and I would love to meet you.
- Most things ultimately come down to people negotiating with others – whether it is other people or with our own future (or prior) selves. Be kind. Be generous.
- Over the years, I've developed a rubric to check in with myself and see how work is going.
People: are you working with brilliant, creative, hardworking, and kind people?
What: are you working on projects that matter to you?
How: are you working in a life-giving way?
Trajectory: are you growing / learning or are you treading water?
Value: are you and your work valued by others?
It's a simple framework as most frameworks should be. And you probably won't get everything all the time. But wow, I'm feeling incredibly lucky right now when I look at this list.
- Internet has been shut down in Iran, and I have no way of getting in touch with family. I stand with the women in Iran.
- Friday Thoughts:
A group of individuals doesn't automatically translate into a network or a community. There has to be something bigger than that that binds and keeps the group together. Nadia Asparouhova's work on Idea Machines (https://nadia.xyz/idea-machines) is a super compelling framework and offers some guidance on this.
- Ideology is the reason why we're brought together. We share the same vision or conviction about something and it brings together a community of people around it.
- An agenda frames and positions the ideas that have been generated into something actionable. Without this, it's a cool group chat, but there isn't a clear purpose for being together.
- Funders provide the fuel necessary to move from theory to practice.
In web3, people's roles are blurred and morph. Community members are funders are scene builders are support organizations and so on. This doesn't mean that everyone does everything; rather, this emphasizes the fluidity of our identities and how we can show up in different ways.
- Ok. I think it's pretty rad that you can select Toucan's NCT as your currency of choice when selecting your "Fee Collect" settings.
