- A reminder to the future self: You were here early.
- #Web3 is highly mercenary and we need to change that. How do we solve this?
It starts with building psychological attachment.
What is Psychological Attachment?
It's when users feel an emotional connection that goes beyond the product. It's when a product represents something more meaningful in a users's life.
This is the key to user loyalty, retention, and advocacy.
How to Build Psychological Attachment:
- Create a compelling vision.
- Make the user feel valued and recognized.
- Build an emotional connection through shared values.
- Build a sense of community.
- Stay connected with users and continually demonstrate value.
Users have a greater sense of psychological ownership when they’ve invested time, energy, effort, or money. Offering a sense of agency over a product can also create a sense of connection, through creation, customization, and expression of preferences. Familiarity also inspires feelings of ownership, as users develop a connection with the product.
The alignment between the product’s attributes and the user’s self-concept can foster greater psychological ownership and users gravitate to branding that match their self-image.
Web2 companies have done an awesome job at building such psychological attachment, and they did so without providing users verifiable ownership over their digital value.
How can the use of blockchain-base digital assets provide an alternative paradygm?
Blockchains introduce new dynamics to psychological ownership, allowing users to opt out and carry their value across composable platforms.
Through digital assets, digitial ownership is verifiably assigned to users and enforced cryptographically on a blockchain.
But to foster psychological ownership, product incentives should be contingent on users taking actions that reinforce attachment and build engagement habits, rather than just rewarding users for performing certain economically-driven activities.
If creators and products can engender a sense of psychological ownership among their users, it could mean turning a speculative and mercenary user base into an engaged community that is long-term oriented and places disproportionate value on their relationship to the creator.
With Web3 being an opt-out system, and users assigning greate value to our digital assets, applications will need to tap into psychological ownership to provide greater value.
Building psychological attachment is not a tactic, it's a mindset.
It requires authenticity, genuine care, and consistent effort.
But it's worth it if Web3 is to achieve its full potential.
Loyal customers are the foundation for a sustainable and thriving business.
This is a summary of Li Jin’s piece “Building Psychological Attachment — Not Just Ownership — Into Web3”. To dive in deeper into the concept, check out the link attached.
[Building Psychological Attachment — Not Just Ownership — Into Web3](https://hbr.org/2023/04/building-psychological-attachment-not-just-ownership-into-web3)
User interest in crypto projects is often transactional, mercenary, and short-lived. As the next era of the internet progresses with products that give users ownership through crypto tokens, people building in crypto and Web3 should consider the concept of psychological ownership. By applying this lens, crypto projects can foster a greater sense of attachment, leading to healthier user retention and sustainable ecosystems. Looking to other digital goods and applications, many have fostered psychological ownership and loyalty from users through personal investment, control, mastery, and alignment with how they see themselves.

- I have been thinking that @lensprotocol could end up shifting to a rollup infrastructure. This will allow the network to have full control over the value being built while still leveraging Ethereum’s economic security.
I am not sure what Polygon’s end goal for its PoS chain is, but maybe it makes more sense to transition Lens to its own L2 rollup. The transition could be done through mirroring the Optimism technology similar to what Coinbase did with Base, licensing the Arbitrum L2 technology, or working with Polygon’s zk team to develop its own chain.
An “L3” would not necessarily fit, I think the concept is too early and there is still a lot to fix on L2 land. Lens is growing quickly and L2 infrastructure is expected to become more seamless and composable with one another.

- The Ultimate Guide to EigenLayer | The Edge Podcast
Sreeram Kannan is the Founder of EigenLayer. He is also an associate professor at University of Washington Seattle, where he runs the UW Blockchain Lab.
In this episode, we cover everything you need to know about one of the most talked about projects in crypto. Getting to know EigenLayer in 2023 will be like getting a head start on liquid staking back in 2020! Sreeram walks us through how he came upon the idea that Ethereum could eventually export its trust to other blockchains, apps, and protocols through restaking ETH via EigenLayer. EigenLayer is a marketplace for decentralized trust. Similar to how venture capital decouples the need for entrepreneurs to have both innovative ideas and the capital to execute on their vision, EigenLayer decouples the need for a coincidence of both innovation and trust, so that blockchain builders with expertise to build new Web3 products can simply leverage the trust/security of Ethereum.

- Attending Consensus 2023 @ Austin. Who ese from the @lensprotocol community will be there?
- DEX trading is at a high right now which means so are rewards for LPs.
In March alone, Uniswap LPs earned $77M in fees.
- Most see @lensprotocol as a basic social media graph. To me, the value behind Lens could also extend to buckets like DeFi, on-chain gaming, etc. For instance, would be awesome to see undercollateralized loans powerd by on-chain credit mechanisms through these social graphs.
- Just a regular day on Polygon 🌿
- ETH burn down only. Love to see it.

- @lensprotocol @stani.lens How can I get my hands on one of those awesome lens sweaters? Can we set up a token-gated marketplace?
- Was able to use the Ledger Extension on Safari to access @lenster.lens on my mobile device 🔥
