You’ve probably heard the viral ‘Woop Baby’ hook on TikTok, but do you know who created it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzh5df87tRM&t=2s The track is by Wolverhampton duo Letherette, who specialize in sourcing and cutting sped-up hooks from rare and under-the-radar soul records. You could say their tunes are primed for today’s 15-second audio aesthetics, but Letherette have been producing in this style for over a decade. ‘Woop Baby’ is their most well-known track, thanks to its rise on socials. It features a sample of Ollie Nightingale’s 1971 B-side, ‘I’ll Take Care Of You’. Can you hear it? https://youtu.be/4tUs0ITdsz0?si=tPIuRlsaJ2qN3ki1 Photo: Michael Ochs Archive for Soul Train
