Poisonous frogs, tarantulas... I've already gotten used to snakes, now I have to develop tolerance for other dangerous animals 😆
And how could we leave Suriname without venturing into one of its rainforests? Due to time constraints, we chose to visit the Brownsberg Nature Park. If we had more time, we'd definitely opt for a 3-4 day tour; now that's an adventure! But for this trip, it's just a day excursion.
Although Suriname is cheaper than French Guiana, it's still not a budget destination. Prices for day trips are €80+, and again, thanks to my Instagram, we got a small discount, so here's a recommendation for the agency if anyone ever finds themselves in Paramaribo and wants this experience: Zus&Zo. It's also one of the best restaurants in town.
For this excursion, we took jeeps because the last part of the journey is impossible to traverse with any other vehicle. Unfortunately (or fortunately, as it added to the experience), as we started entering the rainforest, it started pouring rain. The experience from the Philippines and filming the "Soaked to the Skin" spot that led me to the hospital almost stopped me from getting out of the car and starting "hiking," but then a new thought came to mind: you only live once. At least now I have a swimsuit underneath my clothes, and they gave me rubber boots.
In just 5 minutes, we were soaking wet, but it wasn't cold, so climbing and descending through the rainforest to the waterfall was still a pleasure.
In addition to tarantulas and poisonous frogs that we saw as soon as we got out of the car, they say jaguars also live here 😵💫 Thank God we didn't see them for real.
Because of the soil color, the ponds were red/orange, and thanks to the rubber boots, I felt like a child, jumping through each one.
And as much as I see buildings, nothing can fascinate and inspire me like nature. Do you agree with me? 🕷️🐸🌧️

Another day, another Cosmos article! How familiar are you with the Cosmos ecosystem!

There are a lot of new and unique terms, and acronyms in the Cosmos ecosystem. Here is a list of them. Let me know in the comments if you learned something new today or if you knew them all.
✅ Cosmonaut - strangely the textbook normie definition is a Russian astronaut. But in Cosmos, this is what all the participants call themselves and each other. Plus some bonus points! This is the (unofficial) emoji ⚛️ of Cosmos which you’ll see all over twitter in folks names and bio’s.
✅ Cosmos - an idea, concept, and ecosystem. Cosmos is collectively the idea put into reality of a multi-chain world. Generic or app chains, permission-less or permission-ed chains, the ‘Cosmos’ is a network of interconnected, independently managed and validated chains. Sub-components of the Cosmos can be detailed out in terms below this.
✅ Cosmos SDK - the modular framework that Cosmos chains are built with. SDK stands for software developer kit. The modules refer to the code for particular pieces of functionality. For example, there are modules for Authorization, Banking, and Governance. By the way, this is where chains have the ability to make customizations. Maybe modifying an existing module or adding a new one altogether. I am not a developer, but this is my understanding. And any custom or modified modules wouldn’t be as easy to upgrade with the global patches and versioning to the SDK.
✅ Tendermint - “Tendermint is both a consensus engine and a BFT consensus algorithm. State-machines can be built in any programming language on top of Tendermint, which takes care of replication.” Had to steal this one out of the text book! I am not that technical and not going to pretend to be. Check the diagrams here : https://docs.tendermint.com/v0.34/introduction/what-is-tendermint.html I also found an awesome video on the subject. Highly suggest watching this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFiLxS7f1Lo
✅ ABCI - “The Application Blockchain Interface is a protocol that connects a state-machine and a consensus engine like Tendermint.” Again, a bit too technical for me to try to explain. But as I understand ABCI is the middle layer between Tendermint (for producing blocks and consensus) and the application layer (smart contract logic).
✅ Cosmos Zones - a zone refers to a chain. So think of them as cities around the world or houses in a neighborhood. I can’t remember who initially made that analogy but you get the point. Map of zones is a website that has a really cool, interactive visualizer for all the Cosmos ecosystem. Seriously check this out, its so cool. https://mapofzones.com/
✅ Cosmos Hub - this was the first Cosmos chain/zone. ATOM is the native token. It served as the proof of concept chain for the entire Cosmos ecosystem. After its success, many other chains began to pop up. It does not have much utility aside from being an token onramp from many major exchanges. That may change as more utility and functionality is being discussed to be implemented such as Atom 2.0 and Interchain Security (see next entry).
✅ ICS - Interchain Security basically allows other chains to use another chain to perform block validation. Neutron is the first chain to test this feature. Neutron’s chain uses the Cosmos Hub validators to secure the network. Excited to continue to monitor that project. This has a lot of benefits because it reduces upfront costs and time because they do not have to enlist a brand new validator set. As well as reduce overall overhead for the new chain. This also increases the utility and demand for the parent chain.
✅ Interchain Foundation - from their website the ICF “core teams maintain the protocols and applications Cosmos Hub, Cosmos SDK, CosmWasm, CosmJS, IBC, and Tendermint Consensus.” That’s quite a lot to be honest! I also learned that this entity is setup as a non-profit in Switzerland. Some more fun facts! The first major milestone for them was launching the Cosmos Hub and here is how the first round of tokens were distributed: 5% of the ATOM went to its initial donors, 10% went to the Interchain Foundation, 10% went to the company developing most of the software (Tendermint Inc.), and the remaining 75% to be distributed according to the results of the private and public fundraisers.
✅ ICNS - this stands for the Inter Chain Name Service. This is sort of similar to ENS but a bit different at the same time. Where ENS is the Ethereum naming service. The ICNS has the interchain in mind. Even though each chain has a different ‘account’ (public address), the ICNS gives you the ability to have a single identity. This is formed as your ‘account’+’.’+’chain’, so for example matt.cosmos (for Cosmos Hub) and matt.osmo (for Osmosis). Another unique approach taken was to use Twitter usernames as an initial snapshot of whitelisting specific usernames. This project was just announced this month so stay tuned as to how much this will be utilized by the community.
✅ App Chain - part of the cosmos vision is empowering projects to launch app specific chains. This is great for the builders (able to have more inputs to optimize for the specific use case) and the users (able have lower transactions fees). For example, Osmosis is a DEX dApp chain.
✅ Bonded / Un-Bonded - Bonded is another word for staked. So I’m sure you’re realizing un-bonded is another word for un-staked. Cosmos chains are proof of stake networks. Bonded tokens give you the right to vote on governance proposals and earn network rewards. For example, bonded ATOM gives you the ability to vote and receive rewards in the Cosmos Hub.
✅ IBC - Inter-Blockchain Communication. This is one of the core selling points of the ecosystem. This gives you the ability to send tokens from chain to chain, in a decentralized, fast, secure manner.

Don’t forget to comment how you did. Did you know all of these? Which ones did you learn today? Did I miss any important ones? Always appreciate your feedback for future topics as well as how I can improve.
