Abstract
Today, we live in a world where charities and non-profit organizations (NPOs) are many and varied. There are charities and NPOs that specialize in healthcare, disaster response, fighting hunger etc. In Canada, there are 86,000 registered charities that take in donations from the general public. In 2020, every household gave an average of $2,520 to charities of their choice. A big cause for concern for many donors is how the donations are being used? How much money is being used to pay board members' salaries and other inefficiencies? Blockchain is the answer to this problem. By design, blockchain technology allows for donations to be traceable, accountable and transparent.
When considering the efficiency and success of a charity, various metrics can help. The impact that every dollar donated has, qualitative work that has been done by the charity, and the number of volunteer hours that the charity has coming in from its volunteers. The latter can be measured by blockchain technology. BCHARITY has designed the VHR token for this purpose. Every volunteer hour done is represented by 1 VHR token. Using VHR can allow for donors to measure the amount of volunteer hours and the efficiency of the charity or NPO’s volunteer management program.
The VHR token will solve the problems of the typical donation problems of being unaccountable, untraceable, and untransparent.
Introduction
Donations are made on the basis of trust. Donors are trusted to give enough money to charities to keep them running. The organization is trusted to spend donations responsibly in order to maximize the financial efficiency of the donations. Though, most donations are untraceable at the moment, which is a problem as transparency builds trust, and trust is the foundation of giving. Charities reap billions of dollars each year from well-meaning citizens though none of them are legally bound to make their financial statements public. Consider three of Canada's top 100 charitable organizations: the Archdiocese of Toronto Catholic, the Watch Tower-Witnesses, Jehovah's and Kupas Hachesed Meoroth. These three organizations have received a total of 255 million dollars in donations, but they all refuse to be openly transparent about how the money is being spent. The problem with this is that a donor has no knowledge of how fiat currency is spent after it is donated to a charity. This is a red flag because the charity now has the freedom to spend the money however, they see fit. A big example of this is UNICEF. UNICEF is a globally recognized charity but only 0.14 of every dollar goes to UNICEF cause of helping impoverished children across the globe. This leads to unaccountability from the charity as they can get away with spending egregious amounts of donations on miscellaneous expenses not related to the charity. The CEO of UNICEF receives well over 1 million dollars in compensation which could have been spent on charitable activities instead. It's not just UNICEF; many other charities have untransparent financials as well. Aga Khan Foundation, United Israel Appeal of Canada, Federation CJA, Jewish Foundations of Greater Toronto, and Toronto International Film Festival are a few examples. These are only from the top 100 charitable organizations in Canada; there are countless more less well-known organizations doing the same thing. A lack of transparency leads to distrust in the charity. Distrust in the charity harms beneficiaries of the charity as even less funds will be used to help them.
In order to solve these problems, we require a solution that can be accountable, traceable and transparent. By nature, blockchain is all three of these. Transactions on the blockchain are public and available for anyone to see. If charitable organizations adopt blockchain technology to be accountable as all of their actions and activities will be transparent and traceable. Therefore, BCHARITY wants to help charities transition to blockchain technology as smoothly as possible. Introducing the VHR Volunteer Hour System.
Step 1: the VHR Volunteer Hour System will partner with charities to raise donations using our fundraising platform. Our fundraising platform will help charities raise money from private donors which will allow for VHR tokens to be purchased from BCHARITY.
Step 2: the purchased VHR tokens will be traceable from the BCHARITY website which has a transaction ledger that tracks every single transaction that a VHR token goes through – enforcing the traceable nature of the VHR token. The VHR token will be accountable at $30/VHR for social impact value but will only cost $3/VHR for donations. The VHR token will be transparent as each volunteer hour transaction will be viewable on the VHR blockchain.
VHR Token Overview
The era of untraceable and unaccountable donations is over. The project team at BCharity has created a new ecosystem that is decentralized, neutral, and beneficial to both the donor and the organization. BCharity wishes to modernize the old opaque donation model through a new platform and data exchange unit.
The first step toward realizing this vision is the introduction of Volunteer Hour (VHR), a new data exchange token. VHR is built on the Polygon Blockchain, a blockchain-based distributed computing platform that stores smart contracts securely in the Ethereum blockchain. Knowing where donations go will be more accountable and transparent than ever before thanks to BCharity's newest token; the VHR token. Donors will be more inclined than ever to donate due to having direct knowledge of where donations are going for all parties.
The problem: a lack of trust and transparency between non-profits and the public leading to difficulty obtaining donations
This is where VHR tokens come in. In order to build trust between donors, organizations, and volunteers by tracking individual work hours in a transparent and traceable manner. This verifies progress being made, contributing to critical information that will further incentivize donations. Every token will represent 1 volunteer hour.
Token Technology
Volunteer Hour (VHR) is a utility token based on Polygon Blockchain (Based on EVM), and is the most important element in this VHR ecosystem. Smart contracts, which are applications stored in the Ethereum blockchain, are constructed by BCHARITY and used in the VHR token. Using cryptographically secure token contracts helps enforce performance of the contracts. Smart contracts are self-executing agreements that enforce the terms of the agreement. If the terms are not met then the smart contract will not be executed. Smart contracts are unbiased and decentralized and once a smart contract is coded nothing can change the terms of the contract.
Initially the VHR Platform will be administered by the BCHARITY foundation, however, over time, it will be purely based on DAO smart contract technology.
VHR Token Flow
Step 1: BCHARITY partners with charities
Step 2: BCHARITY helps partnered charity to hold fundraising campaigns
Step 3: Donors join fundraising campaigns by giving DAIs for their favorite charities
Step 4: BCHARITY receives DAIs from the fundraising campaigns
Step 5: The partnered charities receive the VHR and DAI from BCHARITY. (For example, $300 DAI the donors gave at step 2, the charity will receive $250 DAI and 100 VHR. $50 DAI will be received by BCHARITY as processing fee.)
Step 6: The charities organize volunteer activities and send it to the volunteers after their service
Step 7: The Donors can keep track of the VHR through the blockchain anywhere at any time.

Lack of Transparency
Complete transparency and tracking for volunteer hours.
Volunteer Hours can be changed or modified.
Due to blockchain technology, the number of hours is immutable
Donors cannot accurately track the number of volunteer hours done by a charity.
Donors can accurately track the number of volunteer hours done by a charity. This will help increase donations as donors will have increased confidence in the charity.
BCHARITY Overview
BCHARITY and the VHR token will be conceived and developed by ECSSEN Career School, a well-established, registered charity in Canada since 2004 under the sponsorship of Canada Government. Since its inception, ECSSEN’ team will work with charities including local civil societies and partners. ECSSEN’ core competency is the ability to forge high-level partnerships between charities, celebrities and high-pro-file corporations. Unlike other projects looking to tokenize the non-profit sector, ECSSEN has developed an ecosystem of charities, donors, celebrity donors and gala events which will be key to facilitate the immediate use of the token.
BCHARITY is a blockchain community-driven cross-chain open protocol for the public good sector that develops a new blockchain-based tokenomics ecosystem for nonprofit organizations to be traceable, accountable, and transparent in their daily operations.
BCHARITY is committed to addressing three issues that donors and funders face; untraceable, unaccountable, and untransparent giving. BCHARITY intends to use the VHR token to address these concerns as well as make donating as transparent and accountable as possible
BCHARITY’s Vision is: Giving love to the public good forever on blockchain.
BCHARITY’s Mission is: To facilitate fundraising for charities through the creation of a traceable, accountable, and transparent token system for donors and funders tracking funds in the whole process of program management.
Token Issuance
Token distribution rate: 3 DAIs = 1 VHR
Token Launch Date: 2022/06/20
Funds Allocation
1/6 of the funds go into fundraising and volunteering administration.
5/6 of the funds go into volunteer programs.
Conclusion
BCHARITY’s goal has always been to connect blockchain technology to charitable giving and organizations. In 2020 – 2022, ECSSEN Career School has received funding from the Canadian Government to run BCHARITY to accomplish its goal of making charitable donating more accountable, traceable and transparent. In 2021, BCHARITY made the BCHARITY DeFi Yield Farms and NFT Market. In total, these projects raised $300,000 in investment from various investors. This was a big step towards creating the VHR token and the VHR ecosystem into the state that it is today.
The VHR cryptocurrency will be built on the Polygon blockchain, and will be used to track volunteer hours for various non-profit organizations. In the future, VHR aims to scale and become an industry standard for Volunteer Hour Tracking.
