- Last week, I attended the @ethglobal hackathon in New York and failed miserably. My idea was to build an app that allowed customers to order food at restaurants by collecting @lensprotocol publications. This would obviously require a mobile app, and that's when I realized how hard it is to build anything mobile, especially when you don't have a lot of time and just want to try things out and build a quick prototype. I got stuck trying to decide which technology stack to use: React Native, Flutter, or a PWA / responsive app? Tried a few things, but once I started to actually code something, I ran out of time and couldn't submit anything decent
But I came out with some lessons learned:
-- Desktop apps have been good enough for purely financial applications, but if crypto is transitioning into the consumer app space, it **needs to go mobile**. Also, mobile apps provide access to QR scanning, geolocation, access to contacts, camera and mic, motion sensor, push notifications, NFC / bluetooh, and more, opening the door to a whole new set of experiences
-- Stepn, @friendtech, and POAP / NFC apps and the new developments with AA and services like @privy_io have shown the **potential** of mobile apps, but there's just not enough people building mobile-first dApps. Why?
-- **Building mobile dApps is hard**. Building for mobile is generally harder than building for desktop, but when it comes to dApps, it's even worse. Debugging, wallet connection, building a decent authentication flow, and a usable UI are some of the challenges. Even more if you have to go through the process of publishing to an app store
-- **Mobile is not ideal for hackathons**. Desktop apps are faster to build and are easier to integrate with many protocols, allowing to apply to more bounties. Also, they say it’s difficult to find good UI designers in web3 hackathons, but it's even harder to find mobile app devs. Even with decent SDKs or RN libraries available, most web3 devs simply don't care / don't want to learn mobile dev. In fact, in the last ETHGlobal hackathon, only 10% of the 300 submitted projects had a mobile component, and very few had a decent UX

- My favorite thing in Asia
- I’ve been in China for the past week and it’s cool to see how you can access Web3 apps like @lensprotocol.lens without a VPN. Front-ends could be blocked eventually, but I think that's less likely:
- Web3 infrastructure is not controlled by any government
- Services like ENS and Unstoppable Domains should make it harder to block these sites
- Had a great time at #ETHPrague last week. Lots of fun meeting old friends, and @josegarcialega.lens and I won a 🥈 prize for our project, Mosaic, where we experimented with the new #ERC6551 standard, which could unlock a new set of apps and use cases built on top @lensprotocol
- Congrats on winning the 🥈 prize for Best Lens App @bartomolina.lens and @josegarcialega.lens
Good meeting you at ETH Prague.
Enhorabuena cracks! Nos vemos!
- ETH Prague was great. It was awesome to meet @kipto.lens @nader.lens @stani.lens @ya7ya.lens @bartomolina.lens and Jose and many others.

- Came to ETH Prague🇨🇿 and we weren’t sure what we were going to hack. After some tacos 🌮 and a few margaritas 🍹we thought that it would be super useful to integrate the new ERC-6551 standard in @lensprotocol.lens
Meet so many cool people on the hackathon and got the 🥈 prize for Best Lens App. Congrats @bartomolina.lens 💪

- What happens to all the blog posts if Medium goes out of business?
- I started working on a @lensprotocol ecosystem dashboard on top of BigQuery: www.lenscentral.io
**What’s the motivation?**
-With Momoka, we can’t rely on Dune for analytics anymore (unless until / if the Dune team adds the Lens db into their custom dataset)
-The Lens ecosystem is growing rapidly, and it’s difficult to keep track of all the new apps and features. Lensverse is a great resource, but it lacks info on growth and usage
-Each application may have different relevant metrics. Maybe collects are important on @beatsapp.lens, but not so much on @diversehq.lens
**What is this useful for?**
-Identify trends, bot actity, etc.
-Identify relevant usage metrics and key users in different apps
-Help the Lens team to keep track of new apps, trends and growth metrics
===
**Some insights for the month of May**
-🥇 @lenster.lens dominance remains strong and even increased in the past three months, now close to 70% of publications are coming from Lenster
-👾 (This type of information will be covered in detail in each of the Apps sections in the future)
1. @lensport.lens: Spike on the 25th (481 pub.) due to the campaign announcing the launch of feature Drops
2. @collectz.lens: Spike on the 4th (297 pub.) due to two informational posts 1, 2
3. @chromadin.lens: Spike on the 26th (288 pub.) caused by a drop from @emmajane1313.lens. A similar app, @dumpling.lens, is not showing any publications this month. While looking ito it, I found that the mirror functionality is broken.
4. **Yup:** Spike on the 15th, 16th, caused by 367 posts by @chopan.lens
5. @wav3s.lens: Spike on the 25th (650 pub.) caused by @nader.lens campaign
-📉 There's a big decline from March highs, after Momoka was introduced. More info here
-👥 Most of the most active profiles don't have many followers (less than 1k) and low engagement. More info will be provided in the Bot activity section in the future
-👀 You can access all the views and the corresponding queries in BigQuery here
**On Momoka adoption**
-🥇 On-chain activity remains three times higher than that of Momoka, which is determined on a user-by-user basis rather than by the app itself. From a month ago, it seems that no new users are being migrated to Momoka
-🏦 The introduction of Momoka has decreased the fees paid by the dispatchers more than 90% (from $40k to $4k daily)
-💸 There was a huge spike in February when the dispatchers had to assume more than $400k in fees per day and the network activity and gas price increased significantly. This was mainly caused by the activity of profiles (NFTs) and reinforces the need for the introduction of Momoka, and will likely lead to reconsider treating the followings as NFTs in the future
- last July, I had DCA'd 32 ETH on a safe, regulated CEX.
What did I do next, and what happened to the ETH?
A thread 🧵:
tl;dr
multiple chains/LSTs
CEX+hw/sw wallets
+83% return in 11 months (+9% outperf)
slept easy 👶 and sailed thru ...
The Merge, FTX, DCG, Shapella
<--->
POV: July 2022. Luna crashed in May. Celsius active while less nimble DeFi mullets got rekt. Nexo looking to enter US. FTX consolidating market share. Gemini Earn offers 3.04% APY on GUSD stablecoin (audited), while Tether look like YOLO'ing liars. Tron's USDD de-pegged.
Blue Pill: hodl 32 ETH (worth $34k @ 1060 then). It would still be 32 ETH ($59k @ 1845 today), for a profit of $25k (+74% return over 11 months)
Red Pill: de-risk ahead of The Merge. Could turn into 1.76 BTC ($48k today), for a profit of $14k (+42% return)
Some options, and how they fared:
ETH +25k 74%
BTC +14k 42%
MSTR +24k 71%
QQQ +8k 24%
SPY +4k 12%
SHY +0 0%
TLT -4k -11%
all ETF returns include re-invested divs.
no divs/buybacks for MSTR 💎🙌 hahahaaaah
Celsius filed for bankruptcy 13 July 22. All $34k would be gone, leaving only bankruptcy tax loss carryforwards
Gemini Earn would be up merely $300 for <1% return, before I yanked it and put into a First Republic CD 💀
<--->
My plan for the 32 ETH:
- 14.4 ETH (45%) stays in ETH
12.5% CEX
12.5% h/w wallet
10% bridge to @0xPolygon, wrapped in WETH
5% @arbitrum
5% @optimismFND
- 6.4 (20%) @ LidoFinance stETH, on mainnet
- 6.4 (20%) @Rocket_Pool rETH
10% @optimismFND
10% @arbitrum
- 3.2 (10%) @indexcoop icETH
5% mainnet
5% @zksync / @zkSync_cn (@argentHQ s/w wallet)
- 1.6 (5%) @staderlabs $MATICX totally different yield-bearing asset, because, you know, Instagram NFTs
<--->
I want to emphasize that 3% was on offer, backed by the strongest diamond hands in crypto with gold standard NYDFS BitLicense audits
Lido concentration was definitely on the radar. The FTX + VC-coin ecosystem was louder then, with many sexier alternatives
Also recall pre-Merge thinking: L2s and LSDs were new, evolving, not battle-tested. The ETHC PoW value fork narrative had not happened yet. But surely there would be PoS FUD, maybe even real show-stopper bugs hacks or attacks (~5-10% chance?) around The Merge
<--->
What happened:
45% of my stake grew +74%. This was compensation for market risk, beta, correlation to risk assets, as well as Merge execution risk. Nothing bad happened to L2s wallets or CEX
20% (rETH) grew +83% or 9% outperf. Half~2/3 actual yield, 1/3~half discount contraction
20% (stETH) grew +87% or 13% outperf. Need to dig deeper, maybe I missed accounting RPL rewards or sthg. IIRC stETH was trading at 2% deeper discount, 3AC/Celsius concerns
10% (icETH) grew +106% or 32% outperf. This is effectively staked ETH levered 3x (with a hefty cut for the coop, and splashing txn costs)
5% (MATICX) grew +106%. Not even the same asset, though correlated. MATIC itself is +98%, so I got 8% incremental yield from staking
<--->
Summary:
by diversifying, I slept easier
got 9% additional return while hugging the benchmark
and benefitted from one-off mis-pricings (LSD depegs/discounts)
---
Takeaways:
1) number go up, Q.E.D. leverage good
2) bridge+swap costs generally small, even with upfront compounding
3) markets climb a wall of worry, not all risks come to pass
4) but spreading out makes it easier to hodl, less likely to capitulate at the worst time
5) LTM staking returns included many one-offs. The discount unwind kicker will no longer provide tailwinds for LST returns
6) opposite for bonds--headwinds gotta die eventually. Got burned before selling TLT 100 puts, nice round number #NFA
7) 👀 the Saylor ride

- 🌿 🎓 Meet Lenschool 🌿 🎓
A social learning platform built on @lensprotocol and https://knowledgelayer.org/ where:
🧠 #creators can monetize their #knowledge by selling video courses
🎓 anyone can enroll in courses, and connect and collaborate with fellow learners.
@bartomolina.lens and I built Lenschool during @ethglobal.lens #Lisbon with the goal of making online education more fun, collaborative and effective by adding social features to a traditional education platform.
On Lenschool, creators can share and monetize their knowledge by teaching to other people with video courses. Courses are created using http://knowledgelayer.org and linked in a Lens post. Video content is stored and transcoded using @livepeer.lens.
Anyone can enroll in a course by collecting the post. Students can then connect with other fellow learners, start discussions, ask questions and support each other (through comments on the post).
Creators can start referral programs so that enrolled students can refer the course (by mirroring the post) to their frens and earn a fee on each sale.
Thank you @nader.lens @stani.lens @paris.lens @christina.lens and frens for the support! It was great to build on Lens!
