- **Medusa Gorgon: Interesting Facts**
In Greek mythology, Medusa was a monster with snakes for hair and the power to turn anyone who looked at her into stone. She was one of the three Gorgons, daughters of Phorcys and Ceto.
Medusa is often depicted as having wings, tusks, and a shield.
Perseus, the hero in the myth, used his shield to look at Medusa's reflection and not directly at her, thus avoiding being turned to stone. He then cut off her head, using it to defeat the sea monster Cetus.
The name "Medusa" is thought to be derived from the ancient Greek word for "guardian".
Some scholars believe that the story of Medusa may have originated from an ancient fear of snakes or a symbol of female power.
In modern times, Medusa has been reinterpreted in various ways, including as a feminist icon and a symbol of resistance.
The story of Perseus and Medusa is one of the most well-known myths in Western culture and has been retold in many forms throughout history.
