Getting up before 6AM might be super painful, but when it comes to hiking, it’s usually absolutely worth it (most of the time, anyway 😁) Given that we hiked 30km in total on that day to get to Mt. Fitz Roy and back, there was no way around starting early anyways. On top of that, it was also a good opportunity to prepare for the W-Trail in Chile 😰

While it seems a bit odd to hike to the “British Lookout” in the “French Valley” in the middle of Chilean Patagonia, it is absolutely worth it, regardless of what you think of the Brits or the French. We hiked a total of 26.5km in 10 hours that day, which might be quite the ordeal on a bad day, but the weather really couldn’t have been any better. The mountains started being tinted in red as we walked along the southern lakes in the early morning. Once the sun came out we entered the forested French Valley, which is well protected from the sun almost all the way to the Mirador at 765 meters.

It was a very long journey from Mexico City to Patagonia, but nothing beats waking up to views like these 😍
