- **Start an Emergency Fund**
A mantra in personal finance is “pay yourself first,” which means saving money for emergencies and your future. This simple practice keeps you out of trouble financially and helps you sleep better at night. The tightest budget should put some money into an emergency fund every month.
Once you get into the habit of saving money, you will stop treating savings as optional and start treating it as a required monthly expense. Many accounts offer the power of compound interest, such as a high-yield savings account, short-term certificate of deposit (CD), or money market account.

- **Avoiding a Credit Card Balance**
When you have a credit card at your disposal, it can be tempting to charge more than you can afford. But carrying a balance from month to month makes those purchases considerably more expensive than they started.
The reason is that credit cards have some of the highest interest rates out there, often over 16%. That means a small charge carried over several months can quickly balloon into a much larger sum. The same is true for other high interest debt, such as some private or payday loans.
If you already have high-interest debt, however, you don’t need to panic. There are ways to pay off that debt.
The avalanche method, for example, requires paying the minimums to all your creditors, and putting any extra money toward the debt with the highest interest rate first. Once that’s paid off, the borrower puts their extra cash toward the debt with the next highest rate, and so on.
- **Building an Emergency Fund**
You can’t predict when your car will break down or when you’ll have to make an emergency trip to the dentist. If you don’t have money saved up for what life throws at you, you can risk racking up high interest credit card debt or defaulting on your bills.
To avoid this, you may want to start putting some money aside every month to build an emergency fund. A common rule of thumb is to keep three to six months of basic living expenses set aside in a separate savings account.
It can be a good idea to choose an account where the money can earn interest, but you can easily access it if you need it. Good options include: a high-yield savings account, online savings account, or a no fee bank account.
- Do it for the culture
- **Budgeting Is Your Friend**
Budgeting and learning how to balance your bank account can be key to making sure what’s going out of your account each month isn’t exceeding what’s coming in. Winging it — and simply hoping it all works out at the end of the month — can lead to bank fees and credit card debt, and keep you from achieving your savings goals.
You can get a quick handle on your finances by going through your statements for the past several months and making a list of your average monthly income (after taxes), as well as your average monthly spending.
It can be helpful to break spending down into categories that include basic needs (e.g., rent, utilities, groceries) and discretionary spending (e.g., shopping, travel, Netflix). To get a real handle on where your money is going every day, you may want to track your spending for a month or so, either with a diary or an app on your phone.
Once you know everything that typically comes in and goes each month, you can see if you’re going backward, staying even, or ideally, getting ahead by putting money into savings each month.
If you aren’t living within your means, or you’d like to free up more cash for saving, a good first step is to go through your budget and look for ways to cut back discretionary spending. Can you cook more instead of going out? Buy less clothing? Cut out cable? Quit the gym and work out at home?
You can also consider ways to bring in more income, such as asking for a raise or starting a side hustle from home.
- Perpetual futures are immensely popular in the cryptocurrency market. They have become a favored product among traders, so much so that perps make up more than 90% of trade volume on exchanges and the majority of open interest.
Anyone else bullish on this narrative?

- **The Treachery of Links** is my submission for the **ArtHack** exhibit from @artfromfuture curated by @jessyjeanne & @arminhoori.
My submission is based on the (in)famous painting by Rene Magritte, **The Treachery of Images** (aka, This is not a Pipe), which pitted the literal and physical (i.e. a pipe) against the intangibility of representation (i.e. the image of a pipe). We continue to wrestle with this idea today as we argue the value of art we cannot physically hold (quite possessive, right?): physical vs digital, JPGs vs canvases, links vs frames, fun vs non-fun XD. My piece focuses on this conflict and confusion by making the screenshot of an NFT the center of the piece itself; in this way we are asked to consider the value of an NFT which can be so easily copied, repurposed, renamed, relinked, and of-course never physically held. Shoot, if this post never gets collected, it's not even an NFT 🙃
Ultimately, imo individual perception is the only barrier to enjoyment (and thus value), so as long as the pipe exists...I think we're fine.
**Bio:**
I am an architect, and from time to time, a creator of things. Being trained as an architect, my work typically focuses on grids and spatial relationships, and often begins by transplanting the representations techniques and stylistic forms from anything that intrigues me: stickers, comics, plants, painting, renders. I am interested in the way conflict, misuse, and intentionality alter our assumptions and change our engrained patterns...and most importantly, the forms and experiences that emerge from that exchange.

**Short artist bio:**
I specialize in creating digital illustrations that mainly portray cute, sassy female characters. My work draws inspiration from a range of artistic movements, including pop art, street art, tiny bit of impressionism, and surrealism, which I blend together to create a unique and engaging style.
My pieces are characterized by their bold use of color and playful femininity, which I use to convey a sense of empowerment and confidence in my characters. By balancing cute and bold elements, I create works that are both accessible and visually striking, drawing viewers in to explore each piece in depth. That’s the core idea 😉
**Explanation of the work:**
This work is a vibrant and dynamic portrait inspired by Andy Warhol's iconic Marilyn Monroe series, but featuring famous NFT collector Gmoney, more precisely a CryptoPunks NFT php that he uses as his public image (even though he has revealed his face already). The piece captures the same bold, graphic style of Warhol's work manifesting itself with bright vibrant colors and iterations of the subject. Yes, I’ve chosen a guy for this piece, because why not! It was half deliberate half spontaneous decision, subconsciously I realize that the majority people in crypto are men.
Like Warhol's portraits, this work explores the impact of repetition and color on our perception of an image. I explore the traditional notions of originality and authenticity in art by creating multiple "originals" of the pixellated monkey wearing a beanie. No doubt that crypto-native people will recognize this image, this picture relates a person, status and gender perhaps.
Nowadays we are literally flooded by copies of anything and everything, so how can we find what is original and what is not? Does originality even have any value?

- Sometimes the Work Comes to YouBY RICKY RAYA herd of horses gathered outside my cabin, their hoofbeats steady as a bonfire crackling green logs. At the same time I could hear them bent to the earth, nipping the young grass. It was the wrong season. I wore two sweaters. In my dream, from across the lake, a wolf howled to remind me of a wound left open in the soul. My blood flew with his howl. Then it turned in the air like a flock of pigeons and came back. The wolf sat beside me and watched. I asked to borrow his nose.
Caught the scent of decay and followed it to my heart.
A ruin of promises I never kept.
Lifted a lie and a pup with my eyes looked back.
I knew which poem he was, and lowered my hand to feed him.
He said it was time to stop writing poems and start living them.
A crow cawed in agreement.
A squirrel dug up a nut and brought it for courage.
I ate it and my eyes became light.
When I woke I could still hear the horses grazing. I went out to look and an angry wind blew leaves that bit the ground. The mountain dropped rocks, click-clack, into the valley. No birds at the feeders, ice on the day's tongue. I put on another sweater, thick gloves. My last piece of oak in the woodstove. It was time for work. I sat in the lap of the earth and closed my eyes. The wolf howled and I could feel it in my throat.
- Write of water in each of its motions,
of matters worn away by water, to give
her what can't remain in the body
for movement alone.
Matters worn away by water take
her hands past desire
to make movement for you written

When her hands turn past desire—
turn to her on top of serrated
curves, the strap of hips, and what is happening
now, in front of you, is or isn't why
you turn to her in the place where motion consumes

in front of you, and this is or isn't why
we pretend we aren't the thing that doesn't move.
The contorted, ancestral, forbidden form
of the fall being always in contact with air
to pretend we aren't the thing that moves.
Can you recognize: her back is not the same as its touch?
Being always in contact with air,
the memory before this now hurts
so that her touch is not the same as backing away.

for stillness alone and home shall be
the space of a spasmodic, breaching arc,
the sound of feet on sand in her eyes.
Choking—perhaps tighter—home shall be the space
where the names of things are less clear and coil
between the sound of feet on sand in her eyes,
the way you look at a body and think: not me.
