first of all, **performance**, performance, performance (esp. on the UI level). this is so important for social media apps that aim to work at scale. also, if you want to claim a "first", I would like to see **ENS account verification** being natively supported by a social media application. no other social media app/frontend seem to take have taken initiative (yet). for anyone reading not aware, ENS is a decentralized web3 identity/username registry allowing you to use your identity across applications and blockchains. over 500k users have been using it over the past 5 years to **pseudonymously** to participate in Defi, DAOs and NFT collecting. due to it´s decentralized nature, I would claim it as a perfect fit for web3 social account verification. if we take the recent entrance of @vitalik.lens as an example, he added his #lens handle to a text file on his hompage to prove that the account is actually controlled by himself. however, if ENS account verification would have been enabled on lens frontends, users could have directly verified by his ENS name, that the @vitalik.lens handle is actually controlled by himself. small mockup below

**NFT Utilities - the Memester.lens case study by** @memester.lens **&** #LensAcademy In the previous post, we explained the concept of NFT Utilities. Here, we --go through a case study: how I (Memester.lens) created multiple communities on Lens and used NFT Utilities to deepen connections. I define 'community' as a set of individuals connected through an NFT relationship, via a 'Follow NFT' or 'Collect NFT'. For those who don't know Memester.lens, I have been on Lens since the early days, creating Web3 related memes. I then recently decided to launch two communities: 1. Memester Community (everyone can access it by 'fee collecting' this post for 2 WMATIC (https://lenster.xyz/posts/0x5805-0x039f ) 2. Memester Sponsors (everyone can access it by 'fee collecting' this post for 20 WMATIC (https://lenster.xyz/posts/0x5805-0x039e) Importantly, I stated upfront how proceeds will be used: to organize a Memester x Lens event. In addition, there is one community we all have from day 1: our Followers. So that gives me three communities. People's attention is limited, they only pay to join communities if it's 'worth it' (even if the paid amount is low in this case). NFT Utilities are a great way to show that we are serious about the communities we create, it allows content creators to reward collectors for joining the community, and to deepen the creator <> community relationship. I created multiple NFT utilities which members can access and plan to launch more: 1. Access to my monthly newsletter 2. Access to a token-gated Telegram chat 3. An exclusive Memester T-shirt 4. 1-1 calls with me 5. A party in a Memester penthouse I rented in the Metaverse 6. Omni-channel advertising for their projects I set different access levels for the three communities: - Memester Followers can access 1. - Memester Community can access 1, 2, 5 - Memester Sponsors can access all utilities One of the main complexities I faced was that most are not familiar with the concept of NFT Utilities yet, this is something quite new or previously loosely defined (i.e., not really labeled yet). Hence why i am pushing on the education front here . The second complexity is that the information gets lost in a social network that is purely feed based, so multiple people collected the NFTs and then join the community, but then missed on some utilities e.g., they missed the Metaverse event because they did not see my announcement in the feed. Having dedicated spaces for communities on Lens is critical in order to see more communities emerge and solidify (now the Memester Community has a chat on telegram, it's already a nice step but ultimately we want to bring that on Lens!) The final complexity is that not all utilities are relevant for everyone. For instance someone texted me to say that she was not interested in the T-shirt, and asked if she could send it to someone else. In the future this should become possible, as Utilities should become NFTs themselves that can be transferred/sold/bought to other folks - within or outside of the community, depending on how permissions are set. Or, closer to the status quo, build a collection or scenery in #pixelart or create #memes to tell stories. As we know, 2021 saw a surge in NFTs, with even 300+ large Web2 brands launching NFT collections - and this number keeps growing every day! A noticeable example here is Nike, who just announced their Web3 platform ‘.Swoosh’ in mid-November 2022. So far, NFTs have mostly been speculative assets, but now brands, communities, and other content creators are exploring what they can do with these NFTs after issuance. In other words, they explore post-mint experiences. Platforms like Tropee.com offer allow content creators, influencers, and brands to create ‘NFT utilities’ that NFT holders can claim. ‘NFT Utilities’ are gifts/benefits/perks that can be created by content creators and distributed to their communities (i.e. NFT holders) e.g., Nike can issue a collection of 10K NFTs and then decide that all NFT holders will have access to a 10% discount on NIKE products, invite them to the annual NIKE Summit, or to co-create new shoes. While some platforms already have a library of NFT Utilities (cf. illustration below), it is still early days and content creators will come up with many new types of utilities for their communities. **Make the most with** @orbapp.lens **by** @timjeffries.lens **&** #LensAcademy Hey Lens Frens, today we will help you make the most of the mobile app ORB, a beautifully made, decentralised social media app for iOS and Android (https://orb.ac/). It's currently in beta but if you ask the right people you'll likely be able to get your hands on an invite. 😉 When the app starts up you'll get some friendly welcome screens and after swiping through those you'll land on the feed page. This isn't customised to you yet as you need to log in so hit that little silhouette icon in the top right. You need MetaMask or Rainbow wallet configured on your mobile device to connect your wallet. Once you've connected your wallet you're able to "Login with Lens" and the real fun begins. 🥳 In the top right now you should see your Lens PFP, click that and let's explore the menu. **Profile** will take you to your profile which is likely already somewhat configured if you've set up lensfrens.xyz or perhaps lenster.xyz. You can edit your profile from there and that's also the second item in the menu. **Edit Profile** takes you to a screen with a bunch of options unique to ORB. Here you can add **Project, Skills, Experience and Education.** These are all ways for you to add to your profile and share on chain credentials in the form of NFT or POAP for your contacts to explore. You can also edit your lens profile from this screen by tapping the Edit button to the right of your username. These changes will be reflected across the Lens Protocol ecosystem. **Rate App** just takes you to the app store so you can show them some love. **Settings** strangely doesn't actually hold any settings, just links off to About and Policy information. You can delete your account here but if you do that then you're sadly NGMI. Now you're up and running on ORB you can start enjoying the excellent UX and posting, commenting, liking and mirroring on Lens. The navigation bar at the bottom contains 4 sections. From left to right they are: **Home** - your feed of posts, mirrors and likes. **Search** - this enables you to search for profiles or content in posts. **Learn** - something unique to ORB where you can enrol in short courses and receive an NFT to certify your completion. **Notifications** - here your new follows, likes, comments and mirrors are reported. A couple of points to note: **•** ORB doesn't do collects or follows where the author has set a fee so you'll get an error if you try and perform those actions from within ORB. **•** ORB doesn't have DMs yet All up ORB is an excellent way to use Lens Protocol on mobile.
