- And since I’m on the topic of moving faders… here’s a Neve 80-series console with custom-built flying faders designed by George Massenburg Labs.
This large-format analog console was the centrepiece in Studio A at Revolution Recording, where I used to work. Consoles like this weren’t built with fader automation - (I’m not sure it even existed in the 1970s)! So they had to have the console modified.
The flying faders were rarely used, unless our Chief Engineer made the request. It happened that I was working at the studio the day he made the call. I remember the night I got these faders moving pretty clearly…
It was a slow day, and I was just about to go home when the phone rang. “Get the old eMac out of the machine room and see if you can boot up the GML software. We just booked a session and I want to use automation on the Neve console tomorrow” said my boss.😵
Yes, that’s right. It was a bright blue, all-in-one, CRT screen eMac from 2005, running Apple OS 9. Most of the time it sat in the back of the machine room collecting dust, doing much of nothing. I often wondered what that eMac was for… Well, I soon found out.
After accepting I wouldn’t be going home any time soon, I pulled the old eMac out and got to work. The computer begrudgingly booted up, and I was greeted by its iconic, blue cubist “two face” logo (which is still the Finder icon and suspected to have been inspired by Pablo Picasso). The desktop appeared and sprung forth system menus in low-res Charcoal typeface, bright blue scroll bars, and soooo many square edges… anyways, I digress.
The faders were connected by a series of thin spiderweb-like cables that terminated in the machine room on these metallic interfaces that took up an entire 8-foot equipment rack. Each of these interfaces daisy-chained into a main controller that contained an archaic digital converter for the system which (thankfully) connected via USB. Otherwise, I felt like those guys you see in pictures wearing lab coats and working on early computers so big they took up an entire room.
After all the connections were made, and the eMac was purring (more like moaning), it was time to load the GML software. Easy enough right?! Wrong. Unfortunately, software developed in 2002 wasn’t exactly optimized for user experience… So, I cracked open the 181 page hard copy user manual and started to read.
It was probably a good four hours later when got through the first half of the manual, and took this video. 🫠 Sucess! Even though my brain was fried, I was pretty stoked to get this ancient system up and running. But I still had a ton of work to do to get ready for the session. Studio A was a big room, and we were recording live off the floor. So, it was time to take out the microphones, place all the acoustic baffles, set up headphone monitors, talkback mics, Persian rugs, and vibey lamps… Oh, and I almost forgot - the 24-track 2-inch reel-to-reel tape machine. But I’ll save that story for another day.
Gosh, I miss the studio days.

- 📌Binance Allegedly Commingled Customer Funds and Company Revenue.
🔸 Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange and many times larger than FTX before its collapse mixed customer funds with company revenue, violating U.S. financial regulations.
🟠Commingling occurred frequently at Silvergate Bank, with $20 million from a corporate account mixed with $15 million from a customer account.
🔸 Binance converted money into BUSD tokens to potentially evade taxes and account freezes.

- Why is God a lobster?
God is a lobster, a double articulation relative to substance and form, of imposition and actualization. Substances are formed matters, i.e. territories. The forms are forms of codification and decodification, that is to say, reterritorialization and deterritorialization.
At bottom, "god is a lobster" is a formula for creativity coined by Deleuze and Guattari, the purpose of thought is to be inventive, to create new concepts, analogies or forms of understanding. It applies to art, science and everything you can think of.
Placing yourself within a territory, saying I am this or that, is not necessarily bad (at least you will be able to laugh at the same memes with your peers), but staying there prevents you from developing your creative potential, I even dare to say that staying too territorialized is equivalent to madness in a negative sense, remember that the only eternal thing is change and always doing the same thing expecting different results is not coincidentally one of its definitions.
Deleuze and Guattari propose us to be nomads, to cross the limits constantly, not too fast and aggressive to fall into the void and self-destruct, but enough to treat yourself as a work of art in constant creation, the Nietzschean superman-child that recreates the world. Nietzsche claims that the organism seeks power, expansion, happiness is only a consequence of this, Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is constantly expanding (and by rule of three so is our consciousness) and Jung discovered the same thing about the unconscious.
It is easier to insert ourselves into pre-existing forms because this saves us the arduous task of having to create ourselves, to say I am this or that based on a few youtube videos, the psychological disorder in fashion or some Netflix series that made us awaken our sense of revelation, is to let our mental energy territorialize in the symbols that the system serves us on a platter for us to identify ourselves, it is to let ourselves be dragged by inertia.
To some extent this is inevitable when we come into the world and we are impressionable little ones trying to enter the language, but there is a reason why the myth of rebirth is present in all religions, this is an inevitable process of development and expansion of being, and also the true meaning of the concept of deconstruction coined by Derrida, disassemble the parts to rebuild them in a more current, functional, beautiful or perfect way, but not that this deconstruction is no longer given by an Other (this is the trap desertas of this concept today), if not discover it through the game. To navigate in the world of language we have to find those signifiers that signify us, but to treat them as a child treats his toys even when he throws them out of the window.
So why is god a lobster? Because this double articulation between substance and form, or between essence and matter is also the structure of the divine, God is the totality of real, Espinoza would say.
Collect this post to be a son of the lobster god, be part of this new religion.
