最近奥林匹斯又要举行盛大的宴会了，这对众神来说这可是非常重要的一件事，因为平时各司其职的他们其实都很忙碌，唯有借着这样的机会才能够欢聚一堂、饮酒作乐。
从前的古希腊有一种风俗，不论是人还是神，凡是待在闺中的女儿，都必须在宴会时担任倒酒的工作。当父母宴客时，她就必须拿着水壶酒瓶在饭桌旁为父母及客人斟酒倒水，以表示尊重父母、欢迎客人。
所以既然是由宙斯所主办的宴会，这个工作当然就得由他的女儿来担任，过去这项职务都是由青春女神海贝，以主人家的少女身份提着玉瓶，在宴桌上不断为众神添加琼浆玉露，或倒出澄净的仙水给众神洗手。
海贝是宙斯和妹妹希乐所生的女儿，她的长相甜美、声音悦耳、动作轻快优雅，从来不会将酒倒洒了、也不会让众神无酒可喝，所以一直是宙斯最喜爱的倒酒人选。可是女儿大了总要嫁人，后来她被母亲希乐许配给大英雄海格利斯，从此之后，倒酒的职务便一直悬缺着。
“找不到合适的人来倒酒，宴会的气氛就会不够热烈，众神也会玩得不够开心。”身为主人的宙斯对此伤透了脑筋。
“海贝已经出嫁，到底要找谁好呢?”宙斯向众神询问。 “听说位于特洛伊的加尼美迪斯王子，是个唇红齿白的美男子，他的肌肤洁白如雪、头发灿烂如黄金，全身散发出迷人的光彩，令许多的少女为之倾倒。”有人提出了如此的建议。 “果真如此吗?那我可得去瞧瞧才行。”宙斯二话不说，立刻启程到了特洛伊
加尼美迪斯是特洛伊国王最疼爱的王子，这天他奉父亲的命令到意笛山上看守羊群，正好给了宙斯一个有机可乘的机会。 虽然加尼美迪斯只穿上简单的牧童服装，可是他那高雅的气质、俊美的脸庞、修长的身形，让宙斯只看一眼就十分满意。
“好漂亮的少年，如果能够让他来担任倒酒的角色，相信一定会替我的宴会增色不少!”喜爱美丽事物的天帝宙斯，对加尼美迪斯是百分之两百的满意。
宙斯决定来个先斩后奏。他变成一只大老鹰，从天空中慢慢地飞下来，停在加尼美迪斯的面前。一开始加尼美迪斯被吓了一跳，不过渐渐地他发现这只大鹰十分温驯，而且羽毛光泽艳丽、模样非常可爱，一时失去戒心，就在鹰背上轻抚一下，还坐了上去。一等到加尼美迪斯坐稳之后，宙斯便展翅高飞，头也不回地直冲云霄。
“放我下来，救命啊～～” ．“你在干什么，快下去～～” 不顾加尼美迪斯的叫喊，宙斯一股做气飞到了奥林匹斯的神殿，也恢复了原本的面目。 “加尼美迪斯，不要害怕，我是天帝宙斯，这次把你抓来，是希望你能够担任我宴会中的倒酒任务。”宙斯和蔼地说明。看到天地间最伟大的天神宙斯，加尼美迪斯明白，就算他想拒绝，也无法成功的。
“我……明白了……”加尼美迪斯无奈地接下这个职务。就这样。拜着加尼美迪斯所赐，宙斯的宴会终于如期地顺利举行，而且当众神看到俊美的加尼美迪斯时，一声声的赞叹更是不绝于耳。 “好可爱的少年啊!” “由他来倒酒，滋味更香醇了!” 众神对加尼美迪斯的服侍都感到非常满意，所以对他相当友善及客气，这也让加尼美迪斯逐渐忘却被大鹰掳来的不愉快心情，很快就融入了天界的生活。
宙斯的妻子女神赫拉是个嫉妒成性的女子，她看在眼里，怒在心头，她不仅嫉妒宙斯看他时那样的眼神，更嫉妒伊有着她都没有的美丽光华。恼羞成怒之下，将伊变成了一只透明的水瓶，要他永生永世为宙斯倒水。
这就是水瓶座的由来
