With the existing zk performance with Zk Era not sure why there is anymore need for Optimistic rollups for DeFi

Exactly! Op rollup has the first movers advantage but no way close to providing the privacy and security of Zk Rollup.
Both will coexist for at least 3 years imo, I wouldn't be surprised if Optimistic rollups are still used as a "legacy system"
Then how is Base more used than zkSync Era?
So, zk is endgame.
I think the ZKs aren't really production ready yet. They are very complex and there are very few truly competent people. The complexity of the codebase also increases significantly (obviously something like SP1/RISC0 can help, but the underlying technology is not yet well battle tested imho).
I just don’t know where the apps are on ZK Sync. You can find better rates on Linea right now.
