Fully agree this is a great approach. Also helps a lot understanding the user needs and dev experience when you build a version of the app/product on your protocol. Couple of examples top of mind: 1/ Arcadia Finance is building a Lending product on top of their Vault protocol 2/ Lens building Lensfrens on top of Lens protocol 3/ Paraswap & 1inch building Wallets on top of their DEX aggregator protocol
Makes totally sense, when you are building a protocol you want to build few key apps to demonstrate the use-cases and the features while improving the protocol. I actually think the way to build is ecosystem first: build the protocol, few apps and help the community to build rest of the apps. Ecosystem feedback loop is the flywheel
