Yes, blockchains are not required and I stress that actually. Star Wars doesn't need to be onchain. It's easy to prove who owns Star Wars and what that IP

- Whats interesting to me is how we could create on-chain commecial righta without relying on the IP model. I.e. if you own an NFT regardless of the IP or even when the IP is CC0 we can create ways to enable value share even to compliment ideas that let to the creation of the work
- Ryan, I appreciate the time you took to articulate your thoughts in such detail. However, I see several flaws in your hypothesis that I think are worth discussing:
1. **Intellectual Property Ownership**:
I understand the parallel you're trying to draw between blockchain-based content ownership and traditional IP ownership, like Star Wars. However, I believe the comparison falls short. Star Wars GIFs or merchandise don't fundamentally alter the content of Star Wars. Yet, when we're talking about generative AI, it can take original content and transform it significantly. It's not the same ballpark.
2. **Public Data Ownership**:
You suggest that having data on a public blockchain offers more control to the original owner. But once data is on a public blockchain, it's out there for everyone, and it's near impossible to delete or restrict access to it. If you can't do that, do you really own it? In this case, I'd argue that the public, not the individual, owns it and you also lose even more control over it when you train an AI model on it that it's not owned by you.
3. **Value Attribution**:
The notion that the original data owner would capture the most value from content created by AI using their data is not entirely accurate. Value attribution isn't just about data source, it's also about the innovative use of that data. Blockchain can confirm the origin, but it doesn't ensure that the content creator will necessarily gain the most from others' innovations using their data.
4. **Data Usage**:
The idea of encouraging artists to make their data available for AI remixing is indeed exciting. However, you must be aware of potential pitfalls like data misuse, plagiarism, and misattribution.
Also regarding 'Collectors' and 'Supporters', these aren't entirely new concepts either. Platforms like Patreon or YouTube memberships allow audiences to financially support creators in a similar way. What blockchain technology offers, and I agree with you here, is a new level of transparency and automation to these transactions. The potential is indeed exciting and opens up new opportunities.
